Cue snide comparisons between Obama and McGovern by embittered Clintonites...
Three ... two ... one...

Important
I think it's important for the Democrats to ignore Fox News.

This gives Clinton an out
On Tuesday night, Clinton declared she would charge forward into campaigns in Kentucky and West Virginia, and made her standard arguments about Florida/Michigan.
I think these were Clinton's prepared statements for a win. She probably also had prepared statements for a severe loss. Clinton most likely did not have prepared statements for a "mmmyearrghhh," which is what last night was -- a marginal win.
So Clinton went with the winning remarks. But I don't think she really meant them. I think she enjoyed the last hurrah of her campaign. I don't deny her the right to enjoy that.
But now is the time to get out. Clinton is way down in campaign funds. Her supporters are frustrated and seeing little hope. There is no good reason for Clinton to push forward.
McGovern's call for dropping out gives Clinton an excuse to change course from what she stated last night. It gives Clinton a clear rationale for saying, "You know, McGovern said to me.... And I thought about it... And as much as I hate to admit it, he's right...." Etc.
There will be more people calling for her to drop out. This is the perfect time. She enjoyed a solid win. She can end on a high note.

Who Cares Which Democrat Limbaugh Supports?
The declarations of a blowhard Rethug junky should not be trusted. Neither should anyone who relies on him for an opinion about anything.

Sometimes, you need friends...
Sometimes, you need friends to tell you when it's over. McGovern is the first but he won't be the last to help Hillary pull the plug on her campaign.
-
Stick to Your Baseball McGovern
I am a Hillary Clinton supporter and I think George McGovern and all of the super delegates should stay out of this race until the people have voted.
Maybe George should get back to the steroid use problems and stay out of our race.
I am so sick of these men thinking they can tell Hillary and all of her supporters that she should get out of the race.
George: Maybe you should be fighting for all the voters who have voted in Florida and Michigan to be counted, then you tell me who should leave the race.
I am sure if there were two men running at this point, you would have kept your support as is and you would allow the race to go on.
You are just another inferior man who has to get his one cent in.

If the Texas gang follows McGovern's "lead" then...
...she might step aside. If all those friends that the Clintons made in Texas back in 1972 when they all worked on the McGovern campaign together -- Barrientos, Flores, Roy Spence, Garry Mauro, Truano (sp?), etc. -- decide to side with McGovern, then Hillary might step aside.
But until then....let the voters have their say.
McGovern would be a wiser elder statesman if he was advocating for a Michigan/Florida solution.
-
MICKI
I'm just curious: what do you think is a fair solution for Michigan and Florida?

Hillary the spoiler needs to step aside...
George McGovern is wise and has given good advice to Hillary Clinton. She needs to listen and to put the country's interests ahead of her own political aspirations. She should step aside gracefully, while she still has some dignity. Otherwise, she continues to be the "spoiler." I can remember how the Clintons and the Carvilles of the past name-called Ralph Nader for his third party attempts. At least, Nader showed the way to a more progressive campaign and candidacy and at least he held contrary views to the traditional candidates, views that needed to have a place within the American discourse. In Hillary's case, she far surpasses the spoiler notion of any third party candidate. She doesn't represent a more progressive view than Obama. She spoils for the sake of little political and social difference except that she probably offers less in terms of progressive change. Nader deserved to be able to represent alternative views, because, at the time, those views weren't being spoken. Hillary spoils for apparently no other reason than spotlight selfishness.

@ncawley
You're confusing George McGovern with George Mitchell re: your baseball and steroid comments.
-
A Little Confusing...
Why would George McGovern switch allegiances from Hillary to Obama, and then announce that he'd placed a call to Bill Clinton about the change?
Why not just tell Hillary himself? Whatever his reasoning for the change, it seems like a patronizing, even dismissive, slight.
For example, can you imagine Gorbachev leaving a message on arms control talks for Ronald Reagan with Nancy?

ncawley: wrong george
ncawley, I think you're thinking about George Mitchel, not George McGovern.
Both Georges are influential former Senators, but I think the former presidential nominee carries a bit more weight. George McGovern also hails from and continues to have influence in one of the remaining primary states. Though, admittedly, South Dakota doesn't carry a lot of weight in delegates or population.
McGovern is still just another VIP endorsement switch. For a VIP endorsement switch, it IS a big one. But the endorsements are more of an indication of where things are in the presidential contest versus something that actually moves votes.
But I like how important Clinton's endorsees supposedly are, that is, until they are no longer her supporter. Then they are irrelevant.

Headline: FAMED PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN EXPERT GEORGE MCGOVERN TO JOIN OBAMA TEAM AS STRATEGIC ADVISOR
Okay, so it is just a joke. A guy can dream, can't he? It's so hard, otherwise, to use up our old supply of Eagelton jokes...
-
George McGovern has bad manners.
First of all, he should have informed Senator Clinton before making this announcement. Second, he shouldn't be calling Bill. Bill is not running for president. The fact that he informed the former president, Bill Clinton, instead of Hillary Clinton disgusting to me. He is treating Hillary Clinton as a "little lady" rather than a candidate for the presidency.

@E-Man an elephant never forgets?
...it's so hard, otherwise, to use up our old supply of Eagelton jokes...
McGovern might actually have some decent experience about how not to lose. Knowing what not to do can be very valuable.
