Bush might not make same mistake twice

Will Gustav get in the way of President Bush's scheduled speech at the Republican convention next week?

The letters thread is now closed.

Let Bush cover Gustav with the Weather Channel

I say let Shrub hang out in the Lower 9 while Gustav comes by and broadcast it live.

I want to see his Chimpy Highness getting blown over sideways like the Weather Channel reporters.

First Sentence

I hope that first sentence was written with your tongue firmly planted in your cheek.

Focus on the Family's campaign has succeeded

The Focus on the Family campaign appears to have succeeded. They wanted people to pray for a "rain of biblican proportions" during the Convention. Perhaps those praying forgot to indicate WHICH convention or WHICH city.

Write a LTTE. Remind people that, when you ask for a boon from god, you must be careful. Sometimes god makes her own decision about how to grant your boon.

WOW

the Dems couldn't ask for anything better than another hurricane bearing down on New Orleans just as the Republican conventions gets underway with good ole Fly Over George. Beautiful.

@dataguyx

I agree and further think that this is proof that God hates the right-wing.

As such all those people who prayed for rain during Obama's speech should a)stay in their trailers on election day and b)stop attending church for 5 years.

Bush might not make hurricane mistake twice

Whether or not he repeats the "mistake" depends on the overall political alignment of the effected areas. It's a pretty good bet that he'll take care of people who are reliable Republican voters.

How about McCain making the same hurricane mistake twice?

I just wanted to remind everyone what John "I'm Ready to be President" McCain was doing on the day Katrina hit New Orleans, August 29th, 2005:

That's right, eating cake with George "Helluva Job Brownie" Bush.

Maybe that Twin Cities crack was justified.

Playing Air Guitar?

Do you mean he will not be playing air guitar at a fundraiser in California? Or do you mean he won't be doing a fly over several days later? Or do you mean he won't appoint a crony to oversea this? Will he only send aid to states with Republican Governors? At least Louisiana has one now? Or do you mean he will give a damn this time? Hmmm...things to think about!

Thursday, August 28, 2008 10:19 AM

Maybe it's just a convenient excuse not to have Bush there

It's entirely possible that the GOP was just looking for a reason not to have Bush at the convention without looking like they don't want him there.

Thursday, August 28, 2008 10:25 AM

What?!

"If there's one thing George W. Bush has shown Americans time and again during his nearly eight years as president, it's that he's a man who's willing and able to learn from his mistakes." In what alternate universe has this been the case? Do I need to turn up my snark detector?

Karma

A hurricane bearing down on New Orleans during the Republican Convention to remind our nation and the world just how "compassionate" those conservatives really were? This is obviously not Jerry Falwell's god.

Thursday, August 28, 2008 10:31 AM

@dataguyx

My granny alwasys said "Be careful what you pray for because you may get it."

Thursday, August 28, 2008 10:40 AM

@ Hollywoodaholic

This is obviously not Jerry Falwell's god.

Au contraire. Have you read the Old Testament? This very well could be Jerry Falwell's god, even if Jerry wouldn't have been happy about it.

CNN reporting that Putin did it for McCain

"In an exclusive interview with CNN's Matthew Chance in the Black Sea city of Sochi Thursday, Putin said the U.S. had encouraged Georgia to attack the autonomous region of South Ossetia."

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/08/28/russia.georgia.cold.war/index.html

McCain = War without end..

If there really was an angry

Old-testament god like the like the hate-filled are praying to in order to disrupt the dem convention – don’t you think he’d have already smote Bush? Or Cheney at the very least?

C’mon it is very elegant proof.

I imagine they are just using this as a convient excuse to cut Bush’s speaking time short. They’ll get him in action figure mode and have him beam in via satellite for a couple of cheers but not let him speak long enough to screw it up.

As long as we can fun of someone

Who cares how hard NO gets walloped again.

Thursday, August 28, 2008 10:51 AM

@ahoy - shame on you

the Dems couldn't ask for anything better than another hurricane bearing down on New Orleans just as the Republican conventions gets underway with good ole Fly Over George. Beautiful.

My husband just pulled out of our driveway here in Central Texas. He's heading to New Orleans, our pre-Katrina home, to evacuate his 86-year old mother, and his 62-year old sister, who's undergoing her last round of chemo as I write.

Sorry, but for some of us, Katrina is hardly some convenient marker to be maximized to Obama's benefit. Yes, I detest George W. Bush for his stunningly cavalier attitude towards Katrina victims. My husband and I were among them. However, I equally deplore callous people like you who are capable of trivializing the immense tide of Katrina suffering for political benefit. This is way beyond cheap, but it's all too illustrative of the 'new' Democratic party, another heart breaker in its own right.

Thursday, August 28, 2008 11:02 AM

KateTex

I disagree with you in so many ways but you are right on here- there is no excuse to take pleasure for political gain from people’s suffering. On the other hand - I do hope the president does the right thing because he is the president not because we are in heated political battle. And on the other, other hand we know that the clean-up and assistance would have been there a lot faster – and has been in the past – to Florida so there is precedent for the politization of natural (and man made) disasters.

Best wishes to you and your family getting out of there safely.

Thursday, August 28, 2008 11:02 AM

Dear KateTex

I hope and pray for the safety of your husband's mother and sister and indeed for all of the citizens of New Orleans. I do wonder, however, why you have extrapolated one comment about how "dems couldn't ask for better...etc" to being a statement attributable to the whole Democratic party and to all democrats. You don't even know if the person making it is a democrat.

Thursday, August 28, 2008 11:22 AM

Of course he won't

"Bush might not make same mistake twice"

Reminds me of an old saying they got in Texas:

"Fool me once... shame on... shame on you.

Fool me twice... uh uh... can't get fooled twice."

Thursday, August 28, 2008 11:24 AM

Boo Hoo

I agree it could just be an excuse to keep that miserable excuse for a human being out of sight and out of mind.

I want that idiot traitor up on the stage glued to McCain showing his abject assholery and reminding everyone that his administration was disasterous and that a vote for McCain equals 4 more years of the same.
