What I find even more interesting about Palin’s “experience” is that Alaska is awash in money (oil royalties that have increased with the increase in the price per barrel …GO OPEC!) with more to come as soon as natural gas starts pumping in the future. There is no end in sight of this windfall for Alaskans. There is so much money coming in that each resident (not taxpayer) of Alaska just got a rebate check of $1,200. Maybe that’s why it’s a good idea to have five kids if you live in Alaska. Why does a small state in population awash with over $2 billion in surplus need ANY Federal largesse?
So …why does Alaska need any Federal funds, including earmarks (like the Bridge To Nowhere that she was for before she was against it …but still accepted the money for “other projects”)? In July ’08 the estimated US population was 301 million and the estimated population of Alaska is 670,000, which is .0002% of the national population, so the 49 states proportionally paid 99.998% of the $230 million for the infamous Bridge. The Alaska share of the Bridge is $4,600 …in TOTAL! Now, if I could get that return on my meager stocks, I would make Bill Gates look like a pauper! So my question is …how do we get Ted Stevens to be the senator from Pennsylvania?
OBTW: The majority of the town debt promoted by Palin was to build a 5,000 seat stadium …in a town of 7,000-8,000. That even puts Philly to shame. For if we built a stadium in Philly to match the population of Wasilla, our new Quakers stadium would seat 1,3000,000. Now that’s my idea of a stadium!
Aaaahhh Sarah …we hardly knew ‘ya!
You're a little late to the party on this one. It still stands - she kept the pork money.
This is from Anne Kilkenny who lives in Alaska:
"As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget
guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative action restored most of these projects--which had been vetoed simply because she was not aware of their importance--but with the unobservant she had gained a reputation as “anti-pork”.
Maybe this was her Emily Littel moment, "What? . . . .oh . . . never mind . . "
Palin is a nasty piece of work. Go ahead. Google Anne and see what Palin's record is like in Alaska. All those things that the rethug talking points and mcsame campaign won't tell you.
I'm off now - it's been a fun day playing in the sandbox with all you good folks - keep those cards and letters coming.
I suppose you're for it, like all good liberals?
Or may I count on you fighting for my right to retain more of my earnings? You would be an unexpected ally but, hey, I'm not choosy.
So you can't defend the road to nowhere? I didn't think so. We're not talking about Kennedy or anyone else right now. We're talking about Palin. When Kennedy runs for VP we can talk about him. Right now, we're talking about Palin. You can't defend her so you attack someone else. So predictable, so rethuglican, so over . . .
The road leads to a the ferry, which leads to the island, upon which sets the only airport around.
The problem with the bridge, is that the ferry is sufficient at this time. The road, as are many roads in colder areas, was in need of repair because of climate and traffic.
Far too many members of Congress place this type of spending in bills, and while the money was removed from building the bridge, it still went to Alaska. Now, did Palin vote for this? No, she did not.
The US Congress approved it.
Palin has vetoed over 300 wasteful spending projects as Governor.
No, the only thing that hits a nerve with me is sheer willful stupidity.
Name calling and nasty language. Seems like I hit a nerve. Why are rethugs so touchy these days? Well, no, the other one, I sure hope you have a wonderful day and I enjoyed talking with you. Y'all come back now, hear?
Oh, puh-leeze, learn to read carefully.
As I said in my original post, the whole "... to nowhere" was a misnomer from the start, because Ketchican, small though it may be, is not "nowhere."
It was a simple cost-benefit analysis of cost of bridge vs. number of people served.
And the road doesn't go "nowhere." It goes from the ferry landing to Anchorage, again, hardly "nowhere."
Just because you live in shitville don't assume everywhere else is "nowhere."
Be sure to kick yourself in the ass come Nov. 5.
You were defending her stance of being against government pork. The road to nowhere gives the lie to that stance. I am not attacking Palin personally, I am attacking her statements and her actions which seem to belie those statements. If you guys don't want to talk about the issues - that's fine. I understand. You can't defend her stance when given the facts. That's OK. I understand. Thanks for playing!
You are an idiot. I never defended the road. I simply made a comment. It's idiots like you who see everything as a battle, always playing gotcha politics, highly selective in your outrage, quick to pounce and ready to resort to cheap name-calling.
And Democrats will wake up flabbergasted on Nov. 5 and wonder why they lost again. No matter how much Obama tries to distance himself from your type, he's the representative of the worldview you represent.
Americans look at Sarah Palin and look at the people attacking her. Gee, tough choice there.
Pat yourself on the back come that November morning.
So you can't defend the road to nowhere? I didn't think so. We're not talking about Kennedy or anyone else right now. We're talking about Palin. When Kennedy runs for VP we can talk about him. Well, Canadians are very polite but I think they would politely decline. They've pretty much had their fill of seccesionist lunatics - they don't need Palin and her ilk stirring the pot again.
