Report: Bill Clinton to speak at convention

The decision is apparently intended to defuse talk of tension between the Clinton and Obama camps.

The letters thread is now closed.

There Should be a Hillary Clinton Vote at the Convention.

Voters all over the country voted for her. Her delegates will be there. We should insist that those who believe there are now in control, that is the Obama people including Howard Dean and Speaker Nancy Pelosi should realize it's good politics to let them (the Clinton Delegates) "speak" for us by casting the vote We the voters gave them.

If not, I consider that a problem.

If that were to happen (no Clinton floor vote), let me suggest that all Clinton duly elected delegates meet downtown Denver at some large public square, pass around an attendance roster, and record their votes. Local and national press will cover that and get the word out.

We would like to have that recorded. Thank you.

Why? Cats got Hellary's tongue?

One day, the Clintons and Obamas are being nasty to each other. Next day, they're all hugs and mutual support. Come on! Get real.

Who wants to hear what either Bill or Hellary have to say. I wish they would curl up with their trillions of dollars and stay away from the media. They are both old news.

Bill and Hillary

It is great to hear President clinton is going to speak,of course that should have been a given . He can speak without a telaprompter as does Hillary, without saying uh uh uh ,what I meant to say and all those other gaffes.

Although I wish he wouldn't speak on behalf of Obama after the way they tried to make him and Hillary a racist and Obama still not clearing this up or apoligising. his supporters like Jeffersonian are the kind of hate mongers that keep us from fully embracing OB because he does nothing to stio the sexism or the hatred ,actually mocking her supporters because they don't agreee. On the other hand hand Hillary shows respect to others even when working as a volunteer we were always told to not be negative.

so Iguess we will have to wait and see if Obama is big enough to really try to heal not just the clintons. for my part I still don't know if I will vote for him after the way he has handled things and changed his positions

I'll Take Angela To Block

A little too close to home, Angela from the (mental health) center? Bill brought derision upon himself, his wife, his party, and his country, but he's still head, shoulders, and nether regions above the fascists that are ruining this country. Speak on, big Bill. A great, and greatly flawed man, he most definitely deserves the chance to address the convention and the nation. I'll bet it'll be a real stemwinder. Ask your keepers if you can stay up that night, Angie. love, jeff

Bill is the only 2-term Dem president in 60 years.....

so you'd think this would be a given. Obama and both Clintons are great speakers and thinkers. Bill and Hillary Clinton will make a case for Obama better than anyone else could. They might even put some meat into his policies!

And let us hope they get the welcoming reception they so richly deserve - this could help heal the party, which is greatly needed.

After all, Hillary Clinton has higher approval ratings among Dems than Obama, according to the New York Times this week - something like 70% to 66%.

Given the fact that she also received essentially half the votes in the primaries, even though the party, Obama and the media were savaging her and demanding she drop out from the very first primaries, she deserves the admiration and respect of those who tried to push her out to give the establishment candidate (Obama) the nomination.

As it stands, I'll vote for Obama, but I don't trust him. I never have, and his actions have proven that mistrust to be appropriate. He will probably get my vote, but frankly, he still has to earn it.

This was the moment when we could have brought a true progressive agenda into being, and the DNC, Obama and the media destroyed that.

I hope we will feel what it could have been like when we hear the Clintons at the convention. Theirs is the real inspiration, the real vision and the real new energy we have been waiting for.

Maybe Bill IS the running mate!

Constitutionally a person who is not elligable to be elected President cannot be elected Vice President.

I will be a wonderful change to hear at least two (Barak Obama and Bill Clinton) eloquent speakers at the convention.

We will be treated to full subject-verb-object sentences.

A coherent thought will be expressed within each paragraph.

Words will be pronounced correctly (and I am not talking about accents here, since both George W. Bush and Bill Clinton have a slight "twang").

At the end of the speech we will know what the speaker's points were, and campaign aides will not have to fan out and tell everyone, "the candidate does not necessarily speak for the campaign".

It will be a delight.

Let's hope his

zipper is in the up position. An argument can be made to whether anyone is actually qualified to give a speech at the Democratic Convention...

@Mike LeP

Ah how sweet it is.

Jeb

I'm relishing her angst. It will make my vote this fall even sweeter.

can we block Jeffersonian?

there isn't any reason to be that offensive. It makes no sense. I hope any future posts by jeffersonian will be blocked.

Rational discussion isn't what he is doing. Perhaps Foxx news could use him.

@jeb

Just get over jeb and you'll be okay.

Good Idea

Bill Clinton at the convention will help Obama and will help the party to heal. He is still one of the best speakers and chrismatic politicians. Bill will draw more people to view the convention which is a good thing for the Democratic party.

@ jeb

Actually, I do worry - and am pissed off - about Obama's reversals on telecom immunity, domestic spying, etc. Sorry it doesn't fit your Obama-supporter caricature, but I've never believed he was without flaws. But he was, and still is, the best choice for the job.

BTW, thanks for the laugh - you, the diehard Hillary supporter, are telling me to "get over it"?
