moratorium
There is still a moratorium on death row in Illinois. Death sentence or not the gang bangers would still be sitting in jail. Which is working out well for the government overall. I hear the Army and Marines are looking for a few felonious men.

?
Yeah, the chain of logic is pretty darn tenuous. And is there really a "war on gangs"? I thought the gangs themselves had the war thing taken care of already.
It is probably not the best they can do, though, unfortunately. But I'm still not worried. Obama already took Clinton's kitchen sink and turned it into a relaxing bubble bath. While I've no doubt there will be a shadow attack on e-mail and talk radio and such, I doubt it will have the air of legitimacy the the Wright and Rezko deals were granted - and those didn't even stick. I've no doubt the Republicans will TRY to be worse than Clinton, but I think they will fumble a lot more. Well, unless they hire a good strategist.... I hear Mark Penn is looking for a job.

Chicago State Senator
The ad refers to Obama as a "Chicago state senator." I wasn't aware Chicago was a state.

Ummmm...
Steve I enjoy your posts and you have done a great job and I hope you remain at the War Room helm, but to say you don't see how this add is that bad?
Go back and do a some research as to the ads that have made a significant impact in past elections and consider that these people are saying that since Obama won't execute (kill) gang members (i.e. young black men) how is he going to be tough enough to fight terrorism (i.e. kill and torture young muslims).
In America where the tipping point to decide an election is held among a relatively small portion of the electorate that except for the Clinton years went Republican since 1980 and consistently votes against its own interests in deference to campaigns of fear and bigotry, that ad and ones like it are going to resonate and resonate loudly with these people.
My question now and what I've been waiting to see: now that the right wing has made a hard jab at Obama, how will he respond? Or will he even respond?
Remember four years ago; if I had seen an ad attacking Kerry for his Vietnam service as opposed to his anti war stance after serving in Vietnam I wouldn't have believed it would have had any effect for two reasons. The first is because I would have assumed Kerry would swat it down like a fly and use it to pummel Bush. The second is because I would have expected the media to discredit the dishonesty of the ad.
Guess what? Neither happened.

What?
Do people really think a president is potentially going to enter office and with the wave of a magic wand just eliminate the death penalty? I think ads like this are aimed at people who think that sort of thing is actually possible.
-
Horton style ad?
When I saw this ad this morning it did not phase me much. For one thing, you cannot equate strength regarding terrorism to Obama's stance on changing the death penalty laws in Illinois. It's a bit of a stretch. Republicans will no doubt think its a homerun...because they LOVE the death penalty as much as they LOVE being pro-life. Makes no sense either way.

The thus far unspoken story of this election cycle is the massive advantage the Democrats are creating with registering new voters and moderate Republicans and independents cross-over voting.
While the pollsters perceive the Obama/McCain race as being essentially even, unless they have properly weighted their sample . . . and I doubt they have . . . they will be unaware of the growing statistical advantage Democrats will have at the polls in November.
Personally, when it comes to an honors graduate of Harvard Law versus a Crazy Old Coot who graduated 894th out of 899 . . . I think Obama will wipe the floor with the crusty and useless John Sidney McCain III, a man who has never received a paycheck in his entire life from anyone other than Uncle Sam

I like to think ...
I like to think most people are tired of this sort of thing. On the other hand, I wanted to think that in 2004 and 2000 as well. (And 1996 and 1992 and 1988 and ...)
On the third hand, judging from the primary, I think Obama's responses to this sort of thing are much better than Kerry's, Gore's, etc.

Really hope it runs *just* like this...
...especially when the caption reads "dealth penalty."

Lame
This is right out of an SNL sketch...Ben Stiller and Tim Meadows as politicians...
What will your candidate do about the bat problem that plagues our city?! We can eliminate the bats with armed, soldiered monkeys!
My favorite part of the ad was when the woman's voice over states: "So the question is, can a man so weak on the war on gangs be trusted in the war on terror?" HA! This is good stuff. I guess she has a point, though. I mean, Barack practically killed those people single-handedly. The logical next step is that he can't fight "the war on terror".
What I find so effing stupid about this sort of crap coming from the right is that they are saying, in effect, that democrats will let us all die. As if they are all going to be sitting around playing video games instead of paying attention to matters of national security. Maybe the makers of the ad are confused and forgot that it was GW Bush, a Republican, that went on vacation after learning that Bin Laden was "determined" to attack America with jet liners.
This, folks, is why critical thinking needs to be taught in our public schools. The fact that people fall for this sort of junk is scary. The fools who come up with this should be ridiculed.
This is just a thought: What if the people targeted with these sorts of ads actually released their own versions of the ad making fun of how ridiculous the original was? I don't think there's any law prohibiting this. The problem is that democrats have taken these sort of attacks seriously when they should be making fun of these morons publicly.
