Jesse Jackson's Obama gaffe: Does it matter?

Fox News hypes off-mike negative comments by Jackson about Obama's attitude toward the responsibilities of black men. It's hard to imagine this hurts Obama.

The letters thread is now closed.

Apparently Jackson siad something about the size of his balls being challenged by Obama in the black community.

Jackson hasn't been really all that relevant to the black community for quite some time. He still serves as a black talking head on television because people as clued in to the goings on within the black community as Sean Hannity, some how think that Jackson is still a public figure of some powerful presence amongst blacks, which is pretty passe to anybody outside the media establishment. If Jesse is insecure about his balls I'd suggest some kind of silicone replacement. Anyway, here's another Fox News flap, from the home of crap.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 02:47 PM

What did Jackson Say?

I believe it may be too crude to air on TV. What a jackass. I want to slap him. The nerve of this hack criticizing Obama for taking on one of the biggest challenges facing the black community. Thanks Jesse!

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:03 PM

Didn't Glenn Greenwald write today that Obama's nuts had already been cut off? Or was it simply words to that effect?

Anyway, I think Jesse Jackson has left his home in Hymietown, to be nearer to his illegitimate daughter in LA, where he'll have to start all over extorting corporate contributions to the Rainbow/PUSH coalition ...

So yeah, if his black "constituents" haven't fired Jackson yet, this little episode won't do it. Of course, it isn't likely to make a difference in this campaign whether Jesse Jackson found a cure for cancer*, or was found guilty of a felony. Southside politicians like Jesse Jackson Jr., Obama, Bobby Rush, etc., usually get about 112% of the Black vote anyway.

*Did Obama actually discover the cure for cancer while a student at Columbia? Or is that next week's photo-op?

Shamity

I bet Hal Turner snuggled up with Hannity on the couch to watch the video.

JESSE JACKSON? WHAT A FARCE!

To Whomever:

I would rather take True Wisdom from an HIV Positive crack whore from ANY nationality, transgender or not?

If Anyone is willing to stand-up and say, "Every Crime (Sin) committed is an act of Selfishness and Every act of Selfishness is a Crime (Sin)." I am on-board with that person! If they even take IT (Truth), one step further and say "10 Commandments are not cutting it, 613 Laws of the Torah are not cutting it and the Koran?" I am on board!

Jesse Jackson? can only aspire to become a HIV Positive crack whore! Transgendered or not, maybe?

Universal Love, Knowledge, Truth, Understanding and Wisdom

Yama

Freedom without responsibility to others can only lead to Chaos!

Jesse, teach the correct message and everyone will be on-board!

Please FOX, please

run away with this incident, since it actually serves to DISTANCE Barack from Jackson and HELPS Barack appear more accountability-oriented than Jackson - all for the viewers of Fox no less.

Yer professional shucker/jiver checks in

shuckin' 'n' jivin' as usual.

This will help Obama. We do NOT want Jesse Jackson or any Professional Black Whiner in the White House.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:23 PM

well...

of course Fox is going to make a big deal out of it...but that doesn't that anyone should follow suit. Just a gaffe...and it wasn't even by the CANDIDATE.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:29 PM

What is Obama "taking on"?

Obama's not taking on anything. He was just speechifying as usual. In the case in question, I think Jackson was talking about Obama chanelling his inner Bill Cosby and lecturing black men on Father's Day from a church pulpit.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:34 PM

@KStone

And what's your investment in that battle? Just curious...

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:35 PM

"We" who?

"We do NOT want Jesse Jackson or any Professional Black Whiner in the White House."

I'm sure you are going to stand guard in front of the WH door and screen for acceptable Negros. Anyway, while you may feel that Obama is your personal Pet Negro, in reality he walks in the footsteps of people like Jackson Sr. who was opening doors while Obama was doing drugs in grad school.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:40 PM

@AlecsMom

What "battle"?

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:46 PM

@KStone

The battle you clearly feel you have no stake in or you wouldn't ask.

The black community has faced destruction from within for far too long. Lamenting what Big Gov won't do for you isn't going to fix the problem. It's going to take an honest assessment of ourselves, our strengths and weaknesses. Obama did that, publicly. I knew there would be some flack but I'm still shocked to hear one of those voices being Jesse jackson. It's disgraceful for a lot of reasons but mostly because he knows damn well that what Obama says is true.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:51 PM

@Alecsmom

It's not a "battle" that requires "investment". It's a complex social issue that requires nuanced thought and well considered solutions rather than platitudes and speechifying.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:54 PM

If any nuts are lopped off....

...it should be for caving on FISA.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:55 PM

Just askin'

How much did Obama's staff pay Jackson to drop this Sister Souljah bomb into the bunker of Faux News?

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:57 PM

Professional Black Whiners

are not acceptable.

Nope, Jesse "Hymietown" Jackson is not helpful. Nor is Al "Tawana" Sharpton. And, no, I don't think Obama owes them much. The professional black whiner, still wearing his chains, and complaining about the treatment of his great-great-great-great-grandfather six times removed, is a repugnant figure.

I am not interested in listening to these jokers. Jackson's sad little story has been told. He should sit down and shut up. He has nothing of value to contribute.

If Professional Black Whiners like Jackson or Sharpton or any other Professional Black Person can reduce Obama to being a Black politician, Obama is not going to be elected. We white guys do not want to listen to that blackness crap anymore.

If you want Obama elected, DO NOT reduce him to being MERELY BLACK. That's a loser for sure.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 03:59 PM

Inner Bill Cosby

"Jackson was talking about Obama chanelling his inner Bill Cosby and lecturing black men on Father's Day from a church pulpit."

Hey, good idea.

With about 80 % of the black babies being born to single moms, a WHOLE BUNCH MORE BLACK GUYS should listen to Cosby.

There is a lot of pathology in the black family today, and somebody needs to remind people that 80 % of single moms is NOT a good thing.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 04:00 PM

@ed

You know, I think that it distracts from the FISA debacle; Look, a gaffe that works IN FAVOR of the candidate

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 04:01 PM

@KStone

Frankly, it sounds like you didn't even listen to Obama's speech. He addressed a number of big issues like investment in jobs and education (my big issue), but he took it further. He also spoke to the need for personal accountability, instilling strong values in our children, and of course, black fathers reclaiming their roles as parents and role models. Perhaps that seems unimportant to you. I think it is one of the most critical issues facing the black community today and I applaud Obama for bringing it to the fore. More black leaders need to do that.
