"And I think that it is going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once."
Obama, I f**king love you, man. Keep it up.
The entire McSame campaign should be dismissed.

Fuck yeah!
"With respect to the debates, it's my belief that this is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who, in approximately 40 days ..."
Yes, we know that the new president won't be sworn in until January 20th. But it's not like he's going on vacation from November 5th until then, either.
"... will be responsible for dealing with this mess. And I think that it is going to be part of the president's job to deal with more than one thing at once," Obama said.
Yup.
Exactly the right response.
won't be able to use all the cute things I've been practicing if we work on the financial crisis."
I notice obama couldn't be a Senator and run for President at the same time. Hell, he wasn't a Senator when that was all he had to do.
He's a coward. He cares more about trying to win the election than helping the country.
I was wondering how the Obama campaign and the Democratic party would deal with this obvious stalling tactic. This response is great. It succinctly shatters McCain's entire premise, by speaking the plain truth: there's no need for Obama and McCain to cancel their debate and gallop into Washington.
This also shows McCain as the candidate who's overreacting to a crisis, and Obama as the candidate who's calm and measured and keeping things in order.
I believe and hope that, in this statement, we're seeing the next president of the USA.
McCain tried to counter Obama's offer of a joint statement about the state of the economy by sandbagging Obama by proposing to suspend the campaign and the debate for Friday. Talk about playing politics by claiming you're not playing politics, especially when the new polls out show McCain down by 9 points. The problem lies within the Republican party itself - they are at odds about the bailout and McCain has to step in and wants Obama to go along with this charade. Obama looks presidential, McCain does not. Bring on the debates Friday night as scheduled. McCain needs to learn how to walk and chew gum at the same time.
No one has missed more votes than McCain. Obama's refusing to fall for Grandpa's desperate political gambit.
On the same day that he and his campaign manager are caught out in a bald-faced Lie about his recent ties to Fannie Mae, this Debate switch has provided a nice distraction, yes?
he should send in Palin to take his place. after all, she said she's ready on Day 1 to take over.
"I can multi-task and he can't."
Who would you rather have in a crisis? Someone who is steady or someone who panics when the poll numbers start dipping?
Actually, in spite of my subject line, I agree with Tiberius. A vlogger at Democracy Yesterday! has already posted something to Youtube related to this.

simultaneously work on the proposed legislation to clean up the republican's deregulation mess, and battle nuclear seals armed with laser beams.
What would he do if, as president (shudder!) he finds the going a little rough? A crisis in the land? Call for a time-out? Oh, yeah...that's just what we need!
and rub your belly at the same time. Come on McCain, try it!
Not to be too terribly crass, but is the McCain campaign starting to remind someone of defibrillation? It seems like every time the campaign starts to slip in the polls, McCain does something completely radical to try to resuscitate his popularity. Obama taking off in the polls? SARAH PALIN!!! "The Palin Effect" wearing off? CALL OFF THE DEBATES!!!
Seems to me the candidates should be able to help with this legislation and debate at the same time. There are several hundred other legislators in DC, after all.
With the finanical crisis in full swing, St. McCain knows he will be asked questions about his past votes and support of deregulation, as well as his campaign advisors Phil Gramm and Rick Davis. So, to avoid looking like a fool on national television, St. McCain is suspending his campaign.
You just know he would be one of those compulsively knee-jerk responders who never waits to read the entire email, much less consider a response carefully, before pushing the SEND button.
What I particularly love about Obama's response is that he carefully resists the urge to pounce. Instead, he considers his moves very carefully and skillfully. This is a nearly perfect response. It could have only been better if he had added "See ya' Friday John."
Once again, in a moment of opportunism, the McCain campaign attempts to change events to suit their purposes.
At their convention, suspending the schedule so John McCain could appear presidential by showing up where the hurricanes would cause damage.... and also avoiding a larger more public appearance by George Bush during his convention......
Now, he's not prepared for the debates, and also wants to capitalize on the current financial mess by seeming to "care" more about the problem by just showing up.
Uh... just show up to face your opponent, and stand up to
the questions, instead of running away!
He demanded that Obama do three HUGE things: suspend the campaign, delay the debates, and return to DC to help with negotiations.
There was no way and no how Obama would agree to all three of those things as that would just lose the election for him. Obama called McCain's bluff (wisely).
Now it's McCain's turn: what can he do? He just painted himself into a box. He can double down by not showing up at the Friday debate but that'll just make him look like an idiot and give Obama 2 hours to talk about what he's doing -- in detail -- to help in this crisis.
