So was John Kerry. I loved the way Kerry spoke about ending torture.
Was the speech I've been waiting for. Just magnificent. Easily the best speech of the convention, and a real missive against the failed policies of the Republicans, while also wholeheartedly supporting Obama. He nailed it on every level. Bravo.
senator kerry is on now...and he's doing some major attacks too. wow....hope they left something for sen biden!
"Yes he can, but we gotta elect him first!"
I think Bill did an excellent job. I was a little worried before the speech started, but in retrospect I do not why. Bill Clinton has always delivered *great* speeches.
President Clinton was absolutely fantastic. I just miss seeing the man speak before a large audience. He is tremendous.
Zing!
Not only did Bill Clinton remind me why I loved him as President, but John Kerry......WOW!!! Where was this guy four years ago?????
So many hitting it out of the park that this is like the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball!
Three more I'm psyched to see -
Joe Biden
Al Gore
President Barack Obama!
Gogogogogo!!!!!!!!
After all the hand wrining and worry President Clinton came out and did everything anyone could have asked for, even more than what his wife did. For all his flaws he still can bring it like no one else when it really counts.
I hope Bill Clinton's speech tonight convinced at least some of the doubters that he and Hillary Clinton are devoted to the Democratic party taking back the White House.
I don't know how his words played with Obama's supporters but as a Clinton voter, I can say both he and Hillary have made me search my soul about what I should do in November.
I hope both sides can put aside our differences and work toward a common goal and understanding.
To my sisters (and brothers, too) who supported Hillary Clinton and were sorely disappointed by her loss, who will we really be punishing by casting aside a lifetime of believing in the Democratic party and not taking the historic opportunity to cast our ballots for the first African-American president?
If there are wrongs in the process, we can work to right them. If the media has been biased, we can make our feelings known. But one thing I am becoming convinced we cannot do is leave the White House in Republican hands for another four years.
I once thought John McCain was a different kind of Republican but the more I see him, the more I realize he is no different from other members of the GOP who have never cared about people like me.
Bill Clinton was absolutely great tonight! He is such a natural and this occasion brought out the best in him. I especially liked the way he directly addressed some of the Repub talking points against Obama and the way he so clearly and forcefully emphasized the failures of the Republicans over the last eight years.
It was when the band was wrapping up its flaccid R&B rendition of Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop Thinkin' About Tomorrow." They played the old Clinton campaign theme song, dredged up after 15 years, and they got the signal to quit the music on the lyric, "Yesterday's gone, yesterday's gone..."
I was a little disappointed that Bill Clinton didn't talk about the race card having been played against him.
" do you want to reward them for the last 8 years by giving them another four"
Why dont the others talk this way? Majority of the Americans like this kind of talk. It just sticks to your mind.
I remember reading somewhere that when Newt Gingrich first heard Bill Clinton give a speech he commented "that this guy could mean trouble for us"...something to that effect.
Obama needs to keep his speeches simple and keep reminding Americans in a simple way of the dangers in putting McCain in the Whitehouse. That is what is needed. Period.
Senator Kerry stole the show from former President Bill Clinton! Who'd a thunk it? Kerry had a barnburner in him! He destroyed McCain, and praised Obama to the heavens. If he had given speeches like this four years ago, we might not be having this conversation right now.
"Before McCain debates Obama, he needs to end the debate with himself."
Bill said everything I'd hoped to hear from Hillary last night. And then Kerry came on, and I thought "Why follow Clinton with this?" Then Kerry started speaking, and I thought, "Okay, better ideas, but of course not the passion of Clinton." Then Kerry had me almost in tears. And then cheering! A really great speech. Oh, why couldn't he have done that four years ago?
Bill Clinton is a force of nature. He was and is wonderful, brilliant, able to articulate and communicate the concepts this campaign needs to drive home. How I have missed his intelligence for these long years of GWB embarrassment! He's stumbled over the course of his wife's campaign, but was at his remarkable best tonight. He and Hillary have done themselves proud under difficult circumstances and, despite everything, they will remain influential, intelligent and very needed as we confront our current crop of enormous difficulties.
I loved his performance and I loved the way his audience responded. Clearly he is still well-loved by all in the hall.
But Bill said one of his jobs was to warm up the croud for Biden. And then up popped Kerry with one of the most boring speaches I can remember from Kerry. Which means, quite boring indeed. So clearly the unspoken goal was for Kerry to cool down the crowd after Clinton warmed them up. What's that about?
amazing speech by President Clinton--he addressed every issue--with intelligence. The best part was when he pointed out how awful it was when the Republicans finally had the chance to put their theories into action.
The pundits on MSNBC (especially David Gregory) owe him an apology for thinking that he was going to "act up." He is smarter than all of them.
