Quote of the day

Fox's E.D. Hill says Barack and Michelle Obama's "fist bump" wasn't reminiscent of terrorists after all.

America's Favorite Pastime

Watching a baseball game the other day I kept thinking, "Are these guys terrorists?" They kept doing that fist bump thing every time they did something good. Then I watched the NBA playoffs and those guys did it, too, whenever one of them went to the foul line to make a shot or knocked down a three point shot. I suppose football players do it too, after a fashion. They knock each other down, help each other up, and then slap each other on the ass. Just like politics. Still, it's all very suspicious and needs looking into. My analysis is that we all, as a nation of ersatz patriot celebrants, have become the very thing we abhor. Now that's terrorism at its most insidious.

Your old Kit bag

Fox News ought to go back to the farm. They don't have enough to do! And poor dears; their hopelessly restricted brains are so busy, you know, xeroxing their scripts from Channel Rove.

Even her "apology" was BS

E.D. Hill claimed in her non-apologetic apology that she was just quoting what others in the media have said, but a Google search and a Lexis-Nexis search reveal *no one* in the media ever used the phrase "terrorist fist jab" before her.

Fox News knows it can't get away with being so blatantly anti-Obama. Their goal is to be more Trent Lott and less Daniel Carver. Hill went too far for management's tastes, and now she has lost her show. Good riddance.

Xrandadu

You're already my greatest (male) friend here, whether you realize it or not (well, I love CeliaInSF too). That was hilarious!

Email me at cardsharq@gmail.com, and I'll give you my real email address. You're a real kindred spirit!

I hate these kind of carefully parsed non-"apologies"

The type that put all the responsibility on those who interpret a comment in the way it was clearly intended, or at least the way any reasonable person would receive it. Hill knew exactly what she was doing and her half-baked "apology" is far more offensive than the original comments. But I've got to laugh at FOX News for firing Hill - all she did was distribute the same propaganda as every other "journalist" on that station in a slightly more hamfisted and unintentionally funnier way.

"terrorism" and fist-bumping

WordNet 3.0 from Princeton Univ. defines "terrorism" this way: "the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear."

Since Fox News and the rest of the Republican noise machine specializes in "instilling fear," it would seem to me they could all be classified as terrorists, fist bumping or no fist bumping.

Thanks

for the correction.

I guess it's good she lost her prime time slot

but isn't Laura Ingraham a total whackaloon too? I haven't listned in years but when I was younger with a stronger stomah I'd listen too talk radio. Isn't Ingraham a proponent of such bold intitatives like reversing women's suffrage? Or am I thinking of another, right-wing whackaloon?

@banyantree - She didn't lose her job, but...

she did lose her show.

From the Huffinton Post:

"TVNewser reports that E.D. Hill, who hosts "America's Pulse" — and who raised many eyebrows this week after calling Barack and Michelle Obama's fist-pound a "terrorist fist jab" — has lost her show:

America's Pulse anchored by E.D. Hill goes away, but Hill stays with the network in a capacity to be determined. Hill has been with FNC since 1998."

The half-wit lost her show

She'll be replaced by Laura Ingraham. That's gotta hurt.

I guess I shouldn't be shocked

at fox news taking a display of affection and distorting it through their lense that makes anyone who is not a wing-nut either a pervert or a terrorist. I was still taken aback though. Takes a real special kind of nut-job to find evil in an innocent gesture. Projection I guess.

Sharon Stone has a news show now?

Gotta love the way she's set up so you can see her legs. If she uncrossed them, it really would be a show. She'd probably say, "What are you going to do, charge me with journalism?" Oh Sharon Stone, you crazy Fox-News anchor!

@Event Horizon

"Yes, it was so cute to watch wasn't it? An immature gesture from a naive candidate. "

Ah, another dishonest rightist. Even the most truthiness-challenged among you should have noticed that he was responding to Michelle's overture. I suppose, in your meager little world, he should have brushed her aside with disdain, or perhaps slapped her for being uppity? Isn't that how you people handle those situations?

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 03:23 PM

I certainly didn’t mean to associate the word...

"terrorist" in any way with Barack Obama. No, I sure didn't mean any of that. Nope. Not me. Why, that would be crass and unforgivable, like associating the words "lying piece of partisan crap" in any with E.D. Hill. I would never ever ever do that.

FOX FIRED HER

Found article on Huffington.

SPEEDBUMP

Yes, it was so cute to watch wasn't it? An immature gesture from a naive candidate. Perhaps this will usher in a new era of fist bumping politicians and world leaders. I can imagine the UN General Assembly declaring the world would be a safer place if we all could just 'bump together'. No, whats really sad here, is the apology for speculating in the first place. God forbid someone, somewhere might take offense! And offense they will take. After all, this is Barack Obama, the next mainstream media elected president of the United States. The election is over. All thats left is for someone to drive that stretch Prius limo up to the White House, and drop him off......

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 03:18 PM

Sen. Osama

"I certainly didn’t mean to associate the word terrorist in any way with Osama and his Muslim religion."

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 02:59 PM

What planet has she been living on?...

It's just a more up-to-date version of giving someone dap, giving them some skin, high-fiving them. I strongly recommend she remove her head from her dumb a*s.

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 02:59 PM

I certainly didn't mean to call them terrorsists

Even though I just kinda did, get it?

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 02:59 PM

A blue frock?

A summer shift? A terrorist hijab? The dress everyone seems to interpret differently. We'll show you some interesting fashions and find out what it really is!"

Tuesday, June 10, 2008 02:57 PM

I wave the BS flag

You knew exactly what you were doing Hill. Good thing you are on Fox and can keep your pathetic job.
