Protesters disrupt McCain speech

Antiwar demonstrators heckle John McCain and disrupt his big moment at the Republican Convention.

Was I the only one offended by the 9/11 footage?

Using that footage for political purposes is revolting. I'm physically ill. Republicans don't own that day!

HOLY AWEFUL TRAIN WRECK OF A SPEECH!!!

Choky McChokechoke

He looks embarrassed. He should be.

It's a bad speech

Halting speech, mis-reads of the teleprompter, a total lack of good writing, simplistic statements, etc. Bleh.

They love him, though

[There, I said it again.] Many lies, meaningless cliches, obvious tendency to invade Iran, but the Republicans love him. They will not listen to us or to Barack. They only listen to him because he says things they expect to hear. Don't confuse me with the facts!

Thursday, September 4, 2008 08:03 PM

USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

"They love him."

Yeah, they love anything that's right-wing. McCain could go up there and read Vogon poetry or passages from "Naked Lunch" and they'd chant "USA! USA! USA!"

If those protestors had only planned a little better

They could of flung a sack of horse shit at McCain's face, and cut out of there before anybody ever even noticed 'em. I'd of given real money to see that on national television.

How can the US fup up again

As a European I watched snatches of McCain speech and I felt insulted - his ignornance, his sham-tastic dumb stupiditiy, his ugly american bad bloating, made me feel that the Vietnamese made a mistake in not putting him down. Taking a minute to reflect on this, I figured that his sad pathetic mewlings are so ultimatley misguided I feel he would have been better off if he had been killed - he is so fiercely misguided, so clearly wrong, so tragically out of touch with the rest of the world, so desperate to drag a futile, incoherent, wrong-understanding out of his tragic life he has made the phrase USA sound like an insult. His tragically misguided vison makes people around the world nauseous. His use of the world fight, his overuse of the word fight made bile rise up in my mouth - for the love of god, allah, satan, flying spagetti monster do not vote for this old doddery dinosaur.

two women removed...

...one man in the rafters, according to the msnbc cameras. This speech is a disaster - first the green background, then the weird off-kilter flagpole with a lone flag up in the corner. What were they trying to say with that? That McCain wandered off in a field? McCain is halting & erratic. The big post-speech applause came for Palin's entrance onto the stage. The protesters forced McCain to stop speaking repeatedly. It's so awful I almost like him more...

Old and Sad Tonight

It's 11 EDT and his speech is still rambling on. He seems very off and not in rhythm at all. Are the continued "USA" chants to cover up other protesters? Even the "stand up and fight" refrain over the cheers of the crowd seems forced and low energy. He looks so old and sad tonight. Can you imagine how this speech would look side by side with Obama's acceptance? And how they are going to look side by side on the debate stage? The choice is so clear now - tired, old, politics that are still trapped in Vietnam or a passionate, dynamic wave of change that is personified in Obama, but represented in the now hundreds of thousands who have seen him speak on the campaign trail.

To the European Irish Person

McCain's pride in his bombing and burning comes from our old USA attitude about World War II, the attitude that we are defending America. That stance was tragically wrong in Vietnam, and it is utterly wrong now in Iraq. But it is extremely strong here.

The people McCain speaks to just assume it. Other Americans understand it. The rest of the world hears it as it really is: inexplicable, inexcusable barbarism.

In summation:

"I know the GOP has screwed this country royally for the last 8 years, but trust me, I'll put an end to it."

Is that their message moving forward? We screwed up big-time, give us another chance?

McCain said nothing about American torture

He spoke of the Vietnamese torturing him, but he said nothing whatsoever about ending torture by Americans!!!!!

CNN is mental

Are any of you watching CNN's coverage after the fact? They're acting as if the freaking thing went well!!!

We've officially (re) entered the Twilight Zone...

Alternative McCain

He didn't even believe his own line about electric cars.

This from a man who can't e-mail or use the Internet.

Any air in the ball?

After this week's debacle, one has to wonder whether McCain has enough air in his ball for any kind of "bounce".

This might become a whitewash by October. I'm not overconfident, but this could get ugly in a hurry. Even the media can't dress this up to make this look even close to decent.

Thursday, September 4, 2008 08:28 PM

@dustball regarding "electric cars"

You're right, McCain made a really weird expression after his line about electric cars. He definitely did not seem to believe in his own statement.

Cindy McCain's video + speech

Cindy McCain's intro video made her parents' marriage and her marriage to John seem all romantic and magical. The video left out the fact that her dad abandonded his family to marry Cindy's mom, and that Johnny Maverick abandonded his wife to marry Cindy.

It's as if somebody made a video about O.J.'s football career, and his fatherhood, but left out anything about his wife.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

So the people I know who actually live in Europe should just wave it all away - my French/Dutch/Belgian/German friends should all just bow down to this rampant stupidity - these people who actually have to go on with the horribly awkwardly difficult job of getting on with their day-to-day lives when maybe my grandfather killed your grandfather or maybe it was the other way around - no-one is sure cos they both ended up dead- but thank god and the american flag that that the yanks showed up - not for moral reasons but for the fact that the Japanese bombed them. Christ there is occasions when Ireland is called the 51st state and this is how we feel - imagine I lived in a country with a legitmate reason to dislike the US
