Palin's army

Sarah Palin rallies the faithful in the biggest speech of her lifetime.

The letters thread is now closed.

@MikeMadden

no, she's used the lipstick line before, only the last time it was "rottweiler'" and not "pit bull" and I don't get how it's complimentary to anyone.

Pretty sure it's Track

not Tripp. I know it's hard to keep track of all those unique Palin first names . . . .

Track

Track, not Tripp. Caught it as soon as I published it, fixed now. Thanks for pointing it out, though.

I hate everything that Sarah Palin stands for...

and yet I thought that, as far as American GOP politics go, she hit all the markers that she had to, and that she delivered the hell out of that speech. What she did tonight will play well with a lot of people.

Cheap shot?

cheap shots along the way (were the two jokes about community organizing really necessary, or the line about not needing focus groups for her first election -- one in which a total of about 1,000 people voted?)

Two sections about community organizing and not needing focus groups is cheap, on a site that question the motherhood of her youngest child. Amazing.

Since Friday, Salon has been as cheap as any Rovian attack, and almost all of it was personal and bitter.

So know, after the bile that has been spilled about her, you expect her to mention that Biden's son is going to Iraq. LOL.

You do understand that Beau Biden is a Captain in the Delaware National Guard, and as such, his tour of duty will be much different that Track Palin's?

I warned people to not underestimate Palin, but people on the far left wouldn't listen. She's by far the best pick McCain could have made.

Exactly

Exactly, and to make it harder on Democrats, she hasn't pushed any of her personal beliefs as Governor. That allows many to overlook some of her more objectionable beliefs.

She didn't beat a sitting Governor with 22 years in the US Senate in the Primary, then a former Governor of eight years in the General Election by lacking political gifts.

That's not necessarily true...

I am not privy to all of the things Palin has done as Governor BUT, just from reading Greenwald's account of her time as Mayor, we can get a quick glimpse of her ideas on executive power.

I just think that she is a more charismatic and well-spoken version of GWB. Maybe that's what the country wants. But I guess we'll have to see.

Just wondering

Why is it church people are so proud of how snarky they can be?

Cindy McCain not in her army

I'm trying to guess how many times Cindy McCain has told her husband "We are not having that trash Palin family coming to our house, stealing things and spilling beer on our rugs!"

Super-rich, mega-elite, old people and pregnant teen, foul-mouthed white trash may make up the Republican party but they don't hang out together.

Talk about damning with faint praise

"She's by far the best pick McCain could have made," according to Xanthro. Couldn't agree more.

Maverick my ass

The messages here seem to be the same we hear from the GOP every four years - we're gonna win at any cost! So if you're already behind them, that must be exhilarating to hear. For the undecideds I don't think this plays too well. Obama's message has been that we (the collective USA 'we') could turn things around this election year and do great things. For anyone on the fence, that means much more than simply electing another empty (pant)suit. I truly hope that the average American can see through this, and understand the importance of organizing our national community.

The bald truth is: this woman is for policies that produce poor results in her own home. Her husband works for an oil company (haven't we had enough of this?). There are questions about her ethics. She has affiliations that most would consider unpatriotic (if they understood them). She does not believe global climate change is at all manmade. But mostly... we have no idea what she stands for or how she may influence the national political agenda... and she just read the nation a speech that was written for "the vice presidential nominee".

This is the mcsame campaign that Bush ran, minus the buzzword "Maverick". I don't want to have a beer with any of them.

If only I listened to Xanthro

Good delivery by her, but it changes nothing as to her qualifications as VP. This should be her high point, then the media(probably just the blogs) will point out the many lies she spouted during the speech. In less than a week of vetting by the media, I was able to spot at least 5 bullshit points she made. It sounds good when you here it(my mother even called to make sure I was getting an education), but anyone paying attention will see through it. The fault will never be on underestimating Palin, it will be on overestimating the American media and public's ability to research important decisions regarding our gov't officials.

The right wing and extreme christians LOVE her! Her base is fired up!!

And? She's not getting any new votes. Once it's made clear that she

1) tried to ban books (Ms. Palin, how to you reconcile your effort to ban books and the First amendment?)

2) Is ALL about getting pork, and leaving her small town of less than 10,000, what is it, 20 or so million in debt?

3) Her husband very recently belonged to the secessionist Alaska Independence Party (that's one step above treason and FAR worse than not wearing a flag lapel pin. What do you think they would have said about Michelle Obama if she belonged to a secessionist party??)

4) lied when she said she did not support the bridge to nowhere when she did

5) exteme on her abortion views - no exceptions (sorry parents, but your raped 12 year old HAS to have that baby. or sorry parents, even though your 12 year old might die because of this pregnancy, too bad)

6) made a line item veto to slash funding for a state program benefiting teen mothers in need of a place to live.

7) wants creationism taught in schools

8) supports strictly abstinence only education - which clearly doesn't work

She may have fired up her base, but she hasn't gotten any new voted. The people in the middle won't vote for her.
