Obama takes superdelegate lead?

Barack Obama had a big day Friday -- some outlets report that he now has more superdelegate support than Hillary Clinton does.

The letters thread is now closed.

Too much about Supermodels!

Sure they are cute, but I do not want them choosing my presidential nominee. And how come all the Supermodels are Democrats? Don't the Republicans have any attractive skinny women?

Bye Hill

not with a bang , but slowly eroding support

Although it may dissappoint the Hillary faithful

It's nice to see the super-delegates getting with the program. The system is STUPID and yes Florida's and Michigan's voters got screwed but I didn't make up the rules. By the way DNC, can we change this fucked up mess of primary procedure so that we don't have super-delegates? It's as useful as the Electoral College (aka. USELESS). We have the technology (not Diebold), why the Hell isn't everything done by popular vote? That sure seems more Democratic to me than super delegates or the Electoral College.

Up the supers and do it with haste.

It's Obama +10, isn't it?

I think today's count was +10 for Obama.

Electeds to Obama today

1. Rep. Peter DeFazio, OR

2. Rep. Mazie Hironi, HI

3. Rep. Donald Payne, NJ (Switch from Clinton, but +2 offset by Chris Carney, PA to HRC)

DNC to Obama today

4. Vernon Watkins, CA

5. Wilbur Lee Jeffcoat, SC

6. John Gage, MD

7. Ernest Epinoza (Mr. Super), CA

8. Joe Johnson, VA

Guam certifies today

9. Pilar Lujan, Guam

NM add-on

10. Laurie Weahkee, NM

So, it's Obama +11, Clinton +1...or Obama +10.

Keep it up, Superdelegates

If the Supedelegates keep this up, they will save everybody a lot of money.

Friday, May 9, 2008 04:09 PM

Superdelegates or equivalent are necessary

To all who would like to get rid of the superdelegates, there still needs to be a mechanism to counter possible mischief by republicans trying to pervert the process by voting in democratic primaries. I agree that the superdelegates should now get on board and end this thing, but changes to the nominating process need to be carefully thought out.

close, hill, but no cigar

everyone knows it's over except ol' Hill, still attacking, still shrill, still losing. close, ms clinton, but no cigar. ask bill. he knows cigars. show some grace. run the rest of the races, sure, but drop the Poor Woman act and stop the attacks. When you look wistfully back at Huckabee, you know we've got a shrew on our hands. PIty.

Stand-in...

For one-note W.E.S.

B-b-b-ut in the general, there goes Florida! Anyway, it is so far from over. Keep in mind the new number to Clinton camp is 2209. And then there's the rules committee meeting. Then the convention credentials committee meeting. Then the lawsuits. She'll claim without Michigan and Florida being awarded AS WAS that it was not a valid primary and so there is no valid nominee. Just watch. And the lawsuits won't START at the Supreme Court, but she'll push it to that level all the while claiming no valid contest until ALL avenues and appeals are exhausted. Right up to "write in my name tomorrow if you believe, like I do, that I am the only one qualified to win" on November 3.

Friday, May 9, 2008 04:24 PM

Another one drops in.

He jsut got antoher Super delegate. He ahs 271. he now ny needs 160 total delegates to secure the nomination.

If they drop in like this each day until May 20 he will have it after his BIG OR win. Hillar ywill also not win WV Big.

Actually I've heard it's up to 9

"Nine on the day

Virginia's Joe Johnson caps Obama's best superdelegate day, a gain of nine, a gain of nine including Payne's switch, an Obama aide says.

Obama's now ahead in our superdelegate count, not a tremendously meaningful measure, but another sign of the coalescing party."

To me after Tuesday, and Senator Clinton's odd remarks, it's about time. I do have some sympathy for Hillary here, it's obviously v-e-r-y difficult to walk softly for anyone in the position she's in right now. And I understand she is trying to be respectful.

But, this is a very delicate point for any campaign. She has to be careful not to alienate any more SDs (as many of us feel her USA Today interview driving a mack truck through the working class divide did). Her campaign MUST stay positive from this point on. Or we're going to see a flood.

Conversely whenever Senator Obama finally closes this thing out (which he has), Senator Clinton realizes it and concedes, it becomes his chief responsibility to treat her VERY respectfully. Hillary Clinton has run as tenacious a campaign as has ever been seen. No one doubts her tenacity or ability as a fighter.

But another 3 or 4 days like this and it's really over. That point's coming eventually no matter what.

Unleash the supers

Let 'em loose to the Max

It's time for Hillary Clinton

To learn some hard facts.

Friday, May 9, 2008 04:59 PM

regarding lawsuits

If the clintons go as far as going to court over florigan and michida, their legacy will be down there with George's. She lost a tough race. It's hard to accept. It took me a month to get over Edwards dropping out. But, hey, the future of the country is in immediate peril. Grow the hell up, Hillary, and show some grace. Run the string out with some style.

Karen Hughes? Ann the Man Coulter? Condi Ricearoni? Uh, I don't think so.

The floodgates have opened...

...the damn had broken. But we all know that by know anyway. The question is, when will Clinton back out and in what way?

Friday, May 9, 2008 05:26 PM

Hmmm . . .

The plain fact is that Mrs. Clinton would need at least 85% of the votes in the remaining primaries, in addition to other highly unlikely circumstances, in order to barely win. The chances of that happening are less than 1%. Clinton's own political analysts admit it.

Clearly, Mrs. Clinton is no longer running to win the nomination. Instead, she is burning her bridges behind her and following a scorched-earth policy.

The question you then have to ask is: Why is she still running?

Would anybody care to venture an analysis? How about a guess?

Friday, May 9, 2008 05:32 PM

John McCall

The question is, when will Clinton back out and in what way?

Certain circumstances suggest that Hillary won't quit even after it becomes mathematically impossible to do so but could very well take it right up to the nomination.

I think I know why. It would tend to explain a number of adverse outcomes in US politics over the last few years.
