consider how horribly the Republicans treated Chelsea Clinton... McCain joking that "...Chelsea was so ugly because she was Janet Reno's daughter". Chelsea was 14 years old at the time. How "mavericky" of McCain to pick on a kid.

1. to put her daughter in this humiliating position. I am a father and I wouldn't do this to my daughter.

Oh, and to the issue, anyone who accuses the Left of being vicious compared to the Right has been living in a dream world. Remember, the Right brought us:

a) The Saxby Chambliss attack ads on Sen. Max Cleland during the 2002 Georgia Senate race, in which Chambliss, who did not serve in the military, compared Cleland, a triple-amputee who lost his limbs in Vietnam, to Osama bin Laden (this seems to be a common thread in the GOP, people who bailed on military service attacking the patriotism of those who served).

b) The 2000 primary whisper campaign in South Carolina, in which Karl Rove operatives spread rumors that McCain had a black love child, when in reality he and his wife had adopted a daughter from Central Asia.

That's pure ugliness. That's the Right in a nutshell.
