How come no
9000 word treatise on why Obama will win the ever important Guam vote?
-
off topic
But everytime I hear of the Guam Caucus I think of Duke Phillips on the Critic opting to skip that particular contest stating that he wasn't even sure what to call people from Guam.
Guamites? The Guamish? Guamie Bears?
We'll have to see if the Guamish can give Obama the momentum to roll into North Carolina and Inidiana.
Fingers Crossed.

You gotta hand it to this primary season...
We are paying attention to Guam and Puerto Rico. Something about this immense inclusivness is fabulous.
-
Oguama
It's a state of mind.
-
Because she came so close...
will this be trumpted as a Clinton upset although it is rather small...and caucusy...with people of color? Because so far, if a state is any one of those (much less all three), it doesn't seem to matter in Clinton math.

@meffert
Every time it appears that Obama supporter comments can't get any uglier or more bitter, someone like you comes along. Give it a rest, okay?
-
How is what meffert wrote any more bitter or uglier than
Look, there's absolutely no getting around the fact that Obama has won only ONE big state in this game - his home turf, IL. Obama's lead in the popular vote can be boiled down to his advantage in one county and that's Cook and that's synonymous with Chicago. C'mon, give it up - for Hillary supporters, there'll be no tears tonight but instead, a lot of champagne corks popping - yah!
-
it's Guamanian
but the question is how to spin this seven point win. on the one hand it shows a large decline compared to hawaii, on the other, guam is very military oriented. who knows? i'm glad Obama won but it is not crucial either way.
-
I'll tell you what's uglier and more bitter, xufa
You're being pretty disingenuous here. Meffert's clear meaning is that in Hillaryland, the votes of 'people of color' don't mean a damned thing. The same old tired beaten to death entirely false ugly racist bit.

Win lose or draw, at this point Obama should be the Democrats nominee
This is for any Clinton supporter but maybe katetex in particular.
Much has been made about white working class, but Bill Clinton won twice without them. Explain to me how any Democrat can win without the support of 90+% of the African-American vote.
The black vote gets taken for granted because they are the most reliable Democratic voter, but I don't see how Hillary Clinton maintains their high support if they perceive that the nomination was stolen from Obama. I think if Hillary could make the case that she won outright, their support would be there for her. But if Obama wins more states and more pledged delegates, it isn't going to go down well.
She can argue lawyer ball with the super delegates about big states, but black voters aren't buying it.
And if Democrats want the most reliable bloc of the coalition to support the nominee in the fall, she's has to beat Obama in elected delegates.
Dislike Obama all you want. Argue that it wasn't his turn. Say that he's being greedy. Hillary Clinton still won't win a general election without overwhelming black support. It is the black vote that makes independents and white working class the swing vote. If black voters don't come out, all the white working class and independent voters who've ever voted Democratic won't save Hillary Clinton from defeat.
My point in another post that you couldn't make heads or tails of referred to polls among black voters who said they'd vote for Clinton. But when black voters are asked if they'd support her if Obama received more pledged delegates, they results were ominous. Only about 80% would support her if they felt she stole the nomination.
That would leave her with about the same success as Carter against Reagan. Carter had the same percentage of the white vote as Clinton did in '92 and '96 (Carter 36% Clinton 38%). But while Clinton got 90% of the black vote in the '90's Carter received just 82%. Carter also did better than Reagan with women and those making less than $15000 a year. (thats $15000 in 1980 money).
So again, please explain to me how Clinton wins in November without overwhelming black support.

@ KateTex
What does the black vote matter anyway?
After all, Jesse Jackson won SC too, right?
Tell me, to what audiences has Bill Clinton been campaigning in the last week?
There was a reporter from NC on Chris Mathews' show saying that the Clintons at this point are completely ignoring the black vote and Bill Clinton is strictly going to white towns and voters.
That sounds to me like they have completely given up on African-Americans.

So, xufa
Apparently you belong to the We'd Rather Stiff Clinton and Nominate a Candidate Who Can't Win Against McCain School of Political Thought and Suicidal Impulse. Yes, the Democrats are in a very touchy situation, but it's of their own making. It was a huge mistake to train the party's 'racist' and 'liar' cannons on Hillary Clinton, that much is clear. The devil is now exacting his due and it's a tidy sum.
-
No, I know Obama will beat McCain
I'm saying to folks who think Obama can't win, that Clinton can't either.
For Democrats, the black vote is the low hanging fruit. Its the first rung on the ladder. Any Democrat who can't put the black vote solidly in his or her pocket needn't even concern themselves with other demographics or "swing" voters. If Kerry had simply held onto the black percentage Gore had in Ohio, Kerry would be running for reelection. But enough black voters were peeled away with Ohio's gay marriage wedge (He lost Ohio by about 2%).
From MO to PA to MI, black turnout is critical for Democrats up and down the ticket.
For good or ill, rightly or wrongly, Hillary Clinton would probably not receive the numbers she needs in those states to win. Kerry won PA over Bush by 2.5%. Without the high black turnout in Philly, he loses that state by more than 10% (about 10.2%).

I started out willing to support Hillary or Barack

I'm not a young pup new to the process. I had no reason to want to tear down Mrs. Clinton or the former President.
I'm not an idiot. Someone inside her campaign decided to make Obama the black candidate. Again, I've been around enough campaigns to know what I saw and heard, and I had no reason at the time to attack either Clinton; I was neutral before SC.
As far as Mrs. Clinton lying, well, she did lie about her experiences in Bosnia. Repeatedly. Not just late at night, but at every hour of the day.
She's lucky a hell of a lot more wasn't made of it.
As a veteran, I can tell you that the worst offense a soldier or veteran can do is puff up their record or lie about their service. My VFW has kicked guys out for that. She wants to be the Commander-in-Chief. Commanders don't lie in order to make themselves seem more courageous.
