  • Those darned racists!

Well, you know, it's all those hilljacked, red-necked, corn-shucking whites in Indiana that are so racistly running for Hillary.

Whereas those black, lock-step votin folk out in NOrth Carolina nutin wrong with dat there.

Hypocrite thy name is Barrack Obama.

  • shawn I don't suppose you read the editorial

that suggested that Michael Dukakis would probably have won if Reagan had had a 30% approval rating.

    cheers.

  • Shawn

No doubt you intended the ironic bigotry in that post of yours.

  • Operation Chaos

has been great for Alex' candidate, so it's no surprise he dismisses it's impact on voting. But c'mon... in Ohio (where doing it's actually against the law) there are plenty of self-admitted followers who are STILL laughing about pushing Hill over the top. It wasn't just Rush, but clowns like Bill Cunningham, urging loyal Republicans to have some fun.

And hey, it worked. Alex' opinion is irrelevant, not only because it's skewed so far towards Hillary's interests that he never fails to pimp, but because it flies in the face of facts and reality. Look at the margins in Ohio, especially SW Ohio. They ran out of ballots all over the place, even though they had a firm count of new registrants, and expected a lot of voting. A HUGE number of Republicans crossed over, swamping the polls and causing a run on Democratic ballots. It's a red part of a red state, so I don't think these folks were jumping on the Clinton bandwagon because Hill's so swell, nor are they pulling for Obama's Hope. They're making mischief, period. Get real Alex!

  • The smell of your conspiracy theories is piquant.

Yes anywhere Obama does not win it's because of a fix. A fix I tell you, by that secret John Birch Red Fascist Manchurian Mole, Hillary (R) Clinton. Good thing the Salon Counterintelligence Corps exposed the plot which could have brought down the Dear Leader.

  • what is it about Drudge?

how come he always gets the scoop? If ever there could be a good conspiracy theory!

  • bored?

Now, there are many large caveats to keep in mind as you hear about exit polls for the next hour or two. First, this first wave of exit polls is notorious for being less than perfectly reliable. Second, in previous primaries exit polls have shown Obama doing about 7 percentage points better than he does in the actual vote. And finally, both Indiana and North Carolina are states that are considered very hard to model for polling purposes.

But I guess we'll discuss these exit polls for a few hours anyway, even though we know going in that they are unreliable, eh?

  • No conspiracy...

Limbaugh, Cunningham et al are very up-front about their goals and tactics. What's the mystery?

This doesn't mean Hillary only won because of Limbaugh in these states. It does suggest the margin of victory has less significance.

On the positive side, I think the attention and debate of the primary really has been good, and I thank Hillary for her substantive contribution to that debate. Among products of this unusual and interesting process are millions of new voters (registering for the first time as Democrats), energized and engaged experienced voters, and a clear disdain for the media's shallow coverage and portrayal of the candidates. Think about it: the media has muffed every call since 2004! Hell, 2000 with Florida being called both ways over and over again... this year voters are defying polls and all expectations. Voters really DO keep this thing going.

So, I don't see a conspiracy or really care whether or not Republicans prank the party. The issue for me is Alex' dismissal of the significance of a real phenomenon that affected actual votes, while regurgitating Hillary's her arguments about the significance of those margins in other places. I'm pointing out bias at Salon, not a conspiracy by Rush or calling a foul on Hillary.

  • Drudge

Drudge breaking an embargo on exit polls? Don't be silly. Drudge doesn't do exit polls. Drudge just makes shit up!
