  • this is important...

why? Who cares when he started running? Did Bill Clinton start running for President when he "met" JFK?

  • So?

    Slow news day?

  • and this is relevant because?

    Alex,

could you update this post with a reason why this is relevant, because I cannot find one.

    Thanks

  • Same

can be said of Hillary in early 2003. Another non-story from Alex. Why did Steve Benen have to leave?

  • Not to be all nanny-nanny-boo-boo, but ...

When Hillary Clinton started feelers for running for Senate in NY, pretty much everybody said it was the necessary precursor to a White House run for her. Because it was. And that's why she did it.

So ... ? Why do we care?

  • Just one more voice added to the chorus.

Who the hell cares? What difference does it make? Does anyone think a politician suddenly wakes up one day and thinks to him/herself, "Gee, I think I'd like to run for president today."

  • This is meaningless?

Seriously, who cares? If Obama did start campaigning for President in 2004, that tells us what?

Also, it should be noted that by the time the 2004 Senate election happened, Obama had already become somewhat of a national name due to his speech at the Democratic National Convention, and due to the fact that he had such a huge lead over Alan Keyes leading up to the election and did not need to campaign very hard in his own election, he had made some appearances on behalf of Democrats running for other offices. Could some of these forays into other states have been not to campaign for President, but to campaign on behalf of other Democrats in those states?

Not that it matters though. What Presidential candidate in the history of our elections put no thought into running for President until the moment that they entered the race?

  • When?

    When did Salon.com become Talon.com?

  • Rev Wright

The Federal Income Tax Lien for $48,000.00 filed against Rev. Wright

    www.webofdeception.com

  • Steven where have you gone?

yep, yep, yep.... to all of the previous posts. I would also like to see Alex update this post with an explanation of its relevance. Bring back Steven.

  • Obama wasn't lying

He seems to have said exactly what he meant: that a presidential run had to begin very early, and that it wasn't fun for him.

And when did Hillary Clinton begin running? And when did John McCain? And WHO CARES?

  • Let's Get Back

To King Kong versus Godzilla...Tha battle of the narcissists....Wright versus Obama.

  • The others just don't get it...

... but I do! This post is relevant within the Salon.com alternate universe because it displays, once again, how arrogant, ambitious - nay! - audacious Obama is. Imagine the hubris, the chutzpah - not to mention the disregard for someone as experienced as Hillary and the unmistakeable latent misogyny that goes with that disregard - of a man not yet a Senator aiming to become President.

It's enough to leave one scratching one's head in despair. How will Obama recover from Running-Too-Early-Gate?

  • I think it matters because

People need to see that Obama is a POLITICIAN. Much as most of you seem to need to believe that he isn't. And I've voted for him 3 times (in the Illinois senate primary, in the senate election, and then in the presidential primary) so please don't start accusing me of being an Obama hater.

Another point that ought to be made REALLY clear is that Obama basically ran for senate unopposed once Jack Ryan dropped out. His huge lead over Alan Keyes was meaningless--there wasn't a CHANCE Keyes could win in Illinois. Keyes was brought in because the Illinois Republicans needed to run SOMEBODY (it would have made more sense for Jack Ryan to stay in).

  • Fuck You All in the Ass, Salon.

Fuck you like you've never been fucked. Now you're posting this shit just to piss off your most loyal readers, a majority of whom likely support Obama.

If you'll give me my money back, you can cancel my premium subscription now. I've only used you for years as a portal to blogs I actually read any way, but you keep posting these inflammatory attack headlines to provoke readers like me into responding.

  • brewmn, you'll never get your money back

and they're using it to slag Obama. Must feel good, huh? Enjoy! I know I am.

  • Did I say "despair"?

    I meant "concern".

I'm scratching my head out of concern that Republicans will attack Obama using this Damning Expose.

  • Meaningless

And Hillary started her run for the presidency as soon as she agreed not to divorce Bill after he admitted that he did, in fact, have inappropriate relations with "that woman."

    What's your point?

  • So what?

    So what?

  • Break out the giant cartoon magnifying glass

This is a notable contribution to meaningful campaign coverage. Proof that that hope really is AUDACIOUS!

  • Salon: cover real news.!

I want some reporting on Obama's Muslim history -- and his ties to terrorists. Or about how he cheated on his wife with a small dead, muslim white boy. Or how his parking tickets in college will come back to haunt his campaign once the GOP smear machine really gets going.

I guess I should settle down; Salon will no doubt cover all these topics in due time.

  • The Problem Is Not When He Decided to Run; It Is His Lack of Experience and Judgment

I don't care if Obama decided to run when he was four years old. The problem is that he lacks adequate experience and has shown appalling judgment in not taking care of his baggage (Wright, etc.) before running. The result may well be that he will get nominated but get slammed in November. Why? Because many Democrats and independents will not be willing to take a chance on a guy who tries to have it both ways when controversy hits him and doesn't have enough of a track record for people to know who he really is.

Obama is a divisive figure who is willing to sacrifice the Democrats' chances this year for personal ambition.

  • Oh God..he's a POLITICIAN?

What the hell? They all are. Since everyone acts like the word that sufficiently and accurately describes that profession is somehow a slam...what do you suggest we call them?

Ben Smith at Politico may as well write for a tabloid. All of these political sites are becoming more tabloid than informative. Mostly opinion and very little fact. Just like cable "news".

So f*cking what that he had Presidential ambitions..some say that go as far back at kindergarten. Do you think for one second that the Clintons didn't have this stuff all mapped about starting back in the 80's. When do you think she..you know the "politician" from Illinois, I mean Arkansas, no Pennsylvania, oops I meant New York, started thinking about running? She was lying about it all the way up until about a week before she announced. Then we all shouted a collective "Well, no shit!" because it was obvious.

Salon is turning in to Politico's step-sibling. Maybe thats why Tim left the War Room and joined the ranks over there.
