Conservative columnist tells Palin: "Bow out"

A former supporter of Sarah Palin's has come around after watching her recently; Kathleen Parker now says Palin is "out of her league."

The letters thread is now closed.

Oh right -- Gotta get some Huggies

Palin already put her family first -- as in first runner-up. Her political aspirations were to be Miss Vice President. And nice to see Parker finally recognize what astute Salon posters started seeing on day one.

That's gotta hurt.

Gov. Palin has become a lose/lose for the McCain campaign. Does it hurt the campaign more to keep her on, or to replace her?

(And sure, Biden goofs up sometimes. But there's still a sense that he knows what he's talking about, even when his mouth outruns his brain.)

Friday, September 26, 2008 11:03 AM

Thank God!

Finally someone is telling the truth! Please America! Wake Up!

Friday, September 26, 2008 11:03 AM

Sure, it's going to happen

And then the media is going to do nothing for an entire week but speculate about McCain's next choice for VP, followed by another week of covering some new unknown. It's like popping another piece of gum to refresh the flavor. He only needs to make the switch a week before the election, and then ride the wave of swooning attention into the White House on November 4.

you don't need a weatherman...

Count me in the crowd that has believed all along that Palin is a front, propped up to calm down the fundies and pull a few ladies in.

McCain can say, "See? I tried."

Enter the cavalry.

Joe Lieberman, the one McMaverick wanted all along.

She can't quit.

Pailn excites the Christofascist base. McCain doesn't excite anybody. And even if she does quit, McCains executive dscision making is still called into question for the same reason.

But none of this matters. McCain was dead in the water as soon as he suspended his campaign to airdrop into Washington and wreck the bailout deal. Not matter how that turns out, he's gonna get blamed. This election is over.

Vote for Palin and get another Cheney as VP after McCain leaves

After President McCain leaves office for health reasons and Sarah Palin becomes President who will the Republican backers pick for her new VP? Who can run the new puppet president?

(bonus points for PNAC alumni)

Dick Cheney? Jeb Bush?

Does anyone think the enough Democrats would vote to confirm Jeb that he could get in? After all Congress *did* approve John Ashcroft, Albert Gonzales, John Roberts, and Samuel Alito.

Welcome...

Palin!

Some of my friends felt pity at the Couric interview with Palin. I say let's have some more fun with Palin being on the republican ticket? By now everyone(except maybe McCain) knows her selection was a farce.

Friday, September 26, 2008 11:10 AM

The fact that he picked her.

Speaks volumes about his ineptitude.

"Only Palin can save McCain,"

If he falls down and cries "Help me I've fallen and I can't get up" .

The difference between Palin and Biden

I'm sure I hardly need point this out, but there is a big difference between Palin and Biden--namely, that Biden can make all the gaffes he wants, he still has a defensible record on things like women's rights and international relations. Palin's gaffes, on the other hand, are just as risible as her record.

Country First

As a Democrat, I'd prefer that Palin stay in the race and self-destruct before our eyes, bringing down the whole ticket with her. But as an American, I have to agree with the normally odious Parker: Sarah, dear, please put Country First and step down. A President Palin will destroy the United States of America. Breathtaking incompetence combined with the usual Repuglican proud and willful ignorance, with a generous topping of evangelical zeal, will destroy our country and our Constitution.

And given McCain's visibly precipitous decline in health, a Palin Presidency would be all too likely, all too soon.

If she's going to be sacked

It's got to be before the VP debate, before she's made mincemeat of. After that, it won't matter who fills in--it will be quite obvious to EVERYONE that the GOP screwed the pooch.

Friday, September 26, 2008 11:16 AM

Betcha Romney's In by Next Week

See why they're delaying the debates? They want to be able to switch their VP in time to face Biden. And, oh yes, how bold and decisive McCain will look for doing it.

@ IaintBacchus

Sweet Jeebus, don't say that! It ain't over until Diebold ... excuse me, Premier Election Solutions finishes miscounting the votes.

@Katya0046

No, Palin HAS no record. That's the thing. She's a small town mayor become governor of a state that's smaller than the city I was born in. That, plus being a mom and beauty pageant contestant, are her only qualifications. Joltin' Joe Biden may get his adrenaline pumping and say some wack shit, but he has 35 years in Congress to draw on. The man knows governance.

What this comes down to is that the VP candidate's main job is to appear potentially presidential. Biden, for all his foot-in-mouth disease, appears presidential via the gravitas of his age and his long Senate experience and record. Is there anyone who doesn't own the entire Left Behind series of novels who still thinks Georgia Bush is REMOTELY presidential?

Dare I remind everyone that "Sarah Palin" rearranged is "nasal harpi"? I rest my case.

When I read Parker's column this morning on the train to work

I had to read it three times to make sure I was understanding her correctly. Was I really reading that Parker was urging Palin to drop out? Did an alien sieze Parker, clone her, and put "her" back on earth with a brain?

Friday, September 26, 2008 11:23 AM

"Conservative columnist"?

Is that the euphemistic name given these days to racists?

The Problem for McCain

At least in this case... well, if Palin steps down, you pretty much can kiss the election goodbye for him.

Not that I think that's a bad thing, mind you. But he might as well just throw in the towel at that point. Women supporters will drop off, and evangelicals will probably just stay home. If he nominates Romney or Lieberman, the evangelicals will definitely stay home.

Frankly, unless Obama really screws up the debates (and I don't think he will), it should be pretty safe for him.

Of course, this could also be a wacky rope-a-dope by McCain where he suddenly shows up looking sharp and focused for the debate and catches Obama off guard... but I doubt it.

Too late Kathleen

Sarah goes into meltdown and you think you're going to change moose in midstream and everything will be hunky dory?

You think the mocking and ridicule over this lame pick by McSame is bad now? Go ahead, throw Caribou Barbie under the snowmobile. The mock&ridicule fest for McBadjudgement will drown out everything else.

And Holy JoMo would be an excellent replacement for McMaverick. Trust me.
