Get ready for the attacks on Michelle Obama

Conservatives are already trying to paint Barack Obama's wife as bitter and anti-American.

The letters thread is now closed.

If there IS a Michelle Obama "whitey" tape, then it is going to be a HUGE story.

For the simple reason that Barack denied it.

Some People Hate Strong Women

Elanore Roosevelt, Nancy Regan, Hillary Clinton, they all got the nastiness of nasties spoken against them.

Didn't hurt their husbands any though.

Hmmm...maybe it's not a big problem to be the strong woman behind a great man.

Any one want to start the discussion of Michelle Obama in 2016? Or perhaps 2024, you know after her time serving as Senator from New York.

It's a funny little world some times ain't it.

The "whitey" tape

Elephantman said:

It looks highly doubtful that such a tape exists. There are two reasons it's doubtful off the top of my head: 1) the tape hasn't surfaced so far; and 2) the republicans have a history of making up this kind of stuff (which must really make you proud, Elephatman).

So, Elephantman, let's look at the corollary of your claim that this could be a huge story if the tape exists. If the tape turns out not to exist, how big a story do you think this will be?

More importantly, does it bother you at all that your party needs to rely so heavily on making stuff up to appear to be worthy of someone's vote? I mean, if they're such a better choice for governing, as I assume you believe, shouldn't they just be able to explain that TRUTHFULLY and win that way? No? Why not?

Michelle

"worked her way up from modest childhood roots to reach Harvard Law School" with a little help from her friends Affirmative Action and white racial guilt.

ooooo.....can't wait for that!

While the Obama campaign brilliantly spins the flak into a long-standing right wing hatred of strong women, womens' right and women's equality and draws a stark contrast to Cindy whose only job is to stand there as a distraction so you don't spend too much time actually looking at the half-dead John McLame.

It may end up being one way for Obama to organically inject women's rights issues into the general without it looking like pandering and win back the feminazis.

Mrs. McCain

Cindy McCain is a drug addict, apparent thief (monies taken from charities to feed said addiction), and c*nt and trollop (according to her own husband).

Michelle seems all right to me.

Michelle is Disgusting.

Michelle Obama is disgusting and what she said should never be forgotten. She wasn't proud of this country until she started wanting people to put her unqualifed husband in the White House.I detest both of them they would be a disgrace in the White House. I never thought I'd see this country get so low as to have an Obama or Old man McCain the only choices for president. What in the heck are you people thinking? We need a world leader not some old man or a little headed bigeared all talk no substance less than one term senator to lead this country.I'll bet that 90% of the young people supporting Obama have a maxed out credit card a car not paid for and if they have a house they owe more than it's worth which shows bad judgment and bad management and you want these people picking the nominee?Neither McCain or Obama are qualified to be president and neither will get my vote.

Ok, it's a start, but...

Interesting that this is buried in War Room (rather than front and center as an article) and interesting that it had to come from a man.

Would Joan, or Traister or the Broadsheet folks talk about sexism if it doesn't specifically involve Hillary?

Let's see some fleshed out Salon articles, front and center, that talk about sexism.*

Let's see some of the FEMALE feminist outrage focused on Samantha Power's bums rush, and Michelle Obama, and the dozens of other feminist issues out there.*

(* besides, of course -- big sigh -- Hillary, if at all possible?)

The Bogus Video

This story was debunked on June 6 by Talking Poinst Memo. You can read it here: http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/06/power_broker.php

You might want to note that the video story is false and taken from a work of fiction any time you mention it. Otherwise like the false story that War Room reported on this morning about Obama's religion, you're just repeating lies that then make their way into the mass consciousness. I'm not surprised that Maureen Dowd would mindlessly repeat bogus stories, but I expect a little more from Salon.

While Michelle is under attack for some BS (cuz there's no tape)

Obama coolly says:

I'm not surprised at these attacks by the republicans. They have a long history of failure when it comes to women's rights and an apparent disdain for strong women. I think this type of attack on Michelle is indicative of a larger problem of sexism in our society...a society in which women who are vocal and expressive and strong and opinionated are demonized. I expect they'll continue to try to take any comments she makes out of context. But Michele is smart and can handle herself. I have absolute confidence that she can handle herself quite nicely.

(it doesn't have to BE about sexism, this is where the spin comes in)

ronaldraygun

spoken by someone who couldnt even get into college.

I had to listen to charges like this at my own university made by ignorant racists like you. Depsite my way above average SAT scores, I was deemed a product of Affirmative Action. I got to sit and watch my white friends party all weekend instead of studying because they knew they could get friends and sorority sisters to take their exams in their stead since the prof wouldn't notice the switch.

Affirmative action doesn't give you 3.8 GPA or a degree. And for a lot of us, it didn't even guarantee admission. Good thing I had good scores. I DID get rejection letters from other colleges.

You're ignorant.

Since John McCain has already publicly called his fembot wife a "trollop" and a "cunt" (I didn't call her that), I don't much see what he can call Michelle Obama that will be any worse.

Note to Elephantman: give it up.

What's good for the goose is good for the goose

This whole phony emphasis on the wives of the candidates is balderdash. The GOP is so desperate that they are exposing their sleeziest angles earlier and earlier. I hope that the American people display a bit more sophistication this election cycle. The Republicans are played out and cannot make a sound case against Obama based on the issues.

Does the GOP really want to get into a bracing round of "investigative articles" about Cindy McCain's pre-marital affair, her father's brewery millions, her drugs, her thievery, and her hidden tax returns?

I'll take Michelle Obama's professional ambition, intellectual drive and curiosity, her powerful analytic abilities, her dynamic persona harnessed to a sharp wit, and her evident strengths as a parent and spouse over the Stepford Wife any day of the week.
