Another reason to hate Rachael Ray

A right-wing blog is accusing Ray, and Dunkin' Donuts, of "mainstreaming terrorism" because of one thing she's wearing in an advertisement for the company.

The letters thread is now closed.

Please do not post links to LGF in your articles

Or any other right-wing psycho ward site, for that matter. It only encourages them.

In fact, who cares what drivel the knuckle-draggers have come up with today? That's their product, you know - crazy shit that has to be trumped forever by even crazier shit. Crazy enough to get the crazies to applaud and the liberals to shake their heads in amazement.

Oh, it gets better

http://gawker.com/5003288/mccain-daughter-dons-islamic-terror-scarf

It looks like even Republican candidate daughters could be terrorists!

Friday, May 23, 2008 11:58 AM

Did you see the ad?

Looks like a scarf to me.

But, just to be sure, we must start spelling the word "Dough-nuts" just to ward off those evil terrorists who hate our capitalist dollars

Too bad she didn't wrap it around her mouth -

Gawd, how I hate that voice.

This is hilarious

I was in New York City last month and went on a guided tour of the garment district, where our oh-so-hip guide told us that these scarves were the very latest in hipster garb, and that wearing one would instantly transform anybody into a gen-you-wine hipster.

Judging from the Rachel Ray photo, that wasn't exactly true. Some people are just congenitally un-hip.

You need to post a link to an image that doesn't require me to visit a venom-spewing hate site

Were I to go to that website, I would have to engage the services of a hazardous waste disposal team to remove the taint from my computer. Much less what I would have to do to my brain.

Don't touch Rachael Ray !!!

I can regularly laugh at the right wing neo-con slop that permiates the airwaves and press....but blaspheme Rachael, that is where I draw the line!! She is precious.

Friday, May 23, 2008 12:31 PM

Anyone who thinks Rachael Ray is precious...

...has seen her stalking down the street, taking breaks from chain-smoking only to browbeat her assistant or shriek into her cell phone.

It goes deeper than the right-wingers think...

Dunkin' Donuts is owned by the Carlyle Group, a big multinational investment firm. Two of the major players in Carlyle are George H. W. Bush and James Baker. The former, of course, is Dubya's dad; the latter led the Bush effort during the Florida recount in 2000 and had a lot to do with Dubya becoming president.

Flawed Logic

And right wingers wonder why people say they're out of touch. 4 dollar a gallon gas, and they're trying to whip us up into a frenzy over SCARVES? Even if one follows their logic, doesn't turning a symbol ascribed meaning by a particular group into a fashion accessory ultimately diminish that symbol's power? Isn't it kind of insulting, actually, to that particular group? So therefore, isn't this a good thing, according to the aims of LGF? You don't need to go boycotting Dunkin' Donuts, peoples.

Hypersensitivity to new extremes

It's a scarf. A rather boring one, actually. I find it highly unlikely that either Dunkin donuts or Ray would want to damage their "brand" by advocating for a terrorist group.

Kool Kaffiyehs

In the college town wehre I live, kaffiyehs stopped being the height of progressive/leftist fashion at least 10 years ago. By the way, for a square of thin cotton, they are indeed very warm, when you fold them up. I wear mine when I have to go out in heavy snow.

Rachael is extremely cute

And fresh raised doughnuts with chocolate on top are extremely yummy too. The rest of this is preposterous.

Friday, May 23, 2008 12:45 PM

The solution is so obvious!

Clearly, we must immediately rename donuts to freedom-nuts. That will show Rachael Ray and all the other freedom haters out there!

Friday, May 23, 2008 12:48 PM

freedom nuts! lol!

What if she put a FLAG LAPEL PIN on her scarf? That would PROVE she's a moral right minded American, right?

Friday, May 23, 2008 12:50 PM

the swatstika

has roots in hinduism and generally accepted as a symbol of peace...

HOWEVER, we know that the Nazi's changed all that...

so - i can't imagine agreeing with the nut job blogger, but celebs really have to understand that even though their intent is harmless, the general public might not give them the benefit of the doubt.

Astonishing

The bigotry underlying right-wing discourse about terrorism never ceases to amaze me. An article of clothing common to millions is a symbol of terrorism? I guess the cowboy hat is a symbol of war-mongering greed and unjustified invasions, too, since Dick Cheney wears one.

Friday, May 23, 2008 12:52 PM

owning an SUV

and sending all that gas money to the MIddle East is far more dangerous and UnAmerican than wearing outdated fashion.

Think about you gas guzzlers out there. You're sending more and more money to the middle east to fund more terrorism. YOU"RE the bad guys here, not me.

I drive a fuel efficient vehicle. Those middle east emirs get as little of my money as possible. I prefer to patrolize local businesses and keep my money in my local community.

The bigotry underlying right-wing discourse about terrorism never ceases to amaze me.

it's the IGNORANCE that is so hard to deal with.

Losing it

Was my Grampa a Nazi because he occasionally wore a brown shirt?

LGF and their fellow travellers have become completely unhinged. The downside is that crazy people can do really bad things on their way down.

Rachael Ray

Why does that bitch think everything "tastes delicious" or "is so good"? Has she ever experienced a bad tasting meal?

Friday, May 23, 2008 01:21 PM

Ray Lady Ray

Deep frying for the Mullah's!

Poor Rachel Ray. I wonder what Kevin James would have to say about her show. She's an appetizer appeaser!

She's no Cindy McCain. I can tell you that much!

Friday, May 23, 2008 01:25 PM

You Thought It Meant What?

William Kristol, writing in the NYT next week: "A quick trip to any grocery store will confirm that "EVOO" means, "Eat Victims Of Osama." (NYT Correction pending)

Bill O'Reilly, responding to a new lawsuit: "I DID NOT HAVE FALAFEL WITH THAT WOMAN...RACHEL RAY!

Friday, May 23, 2008 01:55 PM

I wore one as a scarf for years!

I wore one with one winter coat as a fashon accessory from the early 80's to '90 until I moved to a warmer climate and I'm Jewish (well Athiest now). Anyway, it was a very popular fashion item in Ann Arbor, MI and NY and no one as far as I know associated it with anything. It was a very large cotton cloth with one of any number of cool black and white pattern and neat fringes. My understanding is that it is a common Bedonian scarf and each village/region has its own unique pattern. I still think it is a cool piece of clothing.

I'll ask again

What, exactly, is War Room supposed to be? A right wing wacko bitching about a photo in an ad? This is important because?

No discussion of some particulary shocking Clinton campaign statements. McCain missing the GI bill vote. McCains controlled release of medical records. Etc etc etc.

Whats next? More about Obama girl? A discussion of McCains shoe size?
