Still strong-willed for Hill

Things get nasty with Clinton supporters still fuming about the primary, but a chance for a summertime dinner under the stars with their favorite former front-runner could cool tempers.

The letters thread is now closed.

Hillary Clinton dead enders ...

... need to drink a tall, warm glass of STFU. Your chosen candidate lost - boo hoo. This happens every election cycle and there's nothing special or unique about Hillary except for her gender, which would be far more impressive in an "overcoming obstacles" sort of way had her entire campaign not been run on the reflected glory of her husband.

There are graver injustices in this world and you folks need a hobby.

Doing Karl's work for him.

The official (Dick Morris himself) spin from FoxNews is that Hillary Clinton, through her vast political powers, will engineer the defeat of Barak Obama in 2008 so she can be elected in 2012.

Of course, no one on Fox mentions that, if she is so all-powerful, why didn’t she just get the nomination herself, particularly in a year when she would be facing off against John McCain?

All these reports of spite are the mainstream media echoing White House (Rove) talking points, to echo throughout the country and help inaugurate John McCain as president in 2009.

By adding themselves to this Rightwing echo chamber, Salon is continuing to do its duty as part of John McCain’s Base.

It's funny ...

It's funny how we never hear about all the Giulliani supporters who've thrown their support behind Obama, now that McCain has grabbed the Republican nomination thanks to nasty campaigning, undemocratic primaries, and media bias.

No, the Republican Party never ever has troubles worth (over-)reporting on.

There is something special about Hillary Clinton

She got nearly 50% of the vote even though the media and her opponent attacked her constantly. How many Presidential primary candidates did that in recent years? You may want to ignore that because you'd rather Obama had gotten the landslide that you feel he deserved, but it happened. It was real. And a lot of us aren't going to forget it. She earned a spot as VP. In all likelihood, she won't get it, but she earned it. A lot of people who didn't watch Olbermann and Kossacks lying and distorting everything she or her supporter's said think that Obama's campaign smeared her unfairly aren't going to forget that, either. You want our vote, you give us something. Otherwise, you don't get it. Tit for tat, so to speak. You may think you don't need our vote, because you are arrogant enough to believe that Obama is immune from right wing attacks. In your bubble world he is destined to be President and no Republican can stand up to the power of Obama - but a lot of people didn't buy that idea during the primary, and they aren't going to develop a taste for kool-aid this late in the game.

@bearpaw1

Actually, Obama's support among Democrats is about the same as McCain's support among Republicans. Somehow this is being spun as overwhelming Democratic support for Obama among Democrats and major divisions among Republicans over Mccain. Giuliani supporter's will probably vote for McCain, because they perceive him to be a moderate the same way they perceived Giuliani to be a moderate. Truth has no place in modern American politics.

On Hillary

I am an unabashed Obama supporter. I would welcome Hillary as Veep. What I do not understand is PUMAs or anyone who is defecting to McCain.

If Hillary had won, I would never consider McCain. America means too much. The world means too much.

On another post their is a list of potential Veeps. I am very disappointed Hillary isn't there. But I have high hopes she is on a list for something big, very big. Like Supreme Court Justice.

Oops.

Make that "there is a list" I hate it when people make the error of "their" and "there" and I did it myself. Sorry.

Actually, I think you're making shit up. Again.

Show me where you get those supposedly equal support numbers, and show me examples of that supposed spin.

Good luck trying to understand them

I checked out the PUMA Pac website, which posts a long series of anti-deadender emails (worth the read), and then I went on to read some of the voluminous comments that follow. Good luck understanding any of the self-annointed PUMAs! Here's a sample comment with a religious angle that makes W look almost sane:

"33 years ago I had a vision~~It was of the end of life as we know it. And I have been watching events unfold in the exact same procession since then, most notably with the explosion of Mt St Helens. But economically and socially as well. Watching Obama’s rise sends chills up and down my spine with the premonition that this may, indeed, be the False Prophet. According to the Mayan, Totec, Navajo and other native calendars and prophecies, the world as we know it will end on Dec 21, 2012. I’ve seen absolutely no reason to dispute that in all these 33 years since I was first blessed with the vision. Now is the time for the best of us to create our greatest good. Believe me, it WILL have an affect on the outcome."

"Earning" the Veep spot, re: jebdelum

Simply by coming in (a close) second, one does not "earn" a V.P. spot. The last time I can recall the primaries being this close was actually 1976, when Ted Kennedy almost took out sitting-President Carter. Kennedy was not chosen as the V.P., but went on to a long(er), productive Senate career, where he accomplished, arguably, more than he ever could of in four to eight years in the oval office. I foresee a similar career path for Hillary, which would be no shame or smear on her abilities whatsoever.

@bearpaw1

Actually, I got the numbers off of a post my Markos Moulitsas yesterday on Daily Kos, along with the pro-Obama spin. I got the "McCain is not loved by Republicans" spin right here on Salon.

As for paying down Hill's debt:

I posted it in HuffPo and I'll post it here:

As soon as I hear Mark Penn and company give up their $4+ million claim for "consulting fees", I will immediately send in my $5.
