He is a traitor.
Collin Powell is more of an american than your whole entire family.
Did you serve in the military during a time of war, did you devote your life to your country, just cause you were born here doesn't make you an american.
Ignorance like yours should be kept in private, do some research.
It is interesting that, in your mind, I am the person who needs to do research.
just cause you were born here doesn't make you an american.
Um, yes. It does. With a capital "A", even.
Life long devotion and service to our country were undermined when Powell lied to get us into an unnecessary war that killed thousands in the same uniform to enrich Bush and his cronies. I still don't understand how he could have done that – what a massive betrayal! Just following orders doesn't cut it either.

Priceless.
...has even a second for Crackpot Kristol?
He's totally right about Kristol though.
Cab305 said to melthough:"Did you serve in the military during a time of war...just cause you were born here doesn't make you an american (sic)."
Well, I DID serve in the armed forces during a time of war. As a veteran I feel it is my duty to publicly revoke your citizenship. You fail at patriotism and you fail at the basic understanding of what it means to be an American. (And BTW AMERICAN is capitalized you illiterate traitor.) Ignorance like yours should be publicly ridiculed. Small children should be instructed to point at you and laugh. Old ladies should be instructed to throw small stones at you. Failure. You are an utter failure.
And just so you know, I'd take one melthough over a platoon of the likes of you any day.
Excelsior!
Actually, it does.
His was the greatest fall. Remember the lead-up to the war, how he was always the counterpoint to the Three Stooges (Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld)? The reluctant hero, the nonpartisan warrior who genuinely wanted to avoid war.
That's what made his betrayal so poignant, so devastating. He had the credibility, the status, to make the underwhelming case for war seem legitimate (not to all of course). I remember reading a column the next day by Ellen Goodman, saying the content of the presentation didn't sway her but the solemn, distinguished messenger did. (It goes without saying that his reputation for integrity and nonpartisanship was the very reason he was chosen to make the international case. That he allowed himself to be used like this--that's the tragedy).
Shakespeare couldn't have written it better.
Bill Kristol? The fool. You know, that jackass put into plays for a bit of comic relief.
...though it's a sure bet he'll have to divide his time between almost all the pockets of the Eighth Circle, which is reserved for fraud and treachery.
...along with Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the whole wacky bunch.
Powell was the turkey who was punished for his doubts by being made to become the frontman for a whole crapload of lies and faked evidence.
Backstage he is reported to have said, "I can't read this -- this is bullshit!" but on-camera he was a good soldier who sold the U.S. public, and the international community, the entire load of feces.
As a result, millions of people are dead.
So go to hell, Powell. Even if you're right about Kristol.
The guy filming Powell's UN presentation failed to get the close up of Colin crossing his fingers behind his back. That would have made things clearer and saved Powell's place as a hero.
Yes, he was a man of principle. Yes, he was forced to compromise those principles in the service of one of the most unethical and authoritarian administrations in modern American history. However we're just now starting to see what a crazy funhouse the Bush administration is in terms of political pressure, backbiting, and making sure everyone down to the White House chef is on-message. Thus it doesn't entirely surprise me that a good man like Powell could lose his way in that environment, and it strikes me that he's one of the few that bent the least to Bush's demands before he got the hell out of Dodge. After his departure, Bush's cabinet was diminished as it contained even more people who only told him what he wanted to hear.
Generally I find Bill Kristol to be a goofball, as do most rational folks. However, I think this had at least some aspects of being a clever move.
You get the idea out there that Powell is going to endorse Obama. That way, if it happens, it's less of a bombshell b/c it's already been put "out there". It lessens the impact.
And if it doesnt happen, then the Repubs can try to spin it into a story: "Why won't Powell endorse Obama? What's so bad about Obama that Powell refuses to endorse him??"
(and the fact that Kristol made a prediction that turned out to be wrong? Well, add it onto the huge stack. One more won't make a difference. It's not like he'll lose his NYT or Fox jobs for being wrong - that's why they hired him in the first place.)
That was a pretty dumb post.
No more drunk emotional posting for me.
Thank you all, for a proper spanking, lol.
