  • sajwan, let me say it again

The reason isn't bribes. The reason is the potential to attract younger supporters. NOW and NARAL have an aging base of membership, and at least NOW, has lost many "middle aged" supporters like me who used to be active. I suspect NARAL has too. The generations often have difficulty speaking to each other. I have tried very, very hard to understand Clinton's base of older female supporters because my mother is one of them. It's personal for them, I get that, in a way that it isn't personal for younger women because they haven't felt like they were swimming upstream all their lives to reach a goal that was unattainable just because they were women.

I get all of that. But as a mother of teenagers, it has dawned on me more than once that our children much as we love them not only are sometimes strangers, but have the righ and even the duty to be so. These younger women who support Obama are success stories made possible by second generation feminists. It's our duty to make sure that they understand that they don't owe us anything more than living their lives as they see fit, so that we don't become the kind of albatross around their neck that many of us worked hard to shake off for ourselves. Give them a break.

  • NARAL - why now?

    Because NARAL's a negative.

When was the last time you heard a politician go out of their way to discuss abortion?

I wish NARAL came out strong in the middle of the democrat convention, when their endorsement could do the most damage.

  • sajwan

NARAL isn't a women's organization. It's a reproductive rights organization. Men can be and are members of NARAL. I think you have a pretty skewed perspective when it comes to gender. Look up what NARAL stands for, or at least notice there is no letter W in there.

  • sajwan

You just went Rev Wright. Your credibility is now trashed. Go vote for McCain. You'll enjoy losing 2 elections in the same year.

  • @sajwan

The only reason I can think of casuing Naral to so obviously shill for Obama (especially in the timing of the announcement) is because Obama bribed Naral with access to his extensive mailing list of donors. ...

Ahh, and since this is the only reason you can think of, you want the rest of us to accept it as established fact?

  • To non-trolling Clinton supporters--

On page 8 I outlined my view of your rationale for being angry at NARAL's decision to endorse Obama. I said the following:

I have read this string, and several people (e.g. fountainwhirl and xufapemu) have asked a fair question: How exactly can NARAL's endorsement of Obama, an admitted pro-choice candidate, be construed as a betrayal of the women's movement?

Although I am not a woman or a Clinton supporter, (and thus may be completely off-base and I apologize for this if I am,) I will try to put into words how I think some Clinton might feel about this issue.

What I think this group means is that they think that by endorsing Obama instead of Clinton, NARAL is betraying not a person (i.e. Clinton,) but rather an ideal: the notion of female equality. They might claim "How can you be for the idea of female equality without giving women (such as Hillary) the opportunity to "be" equal in practice.

They might claim that doing so represents an act of hypocrisy similar to Thomas Jefferson proclaiming that "All men are created equal" in the Declaration of Independence, but still holding on to his African slaves. The principle espoused and the practice thereof don't seem to match. "How can you support an ideal in theory, but not in practice?" they would argue.

Is this how Clinton supporters see this situation?

Well, others to be moved to accept your anger at this decision, we need to at least begin to understand it. Is my hypothesis concerning supporting Female equality the reason you are so incensed? Or are you simply pissed off that HRC is losing the election and even her erstwhile friends are abandoning her? Many fair-minded people (I think I am one) would like to know.

So WHY are you so pissed off at NARAL? Real discussion, rather than mere name-calling begins with understanding. Help us understand, please.

Thanks in advance for a response.

  • @Hepstyle

Re my post on pg 20.

Whoops! Absolutely correct. We're still talking delegates here. Can you tell I want to move on to kicking McCain's ass and getting about the work of rescuing us all from the Bush years? I actually feel badly for whoever wins this election. Cleaning up this mess is going to be a nightmare, and odds of a second term are slim. That being said, I still don't want McCain.

Idunno! I'm kind of excited about this fall. I'm an avid Obama supporter who has always been willing to vote D no matter who wins the nomination, and I can say that I think McCain is toast. Bush makes an ass of himself every day, and McCain is inextricable linked to him. I think Obama will win the nomination and the election, and to be honest, I really think that we have one of those "once in a lifetime" candidates who can really turn things around.

Did I mention that I'm a bit of an optimist? ;)

  • Coattails

Every place Obama wins, other candidates win. They tried to use Wright against Obama and the candidate won. Obama's coattails are going to be strong. People need to know that all the candidates Bill Clinton campaigned for lost and that now includes Hillary.

Bill Clinton not NARAl,Bosnia or her gaff on immigration was the worst thing that happened to Hillary. He talked when he should not have. His trade deals killed her and him convincing her tho vote for the war buried her.

All this other stuff is fluff.

Shawn, and the other republican hacks are in trouble. It is great to see them gnashing at the teeth. It is so great to read how angry and bitter they are. I know it is not right to be amused at someone else pain but this is great. It gives me extreme joy to read their stupidity, hatred and shallowness.

They think that their not voting for Obama is going to stop the train that is about to run over McCain and the GOP. Not only is he going to win but his Coattails are going to pull in a massive amount of Democrats. The Clinton/Bush era is over. Barack Hussein Obama is ushering in a new era of American Unity. As he takes the fear out of a name and color, no longer will people be scared by a name, color, gender, sexaul orientation or nationality. America is going to live up to is creed that all people are created equal and have the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Shawn,Tgirls,WES you can hold on to your hatred all you want you will be the only ones that suffer. It must be hard to see Obama continuelly picking up delegates everyday. It must be hard to see that black uppity, empty suit speech making man BEAT such a smart woman like Hillary. Logic would as how great of a campaigner could she be if she lost to this upstart inexperinced man.

He was either good or she was incompetent. You don't want to admit it but she thought it would be over after Super Tuesday and did not do a good job in caucus states. Then Bill Clinton opened his mouth and inserted foot. You can hold on to all your accusations make believe scenarios that he Barack had a backdoor deal with NARAl. But the truth is Americans are ready for a New Day and it is here. Go Barack
