In a statement, the paper's executive editor discussed the context of Hillary Clinton's comment about the timing of the presidential campaign and the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy.
  • Here's the thing

she claims she said it because the kennedys have been a lot on her mind lately due to Ted's recent diagnosis. Leaving aside the point that she has said this before, back in March, so it's not a slip of the tongue. But further to the point, if *Ted's* illness is the reason she's been thinking about the Kennedys lately, then why does she remember *Robert's* run for the presidency and not *Ted's* more recent run in 1980? Could it be because Ted took his fight to the convention and that is blamed for Carter's loss - and that's exactly what she wants to do?

Whatever her reasons, of course it was a calculated statement.
