  • Raicst, ignorant and offensive? No! Funny parody? Yes!

What can I say? I thought that the ad was just pure funny. It was sorta like a JibJab video and it was obviously not meant to be taken seriously. Lighten up and have some laughs.

  • Superlame

That was as funny as a root canal.

  • It's just sad.

What kind of assholes spend their time making a video like that and then have the bad taste to submit it in a contest and attach their names to it? Very bad taste. I'm almost embarrassed and that takes a lot.

  • No big deal

When I got a root canal they were going to knock me out. Due to a poorly connected hose only some of the gas got to me the rest diffusing to the air. They left me alone in the room, and 5 minutes later I came stumbling out yelling about rats in the restroom and 'not so sure' about cockroaches interest in 'the clean white room' before breaking up into giggles... in my case a hilarious root canal. I suppose I could have sued them but my hazing memory seems to indicate I was having a blast.

As for the video, ... not a big deal. Mildly amusing I suppose.

  • Made me laugh

Alex Koppelman has never made me laugh out loud before. Allowing that ad to disappear into the ether would have been a crime against comedy.

Taking advantage of someone else's censorious idiocy isn't exactly the height of journalism, but it'll do, it'll do. And maybe MoveOn needs to get out of the office a little more and get some perspective.

  • Move on.

The Taliban would want John McCain to think that video is funny. The Former Iraqi republican guard likes Clinton to think the video is funny. Kim Jong Il and his army of robot men, support Bob Barr, because they know that Bob doesn't think anything is funny... specially tit cheese.

  • Whether or not you thought it was funny...

...You'd have to be an idiot to not know it was a joke.

  • DANNY sunday and TRIPP knight...

Danny Tripp was one of the main characters in Aaron Sorkin's Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Just FYI.

  • Just because it exists doesn't mean it should be watched

I'd like to encourage you to take down this link. Just because something exists doesn't mean that it should be watched or shared. Calling attention to something in order to say "look how horrid this is" is still calling attention to it, and often that is all someone wants when they do something offensive. It is the same problem when the media spends days covering school shootings - the shooter got the attention that they wanted, even if it was negative attention. The best way to stop garbage like this from spreading is to ignore it, instead of dignifying it by watching and exclaiming about how offensive it is.

I did not click on the link or watch the clip.

  • What's sad

Is moveon's utter presumption in endorsing Obama in the name of all those who do not favor his candidacy. Wonder just how many members they've lost due to this arrogant move? I can't get off their frigging e-mail list, though I've sent a number of messages expressing my outrage.

  • @mandyhih

Wow, that just flew right over your head, didn't it? Alex didn't post the link to show people how "horrid it is". He posted the link to show people how FUNNY it is. It's called satire. Try a dictionary; they're really useful!

  • danny SUNDAY and tripp KNIGHT...

Sunday night is when I wash my dainties.

  • Why is this a story?

I don't get it. Someone decides to crash a contest by making a racist video.... and is rewarded by having the video posted on Salon.

    Why?

  • That's MoveOn.....

A bunch of knuckleheads with more money than common sense.

  • Why, why, why give this any attention?

MoveOn apologizes for an ad they rejected? The best move would have been to reject it quietly. Now the noise machine...apparently starting w/ "War Room" for chrissakes...can spin it as an ad that was being considered for the contest. When the KKK, or even a parody of such, submits a poster design for an MLK day march, the organizers don't *apologize* for the obligatory haters sniping at their intent, nor do those who would purport to be for their cause, bring attention to it as some sort of embarrassment, when it's indeed an attack on them. Alex Koppelman, you really, really, really, have to take a long look at your prowess as a savvy progressive blogger, and ask yourself if this is a good fit for you.

  • A symbiotic celebration of the....

...black & white, the mixed situation....

  • Oh well...

Just like MoveOn, a lot of you have taken the cream pie full in the face. You even knew it was coming.

    I guess satire IS dead.

  • its funny on you tube its not funny on salon given joan walsh's views on blacks

Joan Walsh: "I do hope Obama learns from the misunderstanding, and doesn't ever again seem to disrespect the disadvantaged working class while he's flattering the overadvantaged class that attends his fundraisers, or his Harvard and Columbia class reunions. (In my experience, the black and white overclass has far more in common with one another than they'll ever publicly acknowledge.)"

Joan Walsh: "As I wrote Friday night, although Obama can sometimes seem glib and a little bit above it (us?) all,. . ."

Can you imagine her complaining about the Ivy League education of a white candidate? Can you imagine Joan's teeth-grating at the thought of Gore, both Bushes, both Clintons, Kerry, Dukakis, Bill Bradley, etc., etc., etc. attending their Ivy League reunions.

Can you imagine Rush Limbaugh calling Obama "above it (us) all" without getting called out for using a euphemism for "uppity"?

So. If Dailykos; or TPM; or Atrios; or The Onion runs this video its cool; if The New Republic or KKK Weekly or Salon doesn't its not.

    Just my opinion.

  • MoveOn don't do Nuance

You really have to hit them over the head with a toaster, don't you? Either that or they suffer from HIPS (humorless internet pricks syndrome)

  • I'm confused

Why does MoveOn feel the need to apologize for a video that they never accepted, never endorsed, and never even posted on their site? Any dingbat can make an offensive video and submit it to a contest; that hardly makes the contest organizers responsible for the video's content.

  • Hey KateTex

Would MoveOn still be arrogant if they had endorsed Hillary?

  • super ad

The ad's an ironical take on racism. Indeed, it satires the way we think about colour and our own prejudices. Excellent work: creative and intelligent
