The Sarah Palin money bomb

Palin's speech has apparently energized donors, on both sides of the aisle.

The letters thread is now closed.

Count me in

I just tossed in another $50 donation for Obama. Out of my unemployment check, btw.

So, let me get this straight . . .

Since Sarah Palin, Obama has raised 8x as much as McCain?

Perhaps this bodes well.

I've donated twice since last Friday.

Public Financing

The McCain campaign is now restricted from raising its own money, as McCain accepted public financing.

That's not quite true, the campaign can continue to raise money, but it has to be for accounting expenses (and some other miscellaneous expenses), or turned over to the RNC.

So, you'll see McCain fund raising letter the whole campaign, it's just that his campaign can't spend the money.

Where Obama is spending millions on organization, the RNC can spend more on the same.

There won't be a huge Democratic advantage in spending, in fact, excluding 527s, I think Democrats will be outspent. McCain/Palin and the RNC will have more money that Obama/Biden and the DNC.

Broke My Own Promise

After listening to Palin, and not hearing one word on the last Bush/Cheney nightmarish 8 years, I donated $100 to Obama last night after vowing, after FISA, to not donate any money. I'll have to review my bank statement before listening to mcsame tonight but I have a feeling another $100 will be coming Obama's way by the end of Mad John's speech. How much are we allowed to give again? Maybe I should take a loan from my 401(k) . . . .

I Sent Money to Obama, Too

This convention has been creepy. Just really, really creepy.

Really Xantho?

Please enlighten us on the latest fundraising totals from the RNC. The RNC is going to ride that little filly right to the bank are they?

You're such an R-tard . . .

RNC Fundraising

Yeah, I wouldn't be too worried about the RNC when it comes to fundraising. It's a sweet thought though, dears.

Palin has energized me ....

Before Palin, I almost considered McCain merely the worse of two evils. Considering the likelyhood of more democratic control of the house and senate.

His decision to select this right-wing, pentecostal, wacko was all I needed to be called into action. Although I am currently living out of the US, I plan to donate as much as I can afford to support Obama.

I encourage anyone who cares about 'freedom' and the 'constitution' to do the same. This may be our last chance.

Lynn Westmoreland

Alex / War Roome editors

Unrelated to the fundraising note(quite impressive I might add!), Are you going to write about Lynn Westmoreland, R-GA, 3rd distrct (I think), using the word "uppity" to describe Barack and Michelle Obama? I grew up in the South. People who use that language are ONLY referring to it in a racist context. Westmoreland needs to be reprimanded. No (educated) individual uses that word. Find David Gergen's accurrate and astute comments on the use of that word in the Charleton Heston add. This is despicable and deplorable. The GOP has put together the most undiverse pool of individuals in country at this year's convention. I guess that Westmoreleand had enough with the "code" words they were using and just decided to come out say what he (and others?) think about Sen. Obama. This cannot continue! Here is the link:

Can you PLEASE emphasize the ignorance of this redneck Congressman?

Guaranteed

By the end of the Bush/Cheney III convention the DNC and Obama will be as awash in cash as Alaska is in oil revenues.

$ for Obama

I haven't donated to Obama since the primary, but after Palin's grating and nasty speech, I donated $50 to the Obama campaign, plus bought a T-shirt from the website, plus donated $20 to MoveOn which is soliciting $ for voter registration drives. Will continue donating to Obama so long as Grandpa Simpson and his psychotic book-banning lipsticked pit bull are seeking the Oval Office.

It aint about money

Both campaigns will haul in the cash but that isn't what matters at this stage. Energy, not gas, but boots on the ground walking talking foot soldiers that have been missing from the ranks of the 72 year old's effort. They have finally shown up for the McCain's. I gave my money to Edwards and was fooled, now it is time to watch and see if Obama is up to the task.

Palin out of touch

It's been less than a week and we've already learned a lot of awful stuff about Palin (none having to do with her family.) The Republicans are trotted out Governor Palin and are trying to tell us she represents the average American. Yes, her kids are adorable. And it's cool there's a smart, tough women on the Republican ticket (only took them 20 years more than the Democrats.)

But Governor Palin is a creationist, who tried to have books banned in her local library and then tried to fire the librarian who didn't support her. She has associations with an Alaskan separatist group, and worked for Pat Buchanon's extreme election campaign in the past.

Worst of all, Palin believes if a woman is raped -- one of the most horrific scenarios possible -- and gets pregnant in the process, this poor woman should have to carry the baby of the monster who raped her inside her for nine month. This situation would be a living nightmare, and yet this is the America Palin desires and has worked towards.

Oh, and she doesn't believe mankind has anything to do with global warming and doesn't believe in giving visiting rights in hospitals to gay couples.

This woman has nothing in common with most Americans, and is an extremist -- the pork-loving Wasilla Wacko.

"Sarah Palin's speech to the Republican convention really seems to have energized people."

I guess that could make her the energizer bunny.

"We could not count our donations fast enough."

Maybe they should use a computer. I know plenty of retirees who have learned how to do that.

:-p

Fundraising totals.

Really Xantho?

-- underanothername

As of the end of July 2008

Cash on hand

Obama $65 million

McCain $30 million

RNC $66 Million

DNC $22 Million

Raised in August

Obama, not released

DNC, not released

McCain $50 million

RNC, not released.

Public Funds

McCain $84 milion

Obama doesn't get a free $84 million, and DNC fundraising has lagged behind the RNC all year. Obama and the DNC will have to outraise McCain and the RNC plus the $84 million cash infusion.

That's a $42 million per month deficit, and it's incorrect to state that McCain can't raise money. He can, it just has to go to the RNC which can spend it on his behalf.

While you are now informed, I doubt one correction will actually make you enlightened.
