It's still early, but a poll that shows the party's leader in the Senate trailing his Democratic challenger could spell trouble.

    True conservatives (that is, political vs social conservatives) believe that more government equals less liberty and higher taxes (in one form or another), and that foreign entanglements leave things untended at home; government is not a friend of the people but a dangerous power to be controlled, primarily by limiting its money supply. While Bush is ostensibly a conservative, he has proved the conservative's negative equation in spades. That's why he's really not a conservative.
