+1 for the message in the ad. I think a gas tax holiday is a stupid gimmick and it makes Hillary seem even more Republican to go along with it.
-1 for the that hokey inspirational music in the background. For the love of God, can't we find some music that doesn't sound like its parodying itself?

Bottom line: It drives up demand, which in turn will raise prices (eating up the 18 cent savings) and that's only if the oil companies pass the savings on to the public.
In the meantime, it diverts billions from the highway trust fund.
Exactly why I like Obama. He does not pander, but looks long term . He is Not reactive, but proactive. I love Hillary's gas pump pubicity stunt. Being Driven in a alerge vehcile with a line of several large gas guzzing SUVs to the gas pump for publicity..my God, that's her energy policy!
From a factcheck article on yahoo news:
"As a state legislator voting for a tax break, Obama even joked that he wanted signs on gas pumps telling motorists that he was responsible for lowering prices....THE FACTS:
In 2000, gasoline prices were climbing quickly, reaching $2 a gallon in the Chicago area — a remarkable price back then. Illinois legislators scrambled to offer some election-year relief to angry motorists.
Obama voted three times for a tax holiday.

Funny how Obama didn't think it was a "gimmick" when it could serve him in the Illinois senate. This is just disingenuous tripe. He sure was willing to "posture" back then. Three times worth.

Yes, but he seems to have learned that this kind of trick is counterproductive, and he's refusing to repeat the mistake again.
How many examples can you cite of Bush learning that something doesn't work?
First, I don't believe Bush is even mentioned.
Second, Obama certainly doesn't mention his "mistake" does he? He just insists this is the way it works in Washington and how he is going to change that. But he worked that way when it seemed to serve him, didn't he? It's a bit disingenuous of him to somehow imply that he's so much better than all of that and everyone else, when he voted for exactly the same thing as either Clinton or McCain propose.
Obama's obviously NOT above pandering and pretense when he feels it will serve him.
And Clinton's pandering? I forgot; if she does it, it doesn't count.
Whatever he did or said in the past, when going national, he does what makes the most sense. I'd like that in a president for a change.
Anyone who would even suggest that a "tax holiday" is any kind of solution to high fuel prices shouldn't be acceptable as a candidate for a school board, let alone president. I mean really, does anyone seriously think this is anything other than the worst kind of counter-productive, populist nonsense?
Sure, Obama may have advocated for this in the past, but is he doing so now? If he does come out in favour of it then we're all as screwed as I think we are. If he doesn't then maybe there's a glimmer of hope. Good luck.
Logic in Daman's world...
A) If Obama supports gas tax holiday - he's copying Hillary copying McCain, and he is not being genuine. He has no good ideas.
B) If Obama refuses to support gas tax holiday - he's out of touch and a 'do nothing' who hates working class whites.
Funny, he loses either way!
And that is how you know you are a fraud, Daman.
And I love the fact that he is just against the gas tax holiday "for political gain", even though this stance will surely cost him the white-working-class-idiot vote. Yeah, that's real "gain" there!
Hillary's stance on this shames you, I know. But there are better ways to deal with the fact that you support someone who looks more and more, with each passing day, to be the kind of Republican candidate we used to despise and mock. Remember when we wondered how this kind of candidate could appeal to anyone with a HS GED or higher?
It's amusing. When McCain came out with the gas tax holiday, Salon readers when united in mocking it. There was an immediate realization that this was an idiotic idea, aimed at pandering to the lowest common denominator, that truly showed what a clown McCain was.
And the second Hillary emraced it, all the Hillary supporters got real quiet. And now they are coming out to defendit.

If you just follow her blindly, that's cool. Just don't pretend you have some intelliget POV. You sold out. But most adults your age do that eventually.
I cannot wait to see Hillary embrace intellgent design! Hopefully she will do it at that Noah's Ark museum!
To be fair, some Clinton supporters are calling her on this ridiculous and counterproductive proposal although not nearly enough based on previous participation. However, there is already one Clinton supporter here who is trying to divert the thread to "Obama did it too several years ago!." Please don't fall for this nonsense. Remind the poster that it is year 2008. It's a presidential election. One candidate alone has the guts to stand up and tell people they need to reduce gas consumption. McCain doesn't understand the issue most likely.
Hillary has no such excuse. It's a very telling response on her part. I think that's why so many Clinton supporters are relatively silent after savaging Obama over Wright for so long. This is nothing more and nothing less than the worst kind of political posturing. It actually runs contrary to most of Clinton's own energy policy platforms. To see her stoop to this level even makes me disappointed and Clinton lost me several months ago.
