Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich, who ran for president earlier this year, brought down the house at the Pepsi Center Tuesday afternoon.

Wake up indeed!

Excellent speech. The standing ovations were deserved.

He must have brought the vegan oatcakes

'cause, you know, everyone is happy about vegan oatcakes and will cheer for that.

Wake up, America!

Too bad Kucinich didn't have more media exposure during the primaries -- if he had, perhaps, we wouldn't have a Democratic nominee who people think is an anti-war candidate, but isn't. We also might have a candidate who has a convincing message on healthcare.

But alas, we don't.

Wake up, indeed.

Was his wife there?

I'll give her a standing ovation, bada bom. (funny drum roll)

That is a really good catch phrase, surprised it hasn't been more used. I sure feel America is asleep at the wheel after the last presidental election.

P.S. You know Dennis would never cheat.

oops

presidential election

I was always with Obama

But always liked Kucinich best next

He was the only other candidate

Who was against the war with the left.

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 04:44 PM

What does this say about America?

Based on these quotes, it seems that DK was simply (albeit cogently) voicing what everyone's thinking already. Yet this message is so far removed from the mainstream political discourse that it seems like a revelation.

What's wrong with this picture?

Yay For Kucinich And Yay For Salon

Kucinich was my first choice for president before he decided to pull out of the race. Glad to see his focus in this speech on something a little more important than whether or not Obama is a scary black man.

Thanks to Salon for providing another reason why I always feel my subscription money is well spent. The cable news airheads (except for Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow) would never have strayed from their Kucinich is a weirdo script no matter what the content of his speech was.

Kucinich Gets It

Kucinich is one of the only Democrats who actually has a clue about what's going on with the country, which is why he's effectively a pariah within the Democratic Party, especially among the Blue Dogs and the DLC DINOs. I'm glad he was at least given a chance to speak and be heard.

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 05:05 PM

woot!

Attention must be paid to this true patriot.

Wouldn't it be grand to see him stumping for Obama, and getting some air time? Some admiration? Some respect?

video? transcript?

Following the CNN ad on this page, I tried to search for video or a transcript of the Kucinich speech and only found video from January and before that. The sponsored links were all about Obama. So, someone paid CNN (at least the web site) to push people to Obama pages if you searched on Kucinich. Not that it supersedes the actual results, but still.

I guess what did I expect?

Does anyone have a nice source for the video that will not require Microsoft Silverlight?

Prophet Without Honour

Dollars to Donuts this will be the only positive mention of the content or delivery or reception of the Kucinich speech...mockery or vilification are the only attitudes the Press will show toward Kucinch...but if they say he's a joke,he must be,right?

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 05:15 PM

best speech so far

Caught the speech on C-Span and was very moved by his enthusiasm and message of change. I'd be honored to ride on a spaceship with Kucinich any day.

He Spoke Of the Same Things .....

In the televised primary debates .......

Why did he get no support ???

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 05:19 PM

courageous, passionate, and indefatigable

dennis kucinich is a true american hero! wake up, america!

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 05:22 PM

Why did they let a Democrat speak???

A man like Kucinich clearly doesn't belong with that crowd. We want to elect a Republican and we don't care if it is McCain or Obama or Clinton.

Corporations uber alles!

Kuciniich just doesn't get it.

War is job one.

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 05:24 PM

Wake up America

Before Freddy Kruger carves up your ass

McCain wants to sell you another war

And a lie about cheap gas.

Kucinich Not Only Gets It, He NAILS It!

Dennis Kucinich doesn't just give us mealy-mouthed platitudes about "hope" and "change", he lays out specifically the criminal activities of the Bush/Cheney/Rove Administration and pushes hard for action to remove and prosecute these felons. He doesn't vote for compromises letting corporate violators of Constitutional rights off the hook, he does mess around with voting for something before he was against it. Kucinich is one of the few representatives in Congress that is actually doing the job all are sworn to do: defending the Constitution, investigating abuses, and proposing legislation that serves the GENERAL welfare, not special interests. If the Democrats would take a few pages from his playbook I could get behind their candidates.

Now if only he hadn't been ignored, ridiculed, and slighted by the corporate-controlled media during the primary season, the Democrats may have had a real alternative candidate instead of another corporate lackey.

All you Band Wagon Strap-hangars don't know s**t from shinola...

Obama may be against the Iraq War, but he has no problem warring with Afghanistan, Pakistan, and who knows where else.

Remember he also said, in a moment of candor, that if he had been in the senate, he couldn't say how he would have voted for the war resolution.

They must serve Kool-aid on that Band Wagon!

Kucinich vs Obama?

I favoured Kucinich before he withdrew, and I admire the man hugely, but it was obvious he was never going to get the nomination. He may have been a worthy candidate, and he might make a fine president given the chance, but he could never have weathered the Rove/GOP/Fox hate machine like Obama or Clinton.

I think those of you who are using Kucinich to denigrate Obama and the Democrats in general are missing an important point. Politics is a subtle art. They gave him the spot for the speech. They knew what he was going to say. What does that indicate?

@lcantet

Salon is not deserving of your praise and Alex most certainly isn't. When Dennis Kucinich brought forward the 35 articles of impeachment against this criminal administration, Alex was first on the bandwagon to term this courageous act "not newsworthy." Alex also stated his opinion that Dennis Kucinich was a joke, or foolish, or weird. The exact term he used escapes me at this moment but it was derogatory at best.

When wondering why Dennis Kucinich did not get the attention he deserved during the primaries, you need look no further than this "liberal" blog, salon.com. The citizens of this country not only get the government they deserve, they get the media they deserve.
