Fully one-half of Democrats want one candidate, and one-half want another one. Now, the question becomes, as it has been all along regardless of the pop-concert-like Obama-Rama Carnival Show, who can win the General Election for the Democratic Party? And if it is NOT about answering that question, and is about some symbolic gesture by "page turners," then we have already lost in November.
True ... but those polls have consistently shown a substantially higher percentage of Clinton voters who'd vote for McCain against Obama than the percentage of Obama voters who would vote for McCain over Clinton.
There have been polls showing Obama supporters saying they'll vote for McCain if Clinton's the nominee. I myself said that if Clinton were to be elected by somehow overturning the pledged delegate winner I wouldn't vote for her, but that's not really the same thing.
I'm just trying to be objective. There is data that supports both ideas but I don't think come the general it will necessarily hold true.
I agree and furthermore, can America (the us) do without supporting Barack? It will be interesting.
"However, it may boil down to the fact that, as we keep getting reminded Obama's support comes from eggheads and African Americans."
People keep saying this, but it doesn't make it true.
Iowa is "eggheads and African Americans?" Alaska is? Colorado? Minnesota? North Dakota? Utah?
The Clintons have done a fantastic job of spinning various stories out there without much critical thought from the media. Obama's going to win Oregon tonight, and not much richer than Kentucky, and just as white. The notion that Obama can't win middle-class whites is a crock of hooey.
While I'm sure some Clinton supporters will pout and refuse to vote for Obama, the rest are merely trying to play their part in the game to get Clinton elected. Since Clinton's only hope is argue that Obama can't win the general, her supporters know that to get superdelegates to her side at this point they have to scream from the rooftops that they will never, ever vote for Obama.
Because if they admit that they will vote for him over McCain (as a poll like SurveyUSA's new Pennsylvania poll - Obama over McCain by 8 poitns - suggests they will) then there really is no coherent argument for Clinton as the nominee.
Okay, everyone on this list who cares enough not to want to see McCain in the White House, here's what you need to do: If the rural areas of Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and/or Kentucky would make a decent day trip for you, please plan on devoting at least one weekend of your time to doing door-to-door canvassing in one of these areas. I'm not talking about last-minute GOTV efforts; by then, it's much too late. I mean, like, starting next weekend, find some organization that is organizing door-to-door canvassing and volunteer. If you're a Clinton supporter and are truly are that sickened by the Obama campaign, then don't work with them. Work with a 527 group that doesn't support Obama directly, that just argues against electing McCain. Or, just support certain Congressional candidates that you like. Whatever turns your crank.
Go up to these folks' doors. Spend some time *listening* to them, hearing their concerns, and politely correcting any misconceptions they might have based on what's being shoved down their throats by Fox News on a regular basis. Bear in mind that many of them have neither a broadband connection nor the wherewithal to go surfing around Salon.com and the Huffington Post to find out what the MSM isn't telling them.
Your help would be especially appreciated if you either happen to be from one of these areas originally, are an avid hunter or gun owner, are a military veteran, or have some other common touchstone with these sorts of folks that would get your foot in the door.
I was thinking a bit about this today. As much as I hate to admit it, I am starting think she may be right with respect to the general election. But I still don't think that she SHOULD get the nomination. However, it may boil down to the fact that, as we keep getting reminded Obama's support comes from eggheads and African Americans. The eggheads are likely to hold their noses and vote for her if she were the nominee because the idea of McCain is so scary to them. So, for them they may not like her, but they will vote for her to try and keep McCain out of the White House. I put myself in that category. With respect to the African American vote that is a good bit more tricky. But I think none of them will vote for McCain, so they will either sit it out or vote for her. So that leaves the matter of what happens if he wins to her voters. And as we have seen from PA, WV, and I suspect now KY, those people will never vote for Obama and may very well vote for the old white guy instead. Even though voting for him would totally be against their own interests economically and otherwise they will still vote for him anyway. So, maybe if they do vote for McCain they get what they deserve. Unfortunately it will drag all the rest of us down with them.
This is when the Obama scorched-earth-policy chickens come home to roost. Ain't no taking back all these months of base attacks on Hillary by Obama, his campaign
ummmmmm what in god's name are you talking about??? No really, do you have examples of this "scorched-earth policy" and rampant sexism from Obama? I'm wracking my brain for any incident that could possibly be construed as sexist emanating from Obama and I'm stumped.
You don't mean the phantom finger do you? Surely you jest...after all you're one of the ones who insists the Jesse Jackson comment was completely innocent aren't you?
Seriously, provide some examples or tell me the name of your dealer...'cause kiddo, I want whatever you're smoking!
