The calls come in immediately after polls close in the state -- Barack Obama has apparently won North Carolina's Democratic primary.

  • The Margin Will Matter

I personally hope it is in the double digits. That would offset the sting and delegates of losing IN. I am pretty much resigned to the fact that Clinton won IN. Hopefully, the networks will also spend some time dissecting the voters, particularly the Republican turnout in a Democratic primary.

  • why the heck are all the vote counts so off?

every network inexplicably has Hillary leading Obama in their numbers! Is this a glitch? Are they calling it based on exit polls or surveys?

  • Gary, IN

Is in the central time zone. I assume their polls stay open an hour later. Is this the case? That is Obama territory, and would seem to explain part of the wide disparity if I am correct.

  • Can't wait for tommorrow's headline from the Clinton Talking Points Memo

I'm sure it will state something along the lines of how North Carolina is "irrelevant" and full of "elitists".

  • A real surprise! Blacks are voting lockstep for their half-black guy!

    Real news here!

  • I predict...

    Let's play Pundit Pony.

Pundit Pony predicts every attempt will be made to minimize Barack's victory in North Carolina while shining a spotlight on Hillary's win in Indiana. Pundit Pony predicts Salon will ratio their articles in favor of this prediction 2 to 1.

  • Paul Begala

seemed to give a semblance of a concession speech this evening. It was in the form of advice to Barack to be certain to place the jam on the lower shelves so that the little people could have some, too.

    Clever. Cute. Over. (I hope).

  • wow Shawn

Look at the demographics pal, North Carolina is only 1/3 African American...

ya know, CNN has been talking about that nonstop - or have you been busy starching your white hood to watch the coverage?

    ;)

  • Wow

Begalia is indeed defending Obama! Me thinks the time has come to bring the Democratic party together.

  • compare and contrast

The bevaviours of Begala and Carville.

I've consistently felt that Begala has been the most even-handed of the CNN pundits that have declared their allegiances.

We'll need alot more Begalas and alot less Carvilles if the dems are going to come back together.

  • But how will Clinton react?

I think whether or not the party truly comes together really depends on how Clinton reacts. If she loses graciously then the democrats will be unstoppable in the general election. If she remains divisive and argues continuously for Michigan / Florida to count then there may be a problem. The numbers do indicate that there is more division in these two states than there was in Pennsylvania. It could easily continue. Let's hope there is more unity, for all of our sakes.

I can't foresee a Clinton victory after poring over the numbers. And if she somehow does manage to count Michigan and Florida in her favor, how could we elect a president who changes the rules after the game was started? Imagine how the Republicans would use that to paint her. She would be destroyed. They'd call her a cry-baby, and we'd all look like morons. Not to mention the many very arguable factors of over-turning the popular vote for the first African American president. She alienated a core Democratic base; the African American vote. And because of that (I think last count was 92 / 6 for Obama) she's effectively done.

So once again the question. How will she react to the ever-increasing number stack? In my humble opinion, tonight would be an amazing opportunity to unite the party and declare her race over. Obama's speaking first. She's second. I'm crossing my fingers but not getting my hopes up.

  • Happy days are here again!

No more clouds of war to fear again!

  • @ShawnWM..

Do you ever tired of saying, well, just dumb stuff????
