  • Will the media cover it?

Probably not. They can't look up from licking McCain's shoes long enough to read the writing on the wall.

Tiger can't change his stripes folks. McCain was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He didn't stop stealing cookies, he just got better about not getting caught.

  • The Mainstream Media

The Mainstream Media does not think that the public needs to know about that. Unless they think it will help put their choce for war stooge in the White House.

    McCain is not that choice.

  • Exclusive video footage of the reporters from the "Straight-Talk Express!"

  • All that integrity...

    ...for only $169,300.00 a year!

  • Don't bet on it.

Chris Matthews will roll his eyes and say,"hey, why shouldn't McCain help constituents. Jack Murtha does it all the time, and it pales by comparison of Stevens from Alaska's "Bridge to nowhere" so , hey people, lets keep this in perspective". Fox Snooze won't mention it and neither will the Sunday dry-hair-look pundits. It's a no starter because it's a GOP player.

It's an experience thing that won't be added to McCain's list of experiences and because it's so similar to what people are trying to pin on Obama that it'll cause a redoubling of the effort by these demigods of talk-show puke to drag-out video footage of Pastor Wright blaming our failed domestic policies for poverty and forien policy blunders for attacks by people that hate our freedoms.

This is all getting scary. With stolen elections on everyone's minds, and too close scrutiny now on that particular M.O for the GOP to remain in power, it'll be the "liberal free press" and the talk show pundits job to crush any chance for real change in the next election. It's becoming blatantly obvious and quite nauseating. Jesus Christ where the hell has our Republic gone?

  • "Scandal?"

    No problem.

Another barbecue, and a few trips on the "Straight Talk Express", and reporters will be bringing donuts to Senator McCain again: Just as God ordained they do.

  • "should be a big issue" - Hah!

Yes it should but anyone who thinks it will be a big issue hasn't been paying attention. At least two Republican senators, along with many others, have questioned McCain's mental stability and fear what would happen if he were president. Is any of this being reported in the national media in a serious way? No. In fact, Mr. man-crush himself, Chris Matthews, said last night "so what" if McCain has a temper? Lots of politicians do. That comment, pretty sums up what will be the MSM's approach to the very real question of does the nation want to go from an incompetent ignorant president to one with one finger on the button and a slipping hold on his emotions.

  • Why do we still pretend this is "the media's" job?

It's like hoping the school paper will do a investigative report on the playground bully and put an end to his reign of terror! You can't rely on that, you need to punch the little bastard in the mouth yourself.

I'm on the DNC email list. I should be receiving daily or at least weekly lists of GOP Shenanigans, McCain closet skeletons and any other talking point they can come up with. Republicans (including all the MSM drones) are getting this kind of shit hourly from the Dark Overlord.

If the media won't talk about this kind of crap then we'll just have to speak to out fellow voters(the horror the horror).

Somehow the Dems have bought into the myth of the objective or even liberal media. They think they can mention something and it will gain traction amongst the carefully coiffed talking heads and ink stained editors and the Truth will be revealed.

It is this kind of insipid fantasy world pipe-dreaming that is allowing McCain to be become a legitimate threat in November. It is time to reconfigure the party structure. The MSM won't help, it is time for grassroots. No more slogans. Give us talking points.

  • An Investigation

should be ordered to examine the process behind the huge discrepancy in land values between the two transactions. If McCain had any influence on the government's valuation of the land in the sale to Diamond, he is in deep shit.

If not, it's still an example of massive government fraud/waste to which McCain's name is attached.

I'm going to email my rep., Henry Waxman, on this one.

  • Aw

Where's Heffalmup's letter arguing that it doesn't matter how corrupt McCain is because Americans love corrupt, old, white bastards? I was looking forward to that bit of unintentional comedy!

He's probably off crying in his beer now that he's admitted McCain is too old to be President.

  • The media and McCain

Just a reminder, folks. This story actually comes from the New York Times. That's media, with a capital M. The story is being reported. We in the media can't make people pay attention, but the information is right there for anyone to see. It's not being covered up.

  • Generally speaking...

Conservatives rail against what they themselves do so I had just assumed McCain was an influence peddler.

  • My Letter to Rep. Waxman

    "Dear Rep. Waxman,

I am a constituent and long-time admirer of what you've done for this country. I would like to direct your attention to an article appearing in the NY Times regarding possible influence peddling in the sale of goverment land near Ft. Ord to an AZ businessman named Donald Diamond.

    Link: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/22/us/politics/22diamond.html?_r=2&hp=&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print

Mr. Diamond has extensive ties to John McCain, who may or may not have used his influence to facilitate the land sale. Regardless, the sales price to Mr. Diamond of $250,000 (which was sold two years later for $20,000,000) is unconscionable.

Irrespective of Mr. McCain's possible influence, the process used by the government in this transaction needs to be identified and ELIMINATED.

I hope that you can act on this matter (or forward it to someone who can)."

  • I saw his photo in the NY Slimes

    Another old, white guy!

  • It's Probably Worse

Fort Ord was located in one of the most beautiful and potentially expensive locations on the California coast: right spang in the middle of Monterey county, abutting Monterey itself. It doesn't require rocket science to know that land in that area would increase in value rapidly.

And one should not underestimate the value of the water deal; much of the land in that area is reclaimed from sand dunes. How expensive is it to irrigate? Probably very.

It probably gets worse, I'm guessing. Most former military bases have some pretty nasty environmental garbage that needs to be cleaned up. Did Diamond get a deal on that as well? A chunk of Fort Ord now hosts a campus for the California State University system; what happened between Diamond and the state of California on that little deal? Did the taxpayers of California get soaked so that this Diamond guy could pocket a bigger profit?

One also can't help but wonder how an Arizona developer got wind of the deal and got help from an Arizona Senator. It's not like California doesn't have a few developers native to the state, you know.

I don't know the answers, but as a former resident of that area, I know how valuable land around there is. There's more here than meets the eye, I'm guessing.
