Clinton asks supporters to raise money for Obama

Hillary Clinton has reportedly asked her finance committee to shift gears; advisors estimate she can help Obama pull in at least $50 million.

The letters thread is now closed.

If that's really their "focus"...

...they probably just keep their money (which would likely be almost all canceled out by her debt, anyway).

So will Clinton speak up...

and remind her contributors her campaign has said, "While Senator Clinton has made clear throughout this process that she will do whatever she can to elect a Democrat to the White House, she is not seeking the vice presidency, and no one speaks for her but her. The choice here is Senator Obama's and his alone." Not to mention blackmail of Obama by her supporters reflects poorly on her?

As for her $30 million debt, a previous War Room letter made an excellent point: If all of those 18 million of her adoring supporters would pony up less than $2 each, her debt would vanish. Or is the real issue more about punishing Obama than retiring her debt?

$2 per person makes total sense

Hillary says she can help Obama raise $50M.

With the $50M raised, she wants the VP slot and money to settle her campaign debt.

Maybe she should just raise the money she needs and leave the man alone.

The best advice Hillary Clinton has gotten in over a year

With her political career in shambles I will give her the best advice she has gotten all to help salvage what's left.

1.) Come out and unequivocally state you don't want nor would she accept the VP spot if offered. Why? because she voted for the war and that disqualifies ANYONE who might be Obama's running mate.

2.) Endorse Obama in the strongest terms possible, no strings attached this time.

3.) Stop asking Obama to pay off her debt.

4.) Come to grips with the fact that she lost to a better candidate.

Contrary to what some of the Hillary supporters think about me from my posts I like Hillary Clinton a lot and thought she would make the best president of anyone in the field early on. Obama slowly won me over with his policy positions (very similar to Hillary), his judgment on the war (better than Hillary) and most other issues, his excellent speaking skills and most of all he has the courage not to talk down to the American people. Obama has the potential to best president since Roosevelt (take your pick).

Hillary on the other hand lost me when she fell behind and decided instead of making the case that she was the right one for the presidency she instead decided to damage the Democratic front-runner and blackmail the party into letting her continue her campaign, forcing the front runner to fight her instead of taking on McCain, to the great advantage of McCain. If she cannot be the Democratic President then she would make sure there would not be a Democratic President. That was and is unforgivable! This election is not about Hillary or Obama, its about putting this nation back on the right track and McCain will not do that.

4.) She and Bill need to go to New York and try to mend fences with the voters SHE has alienated by trying to get McCain elected.

Help me with the math...

HRC's campaign continued spending other peoples money that they didn't really have. They went 30 million in debt to continue a campaign that was statistically dead. They have donors that will supposedly raise 50 million for Obama's, while asking them to help her retire the 30 million in debt. Now we are supposed to be proud of her for her tenacity and courage in this race.

Can anyone tell me why she should have wasted 30 million dollars of donors money?

This gives new meaning to quitting while you are ahead.

My last dime....

The Democratic party has received its last dime from me. Just like the Supremes installed Bush, the DNC installed Obama. My attitude about this election: Frankly Scarlet....

"her political career in shambles" . . .

is a pretty silly statement.

I believe she is "only" $19 Million in debt

The other $11 Million was her own money.

Chicanery, Inc.

I know we're not supposed to find fault, question, or critique anything Clintonish, but still...

they asked Dean to tell the Obama campaign "how very focused they are on Hillary being on the ticket."

Clinton advisors estimate that she could help Obama raise between $50 million and $100 million, perhaps more if she were on the ticket.

Those big donors realize they don't get to walk so tall in the Obama campaign, yes? I find it creepy they say they're willing to throw money Obama's way, and express their fervid desire for their heavily-indebted candidate to be on the ticket.

A far better deal for Obama would be to continue to rely on small donors for the general election and politely tell the big donors they missed the boat. Better than accepting the Faustian bargain of those big donors coming with their demands -- doesn't play well with the narrative of change we can believe in.

This attempt to leverage HR Clinton onto the ticket by dangling cash that way is irritating. More so when you figure Clinton's wanting to have Obama help offset her debts, so really the "$50-100 million" is minus $30 million in her campaign debts, right? Talk about bait-and-switch.

Don't do it, Obama. Keep them at arm's length.

Her "supporters" continue to damage Clinton's chances

With brainless backers like these, no wonder Hillary Clinton did poorly in the fundraising sweepstakes. Despite her request to knock it off, they continue to try to jam Obama and force him to pick her as veep. This finance committee needs to concentrate on ingratiating itself with the Obama people, not offering ludicrous threats and veiled blackmail. Each time a statement like this comes from a so-called supporter of Clinton, the less likely it is that Obama will want to pick her. These people need to get a clue, sheesh!

I eagerly look forward to being able to paraphrase Shakespeare as I praise Clinton tomorrow: Nothing became her campaign like the leaving of it.

She should pt that Yogi autographed baseball on E-bay.

That would probably raise a couple of thousand. Then she can buy Lotto tickets and get some loyal backers to help her scratch-off the winners while dodging sniper fire. It's dangerous work but probably no more dangerous than walking onto the set of jay Leno's show where they were trying to pick her off again. Man, there must be some really pissed-off Bosnians out there.

The nerve of her fund raisers to demand Obama place her on the ticket. I say send Bill the $30 Million bill she ran up and demand he pay them for her outrageous antics. You now, for better or worse, for richer or poor..I guess I just don't get it. Run against the guy, throw the kitchen sink at him (a sink she apparently bought on credit) and then have her fund raisers demand Obama pay it back so they can raise him money. I like the posters idea of a $2 apiece deal. I'll even send in $2 if she stops this crap and does what she would have expected, no, demanded, Obama do for her no questions asked. Nauseating...
