She must win Indiana!
Unless she loses, in which case, she "must" do something else instead. It's like a merry-go-round in here. Without the "merry."

Huh?
NC has like twice the delegates of Indiana. How can you argue that Indiana can seal it for Obama but not NC? Makes no sense whatsoever.
Lately, Mr. Benen, I read your posts and get the impression that you're writing to write. Just kinda talking out of your butt. If Obama gets 60% in NC, that'll be pretty huge, right?
Anyway, trying to wrap my head around Indiana, I get the feeling that it lines up closer to Ohio than Illinois politically. I am eager to see how it lands, even though I think NC is far more important for reasons that should be obvious by now.

Never...
Never did I think that my Indiana vote might ever matter in a national primary. After years of just getting to pull the lever for the already established candidate, I get a choice and a voice.
I would be really excited if I weren't so frustrated about wishing the whole thing was over.

Bet it all on Indiana
Indiana is the next must-win for Hillary, and it would certainly have to hurt Obama's case if he can't win it at this late stage in the game. So how about this...whoever wins Indiana just takes the damn nomination?
Oh, it's an arbitrary approach, no doubt, but it will wrap the game up well in advance of the convention, and it will give the candidates a chance to show how they might fare when they go all-out in a reddish state like Indiana, and one which at least appears to be more up-for-grabs for either nominee than PA or NC.
I can't quite say I advocate for this idea, but I'm beginning to think I hate it less than what may lie in wait in the weeks and months to come. So until the people decide on a winner, which doesn't look likely, I say we draw the line at Indy! Hey, most NFL OT games are essentially decided by a coin flip...and I'm starting to worry that the Dems will be looking to mint a big, commemorative coin when they reach Denver if something doesn't settle this soon.

Hillary Needs To Proceed
To Indiana immediatelly and start hammering on the gun, religion(cling, bitter), and patriotism issues.

More of the Same
So he wins a state, she wins a state. He leads in pledged delegates and popular vote. She claims Florida and Michigan. He says they don't count because he didn't run. She gets more negative. He gets more negative. And so on to the Republican's delight.
The only questions are a) will he flub it and b) can she get him to flub it without taking too much blame for doing so and c) how beat up will the winner be when they finally turn to face McCain?
She could step back and be the acknowledged alternative if he flubs it - offsetting her negatives by being the hero who steps up to save the party at the last minute. But, keeping the pressure on him increases the chances that he will flub it. She'll follow that route. After all, what's the downside - McCain wins, the only serious contender to the Clintons' control of the Democratic Party is knocked out, and she takes the nomination and White House in four years. Victory for the Clintons and friends and isn't that what really matters?

Guns God and Gays for WES
Yep, she has to focus on those distractions that Obama keeps talking about. SAme old crap that makes people not want to vote at all. WES is all too eager to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Nortorious R.O.V.E.
That's a nice playbook. You got a crowbar I can whack out a few kneecaps with?

Who's this "we" you are talking about? And do you really think this is the way we should select a President?

Make or Break State Part XIV
How can any state be "make or break" since none of the voting matters? She is relying on Super Delegates, so none of these votes makes the least bit of difference.
The only reason to say this is to craft a storyline - if she wins it is lauded as a major momentum-changer. That is why she picked Indiana as opposed to N Carolina.
This is all PR. Thankfully the media sees through it.
Oh, wait.

Your vote is meaningless
The next President will be decided by a bunch of back room deals with a few hundred murky unknown superdelegates aka machine hacks who, when they DO make themselves known, openly tell you that they're switching their votes to whomever they like regardless of what you think.
I don't know what planet you people live on, but this looks a lot like election rigging, fraud and bullshit fake machine politics that you see in Africa and those other places liberals like to imagine they'll vacation in some day.

I agree with electrorobot completely (for once).
We should strip superdelegates of all their votes and nominate whoever has the most pledged delegates and/or popular vote! What? That isn't what you meant?

Hoosier Momma?
Indiana only matters if HR Clinton wins it. Don't forget the narrative, people: only states HR Clinton wins matter; any states she loses are inconsequential. That's what's gotten her through this lurching campaign the whole time. An elitist attitude, to be sure, but it's their playbook. So, if she wins Indiana, it'll matter. But Obama wins it, then it's meaningless, and the race goes on.
I think she's hoping to just stagger her way to the convention at this point. Hardly the crowning of Queen Inevitable she'd wanted at the outset of this campaign, but what she'll have to settle for.

HEADS-UP ON OREGON
As a Salon.com devotee, a pathetically dedicated political junkie and a proud Oregonian with significant ties to the Secretary of State's offices and the Dem Party of OR, I feel a duty to let you all know that (1) OR is the only 100-percent vote-by-mail state, (2) the OR Ds are very enthusiastic and motivated, and (3) due to the timing of the ballot-mailing, many -- if not most -- Oregon Ds are going to cast their votes BEFORE Indiana and No Carolina voters do their thang. FWIW.
