Report: Bill Clinton pushing for wife to get veep nod

As Barack Obama prepares to select a running mate, at least one Clinton is reportedly lobbying in favor of the Obama/Clinton "dream ticket."

The letters thread is now closed.

Will Obama the Uniter

diss Hillary? Probably. Why would Hillary, who got more of the popular vote, be worthy of being his running mate?

Anyway, this must be a slow news day, because this is just more conjecture, more of the same bullshit from the press. Opine, opine, speculate, speculate. And just move on after being proven wrong over and over.

I Guess I'd Like to See It

I think it would be a great cymbol of the spirit of the campaign-solutions to problems trumping personal vendettas, a seat for everyone at the table, etc.

I saw a headline in the Onion today-McCain, Obama and Hillary together as the "nightmare ticket." Nightmare ticket? Actually I could think of few things better than if those three had to share a conference table and agree on solutions to our problems. Those three great minds (one a the friend of the Hyde Park brand of liberalism-awesome, one with longstanding political ties and the respect of the white working class in former union, current and former Democratic machine states, one the "maverick" antihero-the pandersome warhawk with evidence of a heart of gold) bouncing ideas off each other.

But it will never be. The party system (of which our constitution makes no mention) has seen to that.

But the coalition of Obama + the coalition of Hillary = strong stuff.

Who else?

Either one of them would be a total moron to choose anyone else. There is not even a decent potential second choice. Together they will squash McCain and any other Republican in America like the cockroaches that they are.

Although Bloomberg or Schwartzeneger would my top choice

What a way to stick it to the party system. I want what I wanted in Iowa and New Hampshire-a new centrist pragmatist majority.

the popular vote lie

To all Hillary supporters: I know your candidate's campaign is using the "we have more popular votes" as one of their primary spins, but let's just call it for what it is: a lie. It has been debunked again and again, and apparently your candidate and you think that if you keep saying it as truth, that people will believe you, but it is just a lie on on this planet where we actually use math and honor pledges and remember previous recorded statements by this candidate that actually aligned with the truth when it was convenient to her. So you can continue to say something that is not true, but it just seems at best silly.

No Way

Hillary needs to stay put in the Senate. She's too old-world politics for Obama and would bring a negative patina to his campaign and to his Presidency - kind of a Cheney-lite. However, she's great at building consensus and will do the right thing if Obama makes it politically advantageous for her to do so.

Maybe give her a special role with Health Care or strengthening labor unions.

She is a great politician, she's just not what America needs after the past 8 years of darkness. We need a big-picture, positive, visionary leader to inspire us and not lead us about by the nose or keep us in fear.

In for a penny, in for a pound.

Campaign on the need to change from politics as usual then grab yourself a retro VP who has been running a campaign straight out of the Grand Old Playbook?

Sorry, I'll hold my nose and vote for an Obama/Clinton ticket but damn it would stink to high heaven with air of capitulation.

Any vestige of hope for change would be wiped away in one tragic decision.

Needs to Help Obama

I'm on record as saying I'm fine with an Obama - Clinton ticket. But, she needs to wrap up shop & start helping out Obama tout suite to actually have that happen, IMO.

If you thought Ferraro & Edwards were good running mates...

Barack Obama's team appears to be gearing up the operation that will be in charge of vetting potential running mates for him. Jim Johnson, the former CEO of Fannie Mae, will reportedly be in charge of the process -- he did the same thing for both John Kerry and Walter Mondale.

.

Dear Jim,

You're doing a heck of a job, JJ.

Yours,

John McCain

Great News for Republicans

I hope B.O. does pick Hillary -- great sitcom material. Just what we need - 4 more years of hearing about "Bill's Babes", and more of Bill & Hill's sleazy background coming to light. Hillary will steal the show all the time, and B.O. will have a fit. Time for a change, eh? Let's get the Clintons back in. Some change.

Obama/Clinton - a match made in heaven

Obama undercuts the entire rationale of his campaign.

Clinton gets to attend the Queen Elizabeth's funeral.

Tell me again why this is a good idea?

Bill "Look at Me" Clinton

Of course he is.... he cannot stand to be out of the limelight and he knows that once Sen. Obama becomes President, he'll be about as welcome as ants at picnic at the White House *unless* he can stick his face into photo-ops as spouse of the Vice-President.

Unless Sen. Clinton is veep, the Democratic party torch will pass irrevocably out of his chubby fingers.

Fat chance

Hillary is finished and so is Bill!

Bill needs to find a clue.

Hillary's Future

I think she would do better to go back to the Senate and bide her time. Regardless of what happens with the WH race, there WILL BE a Democratic majority in both houses, and she can best position herself as THE LEADER of the Democratic party by taking a key role there. I believe that Obama WILL BE the president, but will he be able to put together a cohesive team, and then lead them to good solutions to the very real problems that we face.

We will need pragmatic solutions, much more than philosophy or rhetoric!

Obama & Dems Would be Fools Not To Offer the VP to Clinton

It's not simply that Obama runs a serious risk of losing Florida, etc. (the states that Clinton took in landslide proportions) in the general election AND THE GENERAL ELECTION itself(!!!) with anyone else in tow (look AT THE POLLS in those states!) but that the General election would be literally assured to Democrats with Clinton.

An Obama/Clinton ticket would be a juggernaut of unprecedented dimensions, knocking the Republicans so far out of the field as might bring in a renaissance of change like we've never seen before. The stupidity of not doing this could lose this country to another 4 to 8 years of Republican totalitarianism.

Let's get real here. With Clinton, it's a sure deal.

Yes, both of them will have to suck it up and work together. And just like them, both Obama and Clinton supporters will have to do the same? Is it too much to ask for a whole new tomorrow? For a REAL change in this country?

I think not!
