Smart

Smart strategy. Turn Biden and the 527s loose along with the media to attack McCain and Palin while he goes positive in the runup to the debates. McLame? Those are called "specific ideas for things we can do to solve problems."

I'm sure we'll get the usual "Too weak" and "Only intelligent voters, which Americans aren't, will care about this." Bullshit. First of all, not all Americans are idiots, despite what some who comment at Salon have convinced themselves to be true. Second, everyone cares about the economy, and with McLame's unbelievably inane comments about it, this is the perfect time for Obama to position himself as the man with answers, not smears.

In two weeks, Obama will be firmly back in the lead nationally and in the states he needs to win. The meme is spreading that McCain is a sleazebag liar who has no clue on the economy, and that Palin is a dangerous Georgia Bush who's hiding her past up in Alaska. The debates will be nails in the coffin.

Good spot

Good for Obama. I doubt McCain could even talk that long about anything of importance. Although I couldn't help but notice the lapel pin Obama's sporting. Just saying....

I like it

It's different, it's good, and it speaks to the heart of the matter.

Unfortunately, in regards to the debates... what guarantee do you think that issues will actually be discussed in the debates? Remember the time in the Democratic primary debates devoted to Jeremiah Wright and sniper fire in Bosnia?

I'd like to be optimistic. I really would. But I've seen too much garbage in past elections to be that way anymore.

Timing is Perfect

Coming after yesterday's financial disaster. I think a lot of people got pretty shook up watching these huge companies fail (and then get bailed out by us taxpayers).

If anyone has the slightest concern about the state and fragility of our economy, they will listen to this ad in its entirety.

Alan Keyes once said...

People who speak well are smarter than the average person.

Compare Obama to McCain and Palin.

Good spots

Good ads that lay out the field for the debates.

When it comes to the "debates" Obama needs to play dirty and put McCain on the spot, rile him up, and repeatedly hammer home the themes from this ad.

It is a good start (finally).

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 06:59 AM

His plan...

is a list of maybes backed by an empty suit. Americans are smart enough to see past that.

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 06:59 AM

I'm gonna say...

I like it.

The long format gives heft to what he's talking about, presents him as an expert.

People will say it's too long, and the American People can't sit still for two minutes, but they will be wrong.

Underestimating the intelegence of the American People is what has hurt Democrats the most over the past few decades. Worrying about style and not substance.

This ad is substance, and that's what Obama needs.

People sometimes look at the style of Kennedy, Clinton, even Regan, and think that's what people want. They like that, it's true, but only when it's the wraping for strong and new ideas.

Obama has style to spare, he doesn't need to show people more style. What he needs is substance and that's what we're getting!

I suppose it would be negative to point out that the GOP will oppose everything?

I really hope the Democrats in the House and Senate make enough gains to make sure President Obama can actually do those things. You can count on the Republicans to oppose every one of the changes mentioned.

Maybe the Democratic party can run some ads pointing that out.

How About

A two minute ad explaining why he didn't pick Hillary.

@tiberious

Washington Post is now reporting that "McCain embraces reulation".

Typical Left

Talk about how bad the economy is, then get on your jet to go hang out with Barbara Streisand and the Hollywood elite. Way to show you're down there in the trenches when we just footed the bill for an $85 billion bailout of yet another collapsing company.

How about telling us why the Pelosi house is trying put a sham off-shore drilling bill out there to pretend their doing something.

Let's see if the left-wing media covers that one.

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 07:15 AM

@tiberius

What is this 'empty suit' stuff you are babbling about? That is exactly the stuff that is meaningless. You don't hear us going after the 'brain dead with the bobble headed wife' or 'emply snowsuit' and expect it to suffice do you?

GIve me the guy who knows the issues inside and out over the old man and his mean spirited moose hunting side kick any day of the week.

Why in the world would anyone vote for McPain? McCain has a pretty good chance of not making it four years. His father died at 70, and he himself has sick cancer, who knows what else. His running mate isn't allowed to talk to media without a week of prep, and then she flubs it. She has been giving the same speech over and over and over. It was ugly the first time, and it is sounding like she is really stupid now and can't think of a thing to say.

McPain has reached their peak, I hope. Maybe Americans will realize we want the smart one in troubled times. The one who is remaining calm, cautious and optimistic. Maybe they will want his running mate who knows foreign policy inside out over the hockey mom when it comes to facing world problems.

Otherwise, we are screwed. Really, really screwed.

great ad!

Two minutes never went by so fast. This is excellent. It should make people who might have been leaning toward McCain take Obama more seriously at the very least, and provoke interest in his real policy proposals.

I don't think we can let go of the more straight ahead attacks, however. I think Obama's speech in Golden Colorado should be played over and over; Americans need to hear him explain how it is unrealistic to expect that McCain will suddenly change his stripes and solve the economic problems created by his lobbyist friends and his long held beliefs in the "free market." You have to be willing to fight for change, and his speech in Colorado was Obama in fighting mode, and it looks good!
