Interesting, but....
The one thing I don't hear people talking about is how a Clinton or Obama campaign will effect Republican voter turn-out in the general elections. I greatly fear that any mention of a Clinton on the Democratic ticket will drum up a huge Republican turn out, which will have a negative impact on the Democrats in both local and national campaigns.
My perception is largely due to my own personal observations. I've got a lot of republicans in my family, and while many dislike Obama on principle (although two have declared their intention to vote for him against McCain), a mere mention of the name "Clinton" brings on an almost apoplectic fit. They HATE the Clintons in a way that defies rationality. That hatred is one of the reasons why many of the republican talking heads are saber rattling for her to win. Even my relatives who despise McCain (and there are a number) would be willing to vote for him if Hillary wins the nomination.
I wonder if there would be any way to get an accurate measure of that effect, although what with the accuracy of polling this season, I doubt it.

Uncle Fester
These numbers were reported on CBS and other sites on election night. You can discount them if you want to, but they are truthful!

"working, hard-working Americans, white Americans"
The above line is horrifically racially insensitive.
Everyone always said that Hillary Clinton was Polarizing and Divisive, that lines proves it.
America doesn't need that kind of racial insensitive crap in politics.

hardworking=white
My first thought when I read that was, "Damn, is that woman sleep deprived or what?" My second thought was that this was a Freudian slip, in the sense that she was unconsciously attempting to sabotage herself. No reason to believe that's true, of course; the first reason is explanation enough. But either way, I feel for her. But I'm sure a woman in her position can find a gun or a religion to cling to.

sesanders Truthful, good numbers
I'm not discounting any numbers. You just haven't shown me why these primary numbers apply to the general election. That burden of proof is on you, not me.
You would have a much stronger argument if you dicussed the exit poll numbers where large numbers of Hillary supporters say they will vote McCain in the fall. Then we'd have something to talk about.

@ jpetty
"Racializing"? What's THAT supposed to mean?"
Hmmmm...I wonder where people get the idea that Hillary supporters are undereducated white trash?

Fetboy
I agree that the comments are polarizing but not any more so than calling Bill Clinton a racist by Obama supporters and playing the race card by the Obama campaign.

Why Insult Readers' Intelligence?
You have to wonder why Mr. Koppelman and his editors would publish a piece with such obviously flawed logic. As a prior reader commented, GWB's degree of support among African Americans is an invalid comparison. Improbably perhaps, he ran against somebody even whiter than himself.
So, do the writers and editors of such pieces not care that they make no sense, do they expect us not to notice, or are they simply coping with the need to publish bereft of any true insight?

"if his supporters continue to peddle the line that people who vote against Obama are racists."
This supporter wants to know why exactly you are voting AGAINST Obama and not FOR Hillary. It's just that kind of attitude that freaks the press out and leads them to think that our party will be too fractured to win in November.
Let's face it. Come this fall, you are either going to contribute to a D victory or a D loss. What's your choice?

Please do not be deceived. Black voters are sick and tired of this mess and the democrat party can take us for granted if they choose, but they will do so at their own peril.
Unfortunatly, we are used to dealing with the impact/effects of discrimination, inequity and unequal access; a skill that has been honed over generations. Therefore, we have an uncanny ability to make something out of nothing, and as a result have managed to succeed in this country despite the barriers.
So if McCain is elected, and things get worse(which they will) Black folk will do as we have always done and that is to press on. However, those that are not used to struggling, or dealing with lack (regardless of race) will have a much more difficult time living without their privilege.
So my point is that we will not vote democrat if Hillary steals the nomination. We may not vote for McCain, but we won't vote for her either. The general consencus seems to be that the time is right to take a stand. We cannot let the party get away with this or we will be relegated to the bottom forever.
We will not be fooled again. And the reality is that this time the democrats cannot win without the Black vote. And for the first time in history, the leaders of the party will have to seriously consider that fact before they try and screw us one more time.

@ jebldmm
Obama needs to prove that he can get the votes of a significant number of all non-black voter's. His performance amont Latino's, an important contituency, has been dismal. The reality is that among every group but black voter's Obama does not win enough support to win the general election. It is likely that some, or even many, of these people will vote for Obama in the fall, but will they be enough to win the election?
There's a mountain of statistical evidence that indicates that Obama does just fine with white voters who were born after it was considered socially acceptable to attack black people with dogs and blast them with fire hoses. Some of it has already been posted here. I know it's been rehashed time and time again whenever you or one of the other reality-defying shrill Hil shills tries to claim that Obama can't win the white vote. If you insist on remaining so willfully ignorant that you won't accept that, well, congratulations. You're backing the candidate who matches your mindset perfectly.
But if reading all of those numbers makes your tiny mind ache, could you just explain to all of us why Obama, who you claim can't win a significant number of non-black votes, is leading in the popular vote (even counting Florida), despite the fact that only 12-13% of Americans are black?
