Cindy McCain, cookie thief? The wife of the presumptive GOP nominee has been accused of recipe plagiarism -- again -- but that only provokes a larger question: Why is anyone asking a potential first lady for recipes?
The letters thread is now closed.
  • Btw, here's a good article about it from back when..

    http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1994-09-08/news/opiate-for-the-mrs

    Great First Lady potential.. sure.

  • @Citizenstx

it is pretty bizarre to imagine that public figures are spending their free time in the kitchen whipping up original recipes.

    Why?

God forbid our Public Figures take some time off from saving the world from all things evil and do some of the things that "normal" people do, like cooking. How bizarre.

  • Why?

Why is Alex writing about such a moronic topic?

Why does Alex feel the need to post one of his moronic videos about this moronic topic?

Could it be that Alex is a moron? Let's go to the tape . . .

    (viewing Alex's moronic video)

Yes folks, that proves it, Alex is a moron!

    48 days and counting . . . .

  • That is the whole point: 'Normalcy' and Authenticity

That's the whole point of this, IM!HO. The need to manufacture an identity for Cindy McCain that appears 'normal' and 'authentic' when her normal life is very different than most people. Just like the last post where we puzzled over her tax rate and use of her AmEx card. She's a women of considerable means and has more control over her time than most. Maybe she doesn't like to cook. She should just come clean then.

  • If Cindy McCains cookies...

were as light and fluffy as this story, I'd buy a batch.

War Room has more hot air than my convection oven, and Koppleman is half-baked.

  • Yeah it really isn't plagerism

but it would be nice to hear someoen own up that they don't like to cook or that when they do they use recipes from books or online. Who hasn't? Almost all recipes are borrowed or passed down from somewhere.

I know this is all about weird throw back notions of domesticty- but I can't resist being curious- what was Bill Clinton's cookie?

Yes, I agree. Like I said, she is (they are) bluedbloods and can relate little to Joe Everyman, so they fake it by releasing a ridiculous "Cindy McCain Cookbook" with a bunch of recipes that are obviously not hers, but were lifted from the food network and the likes of Rachael Ray. It is indicative of the fraud that is the McCains and is another example of the GOP Myths that Gleen Greenwald wrote about in GAH.

What I think is most amusing though, is that another GOP candidate released a real cookbook (and does so yearly) before McCain did, and all I saw was an attempt to try and steal the idea and maybe some of his thunder. Ron Paul. Except Dr. Paul's wife actually cooks and has real family recipes.

  • THIS is newsworthy!

Kucinich and his impeachment articles? Not so much.

    I see.

    Okay.

    Right.

    Got it.

  • J E Draft

Here's the link to the Salon Kucinich impeachment articles. I think the last one was on Monday.

You were "really" interested in them, right?

  • @-- kickstarts

Yeah, I read it and and you obviously didn't. You didn't frigging read Koppelman's down-the-nose dismissal of it as "Not Newsworthy," DIDJA???? Of Kucinich as a punchline, DIDJA???

THAT is what I'm commenting on.

    And YOU can bite me.

  • @kaweahdave

"The rules of decorum forbid me from giving away the family brownie recipe, but let's just say it's not any more respectable."

Where did you get the recipe?

    High Times?

...who got it from Alice B. Toklas.

  • pot brownies

Alex always looks and sounds like he ate a bunch the previous day.
