Code Pink witches take on the U.S. Marines Corps, and broomsticks fly.

  • Does Code Pink annoy anyone else?

I just don't understand what they are doing honestly and when you hear some of them talking out there, it's very incoherent and doesn't seem thought through that much.

  • Only in America

Sometimes I am reminded of what a great country this is.

  • Wow...

These two groups were made for each other.

As far as Code Pink goes, all I can think about is a great headline from 'The Onion' a few years back: "Gay Rights Parade Sets Back Gay Rights Cause Thirty Years".

Sometimes a good cause's worst enemy is its most ardent supporters.

  • I'd still rather her about

how Hilary supporters are sending emails to supers threatening to vote for McCain if the supers don't bow to their bidding. Can we get a post about that soon?

  • Alex, it's Marine Corps, not "Corp" (in your first graph).

"Corp" is short for "corporation" (e.g., Citicorp, which is now just Citi, or, as some call it, "Shitti.")

It's amazing how often I hear these two words confused, though. I once heard Barry McCaffrey refer to "Dyn Corps" in a speech, instead of DynCorp.

  • Code Pink is a tool of Fox news and Karl Rove

Code Pink does nothing more than diminish the intelligence and stature of level headed left wing arguments. They play perfectly into the Right's mis-characterization that the left is a bunch of loons. If only Code Pink had the humility and instrospection to notice that they are achieving none of their objectives but giving the rest of the left a bad name.

Or to put it more ironically; Code Pink gives credibility to the right wing in pretty much the same way that Bush gives credibility to an insane Osama Bin Laden.

  • @WashDCMan

It's true. On returning from the Peace Corps, my boss asked me how I enjoyed my time in the "Peace Corpse".

  • @ Brian - Seattle

    Code Pink annoys everyone else.

  • Melanie Morgan?

You mean the clownish former talk show host on KSFO?

The Melanie Morgan who appears regularly on the pages of Media Matters for her outlandish (and factually inaccurate) attacks on people like Jon Soltz and George Soros?

The Melanie Morgan who has "podium-ed" multiple times on Keith Olbermann's WPITW segment?

You *could* have mentioned that in the article.

Say what you will about Code Pink, but Melanie Morgan is truly odious.

  • Aren't the spells supposed to come back 3-fold anyways?

Thank for reporting on these nutjobs. I have a little more respect for Salon when they actually give us bad news about the far-left.

  • This sounds about as useful as trying to levitate the Pentagon.

Now dammit, where are the responsible protestors? Where are the mainstream voices of opposition to this obscene war?

  • People have given up on protesting

The most politically fired-up people I've seen in the past 6 months were Ron Paul supporters. A sure way to kill the conversation at the coffee house is to try to recruit protesters.

  • As a former citizen of Berkeley

may I suggest that this is just not worth Salon's time? Even people that LIVE there no longer pay attention to this stuff anymore!

Its the Boy Who Cried War effect-- when everything gets protested, no protest matters anymore.

  • Speaking as a Pagan -

    I find this truly embarrassing.

Please, folks - we're not all like this.

And yes, I am a liberal, tree-hugging avocado-eating Californian, but as an American even I recognize that we need the Marines and the Marines need to recruit people. And one of my good friends is a Marine recruiter, too. A nicer, more intelligent, dedicated and ethical guy you will never meet.

Concentrate on finding the shmucks that use deceptive, illegal or unethical methods to meet their numbers, and we know they're out there. Punch that up. If it's in Berkeley, then out the hell out of them. Wear a signboard and walk in front of the center, scream it on the Internet. But trying to protest a legitimate military recruitment center on the basis of protesting the war is not just stupid, it makes us look really bad. Trying to do it with witchcraft makes me just cringe.

"For the good of all and according to Free Will" is how we bless all the Work we do. And as far as I know, it's still a volunteer military, and if some kid wants to be a Marine, why are you pissing on his or her free will?

To Code Pink: Please, please, please shut up.

  • Boston to Berkely 40 Brick Lost Bag Blues

I really respect how intelligent the Pinkers are, and activists like Joi who know the personalities and history that give meaning to their cause, unlike the jingos from Move America Forward.

I wonder if the full name is Move America Forward One Dead American Soldier At A Time?

It would seem to me that making it public was the wrong thing to do, and it also seems that if that is how far they have needed to go, I would have thought that maybe the Pinkers would have rethought their strategy for success. Their current course isn't working. Perhaps some utilization of intention and attraction might work better than confrontation.
