I think the GOP wants to battle Clinton, only because of spite. Bill Clintons 8 years in the white house are their only blemish in 38 years of White House political domininance.
Bill kicked their ass, they may want payback, so I am guessing they'll spend the rest of the Democratic Primary smearing the unknowns about Obama with exagerations about his past and "knowns" they just make up, thereby helping Clinton.
They got nothing to lose, if Obama still wins they accomplish plenty of preliminary damage before the general. If Clinton wins they get another shot at bloodying a Clinton who to date has always beat them in an election.
