Mary Matalin still sports a thin veneer of unwarranted respectability

If that could be stripped off, once and for all, I'd admit to no small degree of schadenfreude.

Libel

Why doesn't Obama hire some lawyers and start suing Corsi, his publisher, and every conservative broadcaster who repeats the lies for libel? Yes, Obama's a public figure, but a libel made with a reckless disregard for the truth is still actionable. I bet a few lawsuits would silence some of these idiots.

You wanna get Corsi?

For all those afraid that Obama is not prepared to fight back, remember Sean Connery's line from The Untouchables: "he pulls a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue--THAT'S THE CHICAGO WAY" Obama knows this, and Axelrod definitely knows it and lives it.

They'll put up with people calling him out for "playing old fashioned politics" but what they won't tolerate is someone getting the upper hand in the street fight that is the modern American presidential campaign.

Corsi, Matalin and....

It has been reported that Corsi was actually wiring another book about some alleged 9/11 conspiracies when he decided to shift his attention to Obama....

Could it be because he got money to do a hatchet job on Obama. One has to pay the bills after all!

And Mary Matalin (spouse of the ragin' Cajun who himself was supporting Hillary) against everybody else claims it is "serious scholarship"!

Corsi is not even for McInsane but for the nut-wing Constitution Party!

How low can you go as a respectable party when you are desperate?

First

Great that they are hitting back hard and fast.

Second, to concur with Ricardo Malocchio I do hope her connection to and profiting from this sort of trash is called out next time she shows up on Meet the Press or similar shows as a pundit. She is openly a partisan republican strategist and that is fine of course but profiteering from smear campaigns like this is beyond the pale.

Corsi a pretty incredible load of manure.

I just saw video of the guy on Larry King. He was explaining how his research had uncovered the fact that Obama was a "registered Muslim" when he attended school in Indonesia. He then referenced the fact that he had garnered this information not from examining originals or even copies of the school records. On, no, his "research" was attributions he found in Indonesian newspapers and on Indonesian television.

FABULOUS SOURCES, I must say. The official national language is Indonesian, closely related to Malay. Most Indonesians speak at least one of the several hundred local languages (bahasa daerah), often as their first language. Of these, Javanese is the most widely-spoken as the language of the largest ethnic group. There are 500 or more indigenous Papuan and Austronesian languages, and much of the older population can still speak a level of Dutch. So which of these languages were the Indonesian newspapers printed in, and who translated them for you???

Corsi then said it had been the "testimony" of the sources quoted in the Indonesian newspapers that Obama was a Muslim. Excuse me, Jerome, while I understand you're a pathetic manipulative assclown, the clearcut inplied meaning of "testimony" is that is occurs under oath and penalty of perjury. What ever second-hand hearsay bullshit you're lifting from Indonesian newspapers and putting in your crappy book is, TESTIMONY IT AIN'T.

Not really

John McCain, who's mostly supported immigration reform measures.

Actually, the last I heard, McCain said he would no longer vote in favor of his own immigration bill.

But it can be hard keeping up with his positions, they do change a lot.

Sooo....

Let's all just agree that every time a "fact" from the Corsi book is quoted or mentioned on teevee, we'll say, "Let's be serious. Corsi is just a hatchet-man who wrote a beeper book. That is not a valid source to cite for any credible information."

It kinda makes me sick that the forces at work here are willing to make a guy rich just for writing crappy books full of lies, but then, that really is the neocon way.

Sue the B^%$*@s!

I just wish that Obama would sue Corsi for defamation. That's the only think that will register with most people that what Corsi says are lies.

Yeah, I know that public figures have to prove actual malice. But, I think that would be easier to prove with a public figure. Corsi's record is one thing. And if they get him under oath for a deposition, they'll probably get all sorts of admissions that he hates Obama and is trying to destroy him.

I'm sorry, but arguing the facts just isn't going to be heard. Sue the b*&^$*&s!

Insane people

orsi is peaking to the "left behind", ignorant choir, who unfortunately are allowed to vote.

Obma's father and step father were Not even muslim, and if they were, so what.

Obama needs not only to defend himself, but point out the offensive hatred and prejudices against Muslims.

Right-wing freak show

If we had a healthy, functional media, this guy's work would be dismissed as laughable nonsense, unfit to warrant airtime. Instead, we actually have to be concerned that his fantasies may become accepted due to the lazy, credulous press. How depressing.

Thursday, August 14, 2008 03:17 PM

A smart move

If there is one thing we should have learned from the Kerry/Gore/Clinton debacles, it is that there is no charge so ridiculous that is can't be taken seriously by the right wing media, and from there spread into acceptance by the general public.

Thursday, August 14, 2008 03:21 PM

Corsi is officially trying to get Chuck Baldwin elected

bullshit. i notice he hasn't written a book trashing mccain. or even praising baldwin.

just cover for McCain to claim this trash has nothing to do with him or his campaign.

@bernbart

Obama's father was Muslim. So was his stepfather. Neither seems to have been particularly devout, but they were both born and raised Muslim and followed the religion at some points in their lives. Most Muslims, even devout Muslims, are very nice people who would never wish harm on anybody. You are correct that we need to get over this bias, but I don't think it's going to happen soon. Nonetheless, it's better to counter lies with truth, so I thought I'd put this out there in spite of the fact that somebody is likely to accuse me of attacking Obama by saying that his father was Muslim.
