The American people have made it clear that they don't care about the lawlessness of the Bush administration and if that didn't bother them then this won't either. As we slide into Facism all the American people care about is whether or not their favorite American Idol (replace idol with candidate)prevails. Egged on by the Repubs America has become a country of cowardly fools.
but entirely within character (what we know of it). This could be a big deal. I think we do care.
The faux Christian Americans truly don't care. Their new Messiah in feminine form is here. Don't look behind the curtain. Don't give a damn about her ethics. She hunts! She kills wolves! She (cough!) hates the good ole boys! She is against community organizers, AKA black people!
If America elects this person and her old geezer running mate who is suddenly PRO regulation of the free markets, then we get the government we deserve.
God, if you exist, then the rest of us may even start praying, after we hurl. Really.

Just the more or less half of the half who are eligible to vote... the ones who vote Republican.
Big Daddy's there looking after her mendacity.
Personally i find this rather surprising (in an unsurprising kind of way). For if Palin is innocent and has nothing to hide then obviously an investigation would be welcome to clear her. Instead Steve Schmidt and his lads have opted to try to stifle the truth from ever being found out, hence thickening the cloud of suspicion that already hangs over Palin. I wonder if they actually thought this one through... oh yeah i forgot this Rove-style politics. The more one sees of her, the more she seems a perfect predecessor to Cheney. Man am i glad to be a Canadian!!! (though you folks are still scaring the hell out of me!)
"Will not cooperate." Obviously something to hide? This appears to be a tempest in a teapot, but she is treating it like Watergate. If she cannot even clear up this little flap, she cannot deal with real national and international problems.
If she were smart, she would go to Alaska, and testify forcefully in public, then give a scathing statement to the press, then head out on the campaign trail in the lower 48. Even if she is guilty of something, it is a small thing, and this would be the right course of action.
Instead, she hides behind lawyers and GOP hacks, and gives no comment. Apparently, she likes to think she is sort of like Nixon, and she behaves a little bit like John Gotti, but she is just a small-timer.
Open up your heart and let the sun shine in.
Those darn old boy partisan democrats and republicans just want to stop this fire haired reformer from brining that Wasilla Magic to Washington.
What one really finds funny is the notion that somehow, being obstructionist will make the story go away?
You Palin probably was within her rights to fire the guy, and her petty vindictivness against her ex brother in law would probably have blown over before November.
These actions just keep this story in the papers for another couple weeks, and futher the "what's she hiding?" story.
Now, perhaps in focusing attention on Palin, that keeps the heat off McCain and perhaps that is the strategy, but I have to think that's not a good plan long term.
Are we sure McCain isn't an Obama supporter?
assuming you are correct and that half of Americans are unfazed by Bush's lawlessness, there is a difference at least in many peoples minds with the sacraficing of ideals and civil liberties in the name of security, and attempting to punish people because they have "wronged" your family.
One is a perhaps nobel criminality the other is petty.
So, yes, Americans likely wouldn't have cared about this issue if it were allowed to just naturally work it's way through, but because Ms. Palin and Mr. McCain are making a federal case out of this (or at least shortly will) then people will have to take notice and wonder what all the fuss is about.
If you can't answer some questions not under oath, and not under the threat of a subpeona, then you're maybe not the reformer you claim to be.
if they are working this hard to cover it up.
As the Anchorage Daily News points out (http://www.adn.com/politics/story/463340.html), after firing Monegan, she offered him "a different job, as executive director of the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. He turned it down."
This investigation was started months ago by a Republican legislature. Unanimously. But now, it's "tainted." What happened between then and now? Oh, that's right, Palin became McCain's running mate! So, I guess the Obama campaign has ESP and manage to corrupt that Republican legislature even before she was the nominee. How clever!
Oh right, he didn't want to use his influence to squash the investigation. The initial investigation found no evidence of wrongdoing but the Republicans insisted so Janet Reno appointed a special prosecutor. That wasn't finding any evidence of illegality so the GOP judges fired that investigator and hired Kenneth Starr.
Starr was acceptable because, according to the Republicans who selected him, "impartiality" only means the investigator isn't partial in a way that's favorable to the person being investigated. After years and tens of millions of dollars being spent investigating everyone the Clintons had ever had lunch with for the past 20 years, pressuring witnesses who were found to have committed crimes unrelated to the Clintons into testifying against the Clintons, and generally having free reign to fish for something, anything, to use against the Clintons the Republicans got Bill Clinton to do something that looked like perjury if you didn't actually pay attention to the question he was asked.
So, please tell us, oh Republicans, how biased this investigation is; the first and only investigation into Sarah Palin's abuse of the powers of her current office. The investigation that legislators of both parties, and mostly Republicans at that, initiated is just so unfair.
Lets give Dennis Kucinich free reign and an unlimited budget and time to investigate Sarah Palin and we'll see how she like Clinton level fairness.
