“Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we,” Bush said. “They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.” -- George W Bush
"This is an impressive crowd - the haves and the have-mores, some people call you the elites; I call you my base." -- George W Bush
So why isn't Bush calling upon his "Base" to step up, do the right thing, remember all those sweetheart tax breaks he gave them-- and open up their purses, checkbooks and wallets? Since they're all so freedom-loving and patriotic, I'm sure they'd be delighted to step in and help out. After all they certainly understand the principles of "trickle down" economics. Here's a perfect opportunity to put their money where their mouth is.
I reckon now they might be wishing they hadn't sent quite so many jobs oversees... or shut down all those factories... or fed us so much bullshit.
"You can fool all of the people some of the time, and you can fool some of the people all of the time. But you can't fool all of the people all of the time." -- Abraham Lincoln
Too bad for the Bushians and fat-cat right wingers... the American people know the difference between "Golden Parachutes" and "Golden Showers".
This bill affects the whole world, but if Nancy Pelosi opens her mouth and says something Nancy Pelosi-ish, Pelosi Derangement Syndrome (PDS) causes those afflicted to lose the capacity to know right from wrong for up to 8 hours.
Well our politicians in Washington have done it again! Thank you Nancy Pelosi for your partisan politics. We all know we are in a mess, and this did not just happen overnight. There is certainly enough blame to be spread about and we as Americans know this. You should have shown leadership in this time of crisis, but instead you had to resort to the petty political blame game. We as taxpayers know this will cost, none of us like it, but we want it fixed as quickly and soundly as possible.
You had strong bipartisan support for this plan but your ego got in the way, and the whole thing blew up in your face! You owe America an apology. After that apology you should resign your position as Speaker of the House, since you clearly demonstrated today that you cannot be counted on to be a leader during a time of crisis.
Today's finger-pointing by Republicans is reminiscent of the 1995 budget crisis, when the GOP shut down the federal government over a perceived slight by President Clinton.
Do you remember what happened then?
The Republicans whined and blamed, and Americans realized quickly that they were to blame.
Democrats need to make sure they handle today's aftermath with as much skill as Bill Clinton handled the 1995 crisis.
The only hope for our economy is a Democratic administration coupled with a Democratic super-majority in Congress.
We've had far too much of the borrow-and-spend Reagan Republicans.
It would be nice if this bill was the death nell for Pelosi's reign as Speaker of the House - in fact it would be nice to see her defeated for her very seat in the House. We need tough new Democratic leadership in Congress, both houses. The past 22 months have been a farce, with the Democratic "leadership" always bemoaning their impotence because their lack of a veto-proof majority in the Senate. But, they have been more of a rubber stamp for Bush than the Republicans who preceeded them. Funny, how the Republicans manage to get their way whether in majority or minority....
It had nothing to do with her speech. The candy-ass House Republicans were playing chicken with the Democrats. It's been made abundantly clear for days that this was to be a bipartisan bill and the House Republicans thought they could get away with voting no.
Now the market is in free fall and no one knows where this is headed.
Tainted: I can't believe this Pelosi person. What unblievable rethoric when trying to win bi-partisan approval of what will certainly go down as a historic House vote.
She needs some basic training.
Unbelievable.
Tainted: All lawmakers who put re-election BEFORE country
Sainted: No one today!
What the hell are we going to do??
since she, just like my own congressperson, chris murphy of CT-5th , both voted in favor of this; the only thing I can assume is this. in her speech, she literally showed that women can have " balls" and let the republicans know that this was mostly their fault. it was they, the then majority; whom "fillibustered" bills until bill clinton would sign them when this deregulation was passed by him! truthfully, not having any stake financially in anything, no assets besides a 1996 honda accord; all I can hope for is that it ruins the chances of a certain " maverick" repug-nican, " common street rat", whom thinks he will be #44 president!
Pelosi should have made that speech after the vote. Not only did she pissed off Republicans but she pissed off 40% of Dems that are not left wing socialist. She just had to grand stand. I'm not some partisan hack. Dems are plenty dirty with this crisis because they blocked every attempt to regulate Fannie and Freddie and encourage them to go deeper into sub-prime lending with the Community Reinvestment Act. Pelosi should have just STFU!!!
Country needs to vote everybody out of office.
Never have I witnessed such a Republican-hater as this woman. She smiles as she cuts them off at their knees and innocently blames them for it. By the way, I'm a Democrat. Every American's future is put at stake while she gloats about responsibility. Yes, it's everyone's fault that ever lent or borrowed money, and management that ran the financial institutions into the ground or the government that overseen the financial institutions. But now we need to fix it before we crash and burn...if we haven't already. 21st Century Depression...here we come like it or not.
Folks, the Speaker's remarks were not needed. Remember the Democratic Party had the votes to pass this the whole time. They decided to ask the Republicans to vote so that if it went sour, they would not have to take the fall based on their control of the House. Again, the Dems could have passed this without the Republicans. Ask yourself this, “Did some 94 Democrats actually vote this bill down?” “Along with Republicans?”
