Pivoting away from Clinton, Obama appears ready to go into a general-election mode.

  • "temptation to respond to Clinton's intra-party attacks proved irresistible"

If a pit bull has attached itself to your leg, responding to the event is more a necessity than an "irresistible temptation"

I was pleased with his speech last night but, to be honest, while mcCain was the only name mentioned, you could have inserted "and hillary" several times and it would have flowed just fine.

  • If I were a voter in one of the upcoming states

I would be more interested in who can mount the most effective campaign against McCain. I think if both candidates focused purely on McCain, the party and primary voters would benefit equally.

We know all the other "points of distinction" between the candidates ad nauseum. Lets see who can best shred the lame talking points from the McCain campaign.

  • Not in NC

Casting a Democratic vote for President in NC is at best, symbolic.

  • He can't beat Hillary

Maybe he thinks he'll have better luck with McCain.

The problem is the media won't defend Hillay, no matter how unfair or dishonest his attacks are.

But the Village idiots love them some Johnny Mac.

Obama is tap dancing in a minefield.

  • What the hell do you know about NC

    electro robot?

  • electrorobot and "symbolic votes"

It is in my homestate of texas but that doesn't stop you all from continuing to make a big deal about the "win"

  • @bdop4

bdop4 nailed it. This thing doesn't look like it's going to get settled soon. We know the candidates can shred each other - who cares. Tie into The Foggy One and see who can dismantle his Straight Crap Express.

  • "The problem is the media won't defend Hillay, no matter how unfair or dishonest his attacks are."

Wow... Awfully early to be that tore back.

  • Will Obama shift his focus to McCain?

so what if he does? The clinton strategy will be to tag team with McCain. He'll still be fighting a war on two fronts. Hillary Clinton and John McCain will be a united front. It doesn't matter if Obama focuses HIS attention on McCain. the Democratic PARTY can't focus its attention on John McCain until the nomination is settled.

  • This is a good strategy shift.

This should have been done earlier. Now is a better time to start attacking McCain than never. Someone needs to mention the "Fire on the Forrestal". McCain got 150 killed aboard his carrier when he left is plane running hot. A stray rocket misfired and hit his plane, but the rocket didn't explode. If dislodged a fuel tank and the fuel tank sparked. If McCain hadn't left his plane running ...

  • Obama can't afford to shift his focus yet

Neither he nor Hillary have won this thing yet and there are sufficient votes and delegates still up for grabs to win it.

That is the underlying issue here. Until one or the other wins, they cannot focus solely on McCain. And while they attack each other, McCain can quietly sit in the shadows, make comments on their attacks, look at political advantages where available and exploit them, and use the time to increase funds in his political coffers.

And when the Democrats FINALLY get a candidate, they will have an up-hill battle all the way to beat McCain...and will most likely lose because they cannot make up time or ground quickly enough.

And Operation Chaos isn't helping either.

  • This is exactly what he needs to do

If he engages Hillary, he fights at her level and puts him on the defensive, where she has the advantage. It also feeds the media's quest for more gotcha politics that are good for ratings.

He's going to be the nominee, pretty much everyone agrees with this in some way. Therefore, he should be focusing on McCain because that is what will be on voters minds now.

  • Operation Chaos

is nothing more than a lot of hot air released by America's greatest blowhard. The notion that Limbaugh's minions are influencing this race is simply wrong. Limbaugh is nothing more than a distraction and a waste of time and energy. When you attribute this sort of influence to Limbaugh you are playing right into his hand.

Instead of wasting enregy and bandwidth on this moron, use it to point out that McCain is lying when he says that 401(k)'s and IRA's are subject to Capital Gains tax. I say this as an Obama supporter.

    siebecker,

So you believe that all those Republicans who voted Bush into office ACTUALLY intend to vote for Hillary in the General Election??? I don't buy it. They followed Bush and will continue in lockstep.

I think Operation Chaos IS happening.

  • Hepstyle

What do I know? Oh I dunno. I live there. zipcode 27615. look it up.

  • Chaos

"So you believe that all those Republicans who voted Bush into office ACTUALLY intend to vote for Hillary in the General Election???"

I would be more inclined to "believe" this phenomena when someome can present some reliable statistics as to how many Repubs actually voted for Hillary in the primary. Exit polling indicates otherwise.

You live in Raleigh. How can you be so myopic? Here in 27707, we're pretty excited about turning the state around.

  • Siebeker

I know at least two hardcore, john wayne republicans here in Texas who were quite proud of their hillary votes and their contribution to Operation Chaos. (One even went to the caucus)

And I don't hang around with that many republicans...

  • @meffert

Yes and I know at least a dozen Republicans and none of them would ever take marching orders from Limbaugh. Sure, there are hundreds, maybe even thousands, who participated in Chaos but not enough to make a significant statistical difference.

Again, Limbaugh's primary agenda is to get Dems to turn on each other.

    siebecker,

Polls can be fixed, the same as elections. All you have to do is tell someone you are a Democrat...how would the poller know?

Point is, there is a mass exodus from the Republican party to the Democrat party voting for Hillary...and it started AFTER Bigboy said to. I smell a rat!
