Some advisors are reportedly discussing the idea of announcing McCain's running mate on the night Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination.

The letters thread is now closed.

McCain should announce immediately.

I could use a good laugh right about now.

Bring it

He'll be bashed up & down in the press for the tacky timing.

Mavericky

If I were McCain, I would definitely announce Thursday, maybe early evening. Remember, he's a POW and didn't have a house to live in for 5 years. That means he can do no wrong, at least as far as the stoopid bobblehead pundits are concerned.

Let it be Mitt

and his merry band of draft dodging spawn.

Mitt means of repug loss, unfortunately I think Rove knows this and won't let it be Mittins.

"Don't bother showing up you cultist SOB, just show us your money"

So what sort of freak will the repugs trot out????

Real Classy

About as classy as A-Rod announcing his free agency during Game 7 of the World Series.

So tacky!

That would be about the tackiest thing that McCain could possibly do, and I think that if he did do it there would be a definite backlash against him.

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 08:26 PM

Oh Please...

Let it be Lieberman. Please, please please. Droopy Dawg would be the nail in the McCain campaign's coffin.

If McCain DOES try to Horn In

May the announcement of his choice fall like a thull dud, buried in News Network obscurity. GWB ran a filthy campaign in 2004, but even he had the good sense never to try grabbing attention for himself during Kerry's speech on the final night of the Demo convention. And if he tries it, may McCain be excoriated up one side and down the other by both parties for behaving like a spoiled brat who tries to hog all the attention at someone ELSE's birthday party. Because that, in electoral terms, would be the effect of McCain making his announcement on Thursday Night. Making the announcement on Friday is quite rude and pushy enough. I almost want McCain to try so that he can experience a nicely devastating public opinion backlash at his own Convention for such poor sportsmanship.

If he does announce on Thursday, the audience would consist of Cindy, the GOP VEEP pick and his family, Fox News, and his dog, if McCain has one. Everyone else will be focused on Obama.

Hate to Say It, btu Rich Lowry is Right

If McCain does announce on Thursday, his choice will be on the newscrawl at the bottom of all the news networks (that of course doesn't include Fox; they're an opinion network) while they focus on the thousands of screaming Democrats cheering Obama's speech. It's a sure way to guarentee no bounce from the choice.

Shiral...

If McCain has a dog, he has my heartfelt condolences - the dog, that is.

Bad form, indeed!

McCain is socially dysfunctional. You can blame it on his time as a P.O.W. if you want. The "straight talking" McCain often displays bad form. But, the Republicans better be careful how they treat McCain - you don't want to get this guy pissed off!!

Respectfully yours,

What goes around...

If McCain pulls this stunt, then on his nomination night at the republican convention, during his acceptance speech, the Democrats should call a special session of congress to announce impeachment proceedings against Bush, Cheney and Rice, and criminal charges against Rove, Tenet and Rumsfeld.
