A place called Unity

On Friday, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton made their first public campaign appearance together, in a place laden with symbolism.

The letters thread is now closed.

ICONIC ONLY OF DIVISION

Oh, are our votes supposed to be for SALE now?

I think not.

Everything I have seen in the press about Obama since he appeared on the scene is incrementally less reassuring.

That and the lack of experience that made us reject him on Day One has not exactly given him any credibility since. No to mention his bad judgement ever on display.

I will not vote for Obama . I will not vote for McCain. Either way I'd be squandering my vote.

How is the least of two Bad Ideas supposed to fix anything? Why would it.

I challenge the Obamabots to come up with anything Obama's said that is not an average opportunistic hologram of a campaign promise - except for the one's he hasn't already broken. Whenever he's had a chance to act on what he's said, he simply hasn't. He defaults to convenient. Each and every time.

It takes a real piece of work to be breaking campaign promises before he's even been nominated.

Why ever would you want to vote for what Obama has already shown?

If he is this iconic of division and consistent easiest way out now- the legacy of a lifetime's accretion of entitlement-- Congress will only treat him like a marshmallow at a campfire. Why would they do otherwise?

I will write in Hillary Clinton on my ballot as my choice of presidential candidate.

I am not going to be responsible for colluding in the folly of having to choose between such an inadequate pair of candidates

This is why

I hate politicians.

Bush treated McCain dishonestly and horribly during the primaries. Obama treated Bill dishonestly and horribly during the the primaries. So instead of Bill kicking Obama in the nuts or McCain kicking Bush in the nuts at the first opportunity, they look for the first opportunity to kiss each others asses in places called "unity".

Man the stench is overwhelming.

PUMA

Obama can keep forcing her to appear with him. He can try to ride her coattails. His flipflops, lies, and complete lack of credibility on foreign policy is still there.

Not voting Obama. No WAY!

Great, you'll write in Hillary Clinton. Since you seem to reiterate the same thing over and over - that no one can persuade you differently - what is your point in coming and posting here?

My point in coming here is a) to see those who are on the fence and to try to win them over and b) to spot those who are clearly Republican trolls and call them out. Your goal seems to be to go down with the ship (writing in your vote on a candidate who lost? Bon chance). Are you really looking to encourage others to join you in that? Because, if so, you're basically the same as a Republican troll and will be treated as such.

Hillary puts it on the line.

"And to anyone who voted for me and is now considering not voting or voting for Senator McCain, I strongly urge you to reconsider. I urge you to remember who we are standing for in this election... [T]hat's why I'm standing with Senator Obama today, because I know he'll work for you, he'll fight for you, and he'll stand up for you every single day in the White House."

As far as I'm concerned, this should be the last direct appeal.

Anyone who still puts their hurt feelings and/or loyalty to Hillary ahead of what she has actually asked them to do -- not to mention putting those feelings ahead of the best chance to actually get some of her ideas implemented -- is beyond reach.

...and for example

Dakinikat... clear Republican troll. Please return to the other freepers.

Unity?

A place called bitter.

@ stevio

Oh, leave off, willya?

Friday, June 27, 2008 12:19 PM

Obama and Hillary....TOGETHER??!!

No, this just can't be...There was just WAY TOO MUCH animosity during the primaries! The party is just TOO DIVIDED! There's no way this can be really happening...Can this be the solution to finally UNITE THE PARTY??? ONCE AND FOR ALL?? In UNITY, New Hampshire of all places!

Oh this is just TOO PERFECT! People coming tother AS ONE!

"We are the world....We are the children...."

BLECHH!

Staged from Day One.

Just so you'll know

I and many others I know are planning on writing in Hillary's name on the ballot this November, as well. I may be 'wasting' my vote as you say, however, someone will know how I feel. I cannot in good conscience vote for McCain or obama. I have spoken with business people and friends in five states that all plan to do the same. It may be a long shot fantasy, but wouldn't it be something if our girl took the election with a write in vote? I would believe in justice again.

Friday, June 27, 2008 12:44 PM

Oh brother

We have a great event for the party and all the freaking bottom feeders and trolls show up to rail on it. Surprise surprise.

Yes, I'm sure he 'forced' her to show up.

Sure our votes are for 'sale'.

Blah blah blah.

If you truly supported Hillary Clinton, she has told you exactly what she thinks and has asked you to support the party nominee. That is how it goes and the expectation would be the same if the tables were turned. From here on out there is no way that you can justify this PUMA bullshit or the write-in campaign - Hillary Clinton doesn't want your vote. She want you to support the party as she is doing. She has denounced the idea of and requested that none of her supporters vote McCain.

Her wishes are clear. You are free to respect or not respect her wishes but don't disrespect her with your childish antics.

lilybean

How would that be justice. Hillary has asked you to support the nominee. You don't believe her? You won't respect her wishes and take her at her word? Why should she want your vote?

She may have felt some pressure from the party - but she did not have to support Obama. She certainly doens't have to campaign for him. Sure it would cost her if she didn't - in terms of power in the party but if she really thought he was the wrong choice I would hope she would have the integrity to speak her mind and not support him. do you think she has that kind of integrity? It would be a great paradox if you believed she didn't mean it and yet thought it was still that important to write her in. Get it?
