Who is Sarah Palin?

The governor of Alaska, now John McCain's running mate, is relatively new on the scene.

The letters thread is now closed.

Sehwilnot get the woman's vote

This candidate has been picked to fire up the religious storm troopers to get out the vote for McCain. She is ardently anti choice. This is not progress for women. Republicans will loose much of the moderate republican woman' vote with her.

Johnny come lately is reeking of desperation

McCain's VP pick is blatant pandering to women voters. He tried to pick a so called "maverick" too.

But here's the thing, he can't pretend to be a candidate of diversity - the Democrats already did that months ago. And let's not forget that McCain would work to destroy a woman's right to choose and limit reproductive freedom. This doesn't change just because he has chosen a woman to be his running mate.

John McCain is just a Johnny Come Lately riding the coattails of Clinton's and Obama's accomplishments. This reeks of desperation.

rosenkavilier

this is the first time a black man has been elected to run as the presidential nominee of a major political party.

that is huge and you should not take away from this milestone because you are a right wing partisan hack.

we should all celebrate this milestone - regardless of political affilation. we should all be proud americans.

don't try to take away from that.

really - i thought for just a day we could all come together and be happy with ourselves as americans.

Here's the population of Alaska

663,661

That's a real reassuring figure for the person next in line for President, isn't it? Who will she choose for her VP in that event...take Dick Cheney out of the mothballs.

Really scary!

smart choice?

Smart or Dumb? McCain picks Sarah Palin for VP [VOTE] - http://www.thriveorfail.com/39ebb

This is a huge miscalculation by Rove and the repuglicans

I think they actually bought into own hyped BS that there are millions of pissed off Hillary voters who in a frenzy of misandry will flock to vote for McSame just because he has a woman on his ticket.... WOW, what stupidity.

She's stands against everything that Hillary is about, freedom of choice, responsible government (already under investigation! H O L Y C O W) standing up for working people.. you name it.

I predict they will gain about 47 votes from supports of Hillary Clinton, they will lose about 1,000,000 votes from fundamentalist who can't stand to see a woman out of the kitchen.

Hurray for McCain!

As a liberal Democrat, I'm thrilled that McCain was dumb enough to pick a right-wing nutcase woman as his VP. If there are a majority of voters in the country who think a small-time Alaskan legislator would make a good President (not unlikely given McCain's age) or that someone even more like George Bush than McCain is a good addition to the ticket, then I supppose we deserve the disaster we'll get -- but I think it's more likely that McCain just elected Obama.

I suspect that this is a very good choice.

She is better looking than the other three corporate candidates.

She will get a substantial percentage of the women's vote.

She will get the fundamentalist and creationist vote.

Having a child with Down's syndrome will also get a lot of votes - empathy and identification with other families with similar issues.

With only two years of experience in Alaska she is naive and untainted compared to the other three candidates and thus would make a far more suitable president than the other three.

This is chance to have a female in the White House.

Alaska has good pr and a good rep.

Women are easier to trust than those crusty velvet tongued reptiles in suits.

She has admitted to using marijuana when it was legal in Alaska - that gets the stoner vote away from Nader and the Libertarians.

Add up all theses little bits and maybe it adds up to something heavier than Biden.

Biden? That locks up the pro war vote for Obama.

Biden had Delaware drop the bogus charges against Larry Sinclair freeing him up to continue harping on Obama.

PUMA count

How many PUMAs could there possibly be? I can't imagine that too many lifelong Dems are sooooooo angry about Hillary that they are going to go and vote for 2 anti-abortion gun nuts.

Friday, August 29, 2008 09:09 AM

Look, look everyone.

My VP has a vagina, I'm such a maverick.

The retired Democrat nerd view

I have a friend, a yellow dog Democrat, not in any way a movement feminist, who has been so incensed over the Hillary-Obama fight that for the first time in her life, she has been leaning Republican this year. The choice of Palin as VP is going to seal this deal.

Friday, August 29, 2008 09:10 AM

McCain must think women are stupid!

Does he really think that women will vote for ANY woman? Moreover, this is an insult -- he chose someone who is definitely NOT fit to be president and BARELY FIT TO BE VP, if she's fit to be in the White House at all!

So what he's saying with this choice, is: Take that, feminists! Second place only for you broads!

The fact that she's had five kids just shows what he thinks women are only good for: second place, and childbearing.

Is he really thinking women will vote for her in the hopes that he will croak in a timely manner and leave her president? My goodness gracious. This just proves the man is just as insane as I always suspected.

How Sad

How sad and how insulting to assume that a "target" of women voters will vote for you simply because of gender.

Even thru all of the controversy and BS the media spouted about the "PUMA's", I felt their voices deserved to be heard and should be thoroughly respected.

I am glad to see that a lot of the "PUMA" (I hate that word as much as you do... lets just call them Clinton Supporters shall we?) women speaking out on Palin's nomination are just as disgusted by what appears to be a lame duck attempt to get their vote.
