Who is Sarah Palin?

The governor of Alaska, now John McCain's running mate, is relatively new on the scene.

The letters thread is now closed.

Maybe we have 2 campaign operatives

Here's what lilybean had to say about Michelle Obama's speech:

"michelle obama gave a speech, the same old garbage she's been peddling everywhere since her 'angry black woman' moment. Apparently an awful lot of people have really low expectations out there because she regurgitated the poor obama, the victim storyline and you people act as if it was the Gettysburg Address. What did she do so earth shattering? With the bar as low as you Koolaid drinkers have it, Elsie the Cow could give a speech about chewing cud that would have you all swooning."

Aww, how cute.

No, not the prospective vp, these neocon trolls who only boost this site higher on the radar.

The only thing cuter? The Ron Paul people. C'mon you adorable little neck-tie anarchists, you're not done wearing him around your avatar's sweet little head are you? This Palin pick is even more pandering than the Biden pick, you could sooo easily get yourselves on the radar, too.

Could we have a campaign operative in our midst?

Probably, wasting their time and our time...I have a heart full of joy today...could have McCain made a better choice to hand the White House to Obama and the Dems? Oh no, I don't think so.

A great speech last night...and a doofus response from McCain team this morning. Thanks for the joy McCain! And Karl Rove if you are behind this so-called "master stroke" - my accolades - you just lost the White House for the Republicans. Thanks Karl! You're the best!

Why yes, yes we can!

Uh oh, things may be looking down for the home team

Contrary to what the posters here are writing, Sarah Palin is a stroke of genius as McCain's VP choice. She's ballsy & has high bipartisan support in her state. She's stood up to Big Oil & pushed thru some pretty liberal programs concerning the environment. She's made some enemies in the Republican party in AK & never missed a beat pushing her own agenda as a result. She's the one responsible for killing the bridge to nowhere insuring a bad rep with Don Young & Ted Stevens. This changes the entire dynamics of this race. I'm really surprised, I underestimated McCain. Palin has the highest approval rating of any governor in the Union. She was a beauty queen & is an avid moose hunter with 5 kids & a native American husband. And apparently, she's tough as a pineknot. That's quite a colorful combination. I think we've got us a horse race!!

Deer in headlights

She just walked up on stage. What the fuck is this speech about?

Her husband is a world champion snowmachine racer and apparently starred in Deadliest Catch.

And for Secy of State, we have the fat guy from Ice Road Truckers. Christ on a Bicycle.

Memo to: Hillary Supporters from: John McCain

You all are obviously a bunch of empty-headed twits who don't care about public policy and will vote for anybody wearing a skirt, so I feel perfectly comfortable in blatantly pandering to you.

McCain/Palin '08!

You know,

I bet SNL is pretty upset Tina Fey isn't part of the cast anymore.

HE'S OLD!

The real downside of the Palin pick will be that it allows the Obama campaign to hit McCain's geriatric state relentlessly but indirectly--as in, what kind of judgement does it show when a seventy-two year old man picks Dan Quayle lite to be a heartbeat away form the presidency.

Friday, August 29, 2008 09:29 AM

why?

would any reasonable person think militant PUMAs be overjoyed by a woman as second banana?

(Now, if McCain had announced HRC as his running mate, then we could talk ...)

Friday, August 29, 2008 09:29 AM

Perhaps a wise debate tactic

McCain knew Biden would wipe the floor with any of his picks. Since McCain is so quick to throw around the POW card, I'm sure the republicans will have no problem playing the victim card with the poor young lady getting beat up by mean Ol' Joe.

Friday, August 29, 2008 09:28 AM

No, no, no - YOU misunderstand.

I don't like Palin because I think she pulls a whole lot of Liberal Clinton voters - I like her because she energizes the conservative base!

A true conservative. Phew. That's all Republicans have been waiting for!

Friday, August 29, 2008 09:27 AM

are you kidding me? is this a joke?

Are you kidding me? I am so offended by this choice. This is the most qualified, accomplished woman that he can come up with! I'm not a Republican, but how about Kay Bailey Hutchinson or Christine Whitman?

If this is supposed to show his judgment, how much could he possibly know about a woman from a state thousands of miles away with a population of a mid-sized city? Less than two years ago she was a mayor of a small town! Are you kidding me? We're supposed to trust her to be the vice-president of a 72 year old man...

Friday, August 29, 2008 09:27 AM

@ Lynx

I'm just pointing out the facts... if someone wants to pretend that having a female VP is not historic or significant, while pretending that having an African American presidential contender is, that's their problem.

History will be made when either of these two people actually get into office, not while they're circling each other like wolves trying to get it. Hillary's campaign proved that achieving great success as a "historic" candidate does as much to prove this country's bigotry, misogyny, and backwardness as anything.

Friday, August 29, 2008 09:27 AM

Palin's already one up on Cheney ...

She's never shot any of her hunting buddies!

Seriously, I'm not sure if this choice shows that McCain is more clever than we think ... or if he's losing it. It seems like an attempt to shore up the conservative base, peel off some disaffected Hillary voters, and steal Obama's thunder by having a "first" of his own. On the other hand, Palin's got so little experience that the thought of her being a heartbeat away from the presidency will give a lot of Republican voters pause. And her gender may lose McCain more votes from Republican misogynists than he gains from disgruntled ex-Hillarites. Mostly it seems reactive, which is not a good sign for the R's.
