Quote of the day

Roger Simon explains why we in the media are so, so sorry for -- having done our jobs.

LOL

Okay, expect more of the same as McCain tries to demonize the media, his "base", even further.

I would love to see Pallin scrutinized with half the effort that went into the Clinton's lives and now the Obama's lives.

Having done your JOBS?

You have to be kidding. You journalists haven't done your jobs in 8 yrs. You cowered before Bush and now that you see the light at the end of the tunnel you pretend to act brave. You pat yourself on the back for calling out these minor issues and trying to blow them up into something with substance...only to fail time and again.

Having done your jobs? Nary a sliver of what comes from the likes of Roger Simon resembles honest journalism. You guys can't even compare favorably with the National Enquirer.

Maybe that's why the media seems so out of touch with America...anyone working an actual job who tried to pass off this tripe as honest-to-goodness work would be summarily fired. Having done your job? Try again

Very Funny

I have a problem with the media's coverage of Palin and the big fuss about her daughter, but this guy makes good points in a very funny way. It all comes down to just reporting the facts. The problem is we have 24-hour news media that prioritizes sensationalism to get ratings. Talk talk talk - opinions and speculation. When Palin attacks the media, this is what she is talking about. Obama has to deal with the same bullshit, and its unfair to both sides, but I get a lot more upset about the unfairness to my side. The media, especially cable news, is a big wild card, riling up the bases of both parties with their inanity.

Selective questioneering

To quote Mark Penn in yesterday's NYT's:

"On Tuesday, the mainstream media, which never looked into allegations against John Edwards that turned out to be true and might have affected the race, splashed the personal life of Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter onto virtually every front page, including this paper’s — even going as far as to cloak the details in news articles about the vice presidential vetting process."

So it is fair game to accuse Sarah Palin of faking her pregnancy to cover up for her daughter, among other despicable tactics, but not to look into the sordid details of a man who was running for the nomination of Presidency (and was previously nominated for the VP spot)?

The media is doing it's job alright, of following it's own interests.

Expectations

Excuse me, but Mrs. Palin is right to be offended that she is not being treated with the same reverance the media has afforded George Bush, Jr. and everyone in his administration for the past eight years. She is, after all, a Republican; and like Georgejr, knows God's will - and His will mandates that she be Vice President of these United States (and probably, President, considering McCain's age, etc.). Since the media was willing to settle for answers like, "when I was young and reckless, I was young and reckless" (or something like that) from George, about his indiscretions, why wouldn't they accept the same, from Sarah Palin?

From the scrutiny she's been subjected to, one would think she was a Democrat!

Thursday, September 4, 2008 09:14 AM

But no not really

They're not asking anything of Palin. They're practically licking her shoes. This election isn't about Sarah Palin and her knocked up soon to be abused wife teenage daughter. Did I hear anything about healthcare or the economy? Nope.

Rah Rah Rah! We don't need to talk about that because according to Sarah Palin we're in the End-Times and the Apocalypse is upon us. And the press goes right along being blind deaf and dumb.

media lemmings

@ Independence_2008

I agree!

The Republican reaction these past few days of turning themselves into victims of the brutish media is frustratingly comical.

The Repubs have owned the media for 8 years and it would not surprise me at all to see them (the media) fall back into line after the recent backlash against them.

It's disappointing!

Thursday, September 4, 2008 09:14 AM

Front page NYTimes

Splashed headlines on whether or not she was making the right decisions for her family. This after nothing on Edwards who was running while his wife was being treated for cancer and--oh yeah--was cheating on her the whole time.

If you're repeatedly scooped by the Enquirer, then you are by definition not doing your job.

The media SHOULD apologize . . . for not being mean enough to this know-nothing cracker from Alaska . . . the Arkansas of the North.

Could someone please compare her crappy degree in broadcasting from Idaho with Obama'a Occidental/Columbia BA in poli-sci + international relations plus a JD with honors from Harvard Law and Law Review?

The only way Palin could get into Harvard would be if they needed to trap a raccoon in the attic of the Delta House.

In a few short years she ran Freezybuns, Alaska from fiscal solvency into $20,000,000.00 in debt! There's some executive experience. And she's already been caught in outright lies about the Bridge to Nowhere & Troopergate.

So mainstream media, show some guts and call this ignorant trailer park queen to her face: She's a liar.

Thursday, September 4, 2008 09:26 AM

Remember: she set this all in motion with her own press release...

Regarding this paragraph in Roger's article::

"Sarah Palin wanted the media to report on her teenage son, Track, who enlisted in the Army on Sept. 11, 2007, and soon will deploy to Iraq.

"Sarah Palin did not want the media to report on her teenage daughter, Bristol, who is pregnant and unmarried."

Then why did she issue a press release about it? How can her campaign possibly ask that when they issue a release, the press will not follow up on it?

She issued the release to quell the nasty rumor that is floating around that Trig, the Down's baby, is actually her daughter Bristol's baby by her father. While the rumor is untrue, to refute it, Sarah Palin was willing to throw her daughter, the boyfriend, and her entire family under the bus to serve her own career interests.

Look: Sarah Palin gave a good speech last night, but the fact is that her personal, legal, and ethical life is a mess. She is a small town/ small state politician. Like many in that weight class, she's not exactly corrupt, but she has left a messy trail of my ends justify any means decisions behind her that will come up more and more during the campaign. Whatever the RNC says, she was an ill considered choice, and just not ready for prime time.
