A nice reminder
of what one will be voting for (overturning Roe) if one refuses to vote for the democratic nominee (whomever he is).
-
Cue ...
... "Most Liberal Senator" silliness from the right.
That said, NARAL was correct to endorse Obama over McCain in terms of women's right to choose. In those terms, the decision was an easy one.
I respectfully suggest that those Clinton supporters who are seriously considering voting for McCain should remember this.
-
What the...?
I have zero respect for a group like this that would choose one Democrat over another at this point in the campaigning. If they've waited this long to make an endorsement, what's the point? If Hillary beats the odds and wins, what are they going to do...throw their support over to McCain?
It seems to me an issues group like this should express preferences for candidates based on...well...ISSUES, specifically THEIR issue. Who appointed them arbiter of how to run a race for the nomination?
Nor am I sure why you consider them part of Hillary's "natural" constituency. Are they also part of Ann Coulter's?
-
Good for NARAL
It pretty usnual for NARAL to endorse before the nomination is secured, but there is no chance Hillary can win even with MI & Fl.
As a former political pro-choice activist in the 90s, I believe that Obama is much stronger on the issues than Hillary. He does not avoid the issue when asked.
I also think that many of the "women" vote she is getting are not supporters of reproductive choice, and those it's possible those would abandon the Democrats as soon as they found out HIllary was was indeed pro-choice. In all her "gender" pandering, Hillary has not mentioned reproductive.
In any case, the Democrats are in stark contrast to McCain's anti choice position. WE have more than one aging SC judge, so the next present will be appointing at least one judge. Roe v. Wade hangs in the balance with one vote. We cannot afford another anti choice presidentto appoint a judge. We need balance for all civil liberties including reproductive coice.
-
The what....
Seriously, when would be good for you then? After all, Hillary could "beat the odds" as you say and win as a write-in in November so by your logic ... hold on. What logic? If they haven't endorsed by now, what's the point? So they should have endorsed sooner? But then you say, but Hillary could beat the odds. And then you say since they've endorsed Obama now, what if Hillary does get the nomination-are they going to endorse McBush?!?!? Are you just high? Haven't you heard of switching endorsements? Losing candidates do it all the time. They endorse themselves but then they drop out and endorse the nominee.

What's the point? Party unity, for starters. Also, I think it's telling that in a statement to the AP the board notes "a growing rift between black voters and white female activists." Healing that rift is crucial to NARAL's survival.

Kate Michelman, former President of NARAL had already thrown in her support for Obama in Fe 2008

Here is the text of her endorsement.

The handwriting is on the wall!
If the Democrats don't want to listen to the voters, if they are dead set on losing the election, there isn't a thing sensible people can do who can read the handwriting on the wall. Obama is not electable. That's clear. How many warnings does the party need; they've been getting them since Super Tuesday? I guess they are just self-destructive and I, who have been a Democrat all my life, have to sit back and watch them throw away an election. It is absolutely disgusting, but more than that it is embarrassing!!!

Hey, thanks for sharing!
Now what exactly does your latest screed about "electibility" have to do with a NARAL endorsement again?
Thanks
p.s. about that "electibility". 'Member when Kerry was the Electible one? How did that work out again?

Dems F**K it up with regulatiry.
There are other issues out there in addition to reproductive rights. Obama's campaign got it's jumpstart on the Iraq War and a promise of change. Change?
Barack Obama voted for Dick Cheney's Energy Bill which was practically written, in secret, by oil, gas, and agricultural lobbyists. This bill undermines Obama's promise to reduce lobbyists' influence in the legislative process.
Obama's vote on the predatory lending bill was wrong, too. In one debate, John Edwards chastised Obama for not voting to limit interest rates on these loans. Obama argued that the limit should actually be lower. But Edwards shot back, saying that by not filing a lower limit amendment and not voting for the bill, Obama essentially supported no limit at all.
In an interview with Chris Matthews, Obama suggested that perhaps "we" could learn something from the Republicans about the merits of less regulation.
NARAL will lose a lot of support for endorsing Obama at this juncture. They should have waited 'til the Lady in the Pantsuit is out of the race.
Democrats are so predictable. They f**k it up all the time.

Welcome Sesanders
We needed another nameless letter writer along with the Texas Gals and Shawnie to remind us how stupid we all are.

@manyctnj
First of all, I'm pretty sure that NARAL endorsed Bill Clinton earlier than this in 1992. Second, if Hillary "beats the odds" they'll then endorse her over McCain for the general election. Third, it's a matter of party unity, something you seem to not comprehend -- folks like you, who are so bitter (yes, bitter) about intraparty competition that have caused Democratic losses in previous elections (see 1968, 1976, or 1988 for example).
Dipshit.

WTF?!?!
Another example of the pro-Obama misogyny that has been a constant during this entire campai... Oh wait a sec...
nvm.

Party unity is the least of my concerns. If Hillary doesn't win, I'm voting for McCain.
NARAL's days are numbered either way. In 10 years you'll only be allowed to get an abortion north of the Mason Dixon Line and there only if you were impregnated by a monkey.

NARAL will lose a lot of support for endorsing Obama at this juncture.
Doubtful. NARAL is about securing reproductive rights for women. Only people who didn't care about reproductive rights from the get go will be angry about this.
