  • Independents and Former Republicans

It's great to see the data that we already know and have seen before. ;p

Couldn't the people doing the polling also ask: Are you a former independent or Republican?

  • Why does Obama win over more better educated voters than Clinton?

I've seen this poll after poll: that Clinton does well with those without a university education while Obama pulls in more of them. Ummmm....

  • @furtail

I've wondered the exact same thing.

The obvious conclusion is that Obama's voters are "smarter," but that idea pretty much just serves to flatter myself. Going a little bit deeper than that, I think that all levels of higher education open the world and expose students to different types of people, new ideas, etc. Students have to learn to communicate and interact with people unlike themselves, and as a result, must put aside some fears or misconceptions or intolerances in order to get along. Educated people are more familiar with the "unfamiliar," and therefore are more ready to believe that someone unlike them (in terms of background, skin color, geography, etc.) may still share their values or be a "good person" or operate in some capacity outside of their own preconceptions of their abilities.

Clinton is familiar; Obama is unfamiliar, hence uneducated people like Clinton, educated people like Obama.

This is just my theory and a broad generalization based on no research on my part, so don't get mad at me.

    Discuss.

No, I'm not mad. I thought along similar lines.

For the record, I'm an Obama fan. I'll vote for Clinton if she wins the nomination. The reason I didn't vote for her here in Ohio is because she is too conservative. And, I'm really pissed that she can't come out and say "I made a mistake voting for authorization for Bush to go to Iraq." I mean, my god, this Iraq War vote is huge for me. I can barely stomach voting for her Royal Majesty because of this. McCain, Clinton, Obama, now which one was against the war, right from the start, like I was?
